2019 Honda CR-V Pricing and Features

8.0/10

The Honda CR-V offers a lot of space, has great driving dynamics, and has decent performance as well. There are a lot of cars in this segment though, and some of those might catch your fancy too. So, let's take a deeper look into what makes this car better. Sans the 'Touring' trim, Honda CR-V costs less than 30 Grand. The base variant of the Honda CR-V is surprisingly cheap, under $25,000, at which point it could become an alternative to the best subcompact cars. The following table illustrates all the trims and features offered with the 2019 Honda CR-V.

We Recommend

Get the EX trim; it gets all the great safety features like Blind spot monitoring, Forward collision warning, Auto high beam headlamps, etc. Skipping the base LX trim is the right thing you can do. The EX trim gets plenty of features along with a powerful engine. In case you are eager to add some extra goodies to your car such as leather upholstery, you may slip to the EX-L trim. You may also save a lot of money if you try buying a used Honda CR-V that comes under a budget price.

2019 Honda CR-V Engine and Performance

8.8/10

The 2019 model year uses the same powertrains as the predecessor 2018 Honda CR-V. It gets two engine choices, a sprightly 1.5 liter inline-4 turbo, and the base 2.4-liter naturally aspirated inline-4  The base engine, which is only available in the base model, pushes out a maximum of 184 horses. The smaller turbocharged engine on other trims churns a little more, 190 Horsepower.

2019 Honda CR-V Engine Bay

While the difference in power output doesn't seem much, the turbo engine is an absolute joy to drive. Power comes in strong but linear and is in no way hampered due to its tiny capacity. You could have both engines with either an FWD or AWD system. CVT comes standard with sports mode in all trims, which although rear for a CVT, isn't as engaging as a manual could have been. It is much easier for everyday use though.

As for the competition, all the cars here come at the same entry price, and make nearly identical power figures, save for a few horses. The torque figures are a bit more diverse, but nothing that deserves special attention.

2019 Honda CR-V Acceleration

Performance has never been a strong point for SUVs, or for budget cars, and CR-V is both! 0 to 60 time comes in a generous 7.7 seconds, just enough to not be called lazy at full clip. The quarter-mile is managed in a similarly cool and clam fashion, in exactly 16 seconds.

The CR-V takes the cake here, though not by much. The Honda takes less than 8 seconds compared to other leading crossovers in the class. The Hyundai Santa Fe, interestingly, ends up being the slowest among the competition.

2019 Honda CR-V Ride and Handling

The Honda CR-V has been manufactured with a highly tensile chassis that has helped it handle its success throughout its journey. The CR-V sits on a high ground clearance that makes its versatile compact SUV in its class. It uses dampers for low friction situations making it easy to handle. The AWD and FWD setup get tubular front stabilizers along with solid rear profiles. The steering is way too direct with the help of a dual-pinion variable-ratio Electric power steering.

The CR-V is an absolutely fun to drive machine that offers high ground clearance and a light suspension setup. The Honda CR-V has been typically made for city streets that add a next-level experience to its portfolio

2019 Honda CR-V Braking

Braking is quite effective in the 2019 Honda CR-V, with disc brakes on all wheels. The front pair consists of 11.1-inch discs, and the rear, 10.2 inches. The curb weight isn't light, and you can feel the weight under panic braking situations. Under all other circumstances, the weight is well masked.

With a stopping distance of 115 feet, the Honda CR-V puts its leg right among the rivals like Hyundai Santa Fe and Mazda CX-5. The Volkswagen Tiguan, however, comes fitted with the largest front brakes, while the Mazda CX-5 has the fattest rear brakes to offer.

2019 Honda CR-V Fuel Economy

9.0/10

Honda's compact SUV is quite an economical choice, as all Hondas are. With the 2019 Honda CR-V, a city drive would reach about 26 miles if you're careful, and on a smooth freeway, you could easily push that figure up to 32 MPG. The CR-V averages to a combined efficiency figure of 28 MPG, which is quite impressive. Additionally, the Honda comes fitted with a fairly sized 14.0-gallon fuel tank, which offers enough fuel capacity to take you up to 448 miles on the highway without refueling.

This entire segment consists of very frugal cars, which manage to squeeze anywhere between 25 to 29 MPG for city and highway combined driving. On paper, Nissan Rogue has been rated the highest in class, at 26 and 33 MPG in the city and highway respectively. The Hyundai Santa Fe has the largest fuel tank to offer, with its 18.8-gallon fuel tank allowing a highway range of up to a staggering 545 miles.

2019 Honda CR-V Interior

9.4/10

The 2019 CR-V is a typical Honda, in the sense that the interiors aren't too fancy, but extremely spacious. It is probably the roomiest car in the segment, primarily because it doesn't try to fit in more than it can handle. There is ample space for 5 people, and the CR-V doesn't claim to seat anymore. All the sets are great for comfortably seating adults, and one could even argue that the Honda is the most comfortable car in the class. There's a good amount of high-quality materials in the cabin, with the dashboard featuring a fair bit of leather. The steering wheel feels very solid too, inspiring a good deal of confidence in the driver. Unlike lesser CR-Vs, the fancier trims offer you heated seats with power adjustment. Couple that with incredible sound isolation and supple ride quality, you get an incredible touring machine on a budget.

Mitsubishi Outlander and Kia Sorento 7 seaters SUVs, and they make quite a fine companion for long rides as well. The last row is cramped, as is the case usually, but the first and second rows are quite spacious. Hyundai offers the best in class space, with tremendous headroom and legroom.

Does it come loaded with tech inside?

For the 2019 Honda CR-V, a 7-inch touchscreen comes standard on the infotainment. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are on offer with the CR-V's infotainment system. The Japanese SUV also comes with a compelling 9-speaker sound system, which also features a powerful sub-woofer. Talk about crystal clear music. Honda offers the CR-V with Bluetooth Audio Streaming to further complement the impressive speakers. Further, there's USB and Aux support for an added degree of flexibility. The CR-V also comes with SiriusXM Radio, which perfectly bundles up the SUV's incredible infotainment package. Heck, we can't complain.

Other standard features include:

  • Apple CarPlay
  • Android Audio
  • Satellite radio
  • Rearview camera
  • USB Audio interface and charging ports for front row
  • USB charging ports for second-row
  • Bluetooth HandsFreeLink

2019 Honda CR-V Cargo Capacity

Cargo Volume is an important criterion while buying an SUV. Their large dimensions on the outside lend themselves to open spaces inside. The Honda CR-V holds nearly 40 cubic feet in the trunk, or the equivalent of 4 large, stuffed travel bags. If that falls short of your needs, then simply lower the seats to reveal nearly double the amount of space in total.

The 7 seaters sacrifice trunk volume in favor of one more row of seats. The trunk space is smaller than what you'd find in a small hatchback. Fold the last row though, and you get a useful storage space. Even the Hyundai Santa Fe offers a close enough cargo volume in comparison to the CR-V.

8.6/10

As stated earlier, the 2019 Honda CR-V is a compact crossover SUV. You would have probably guessed by now that it isn't a big car. If you want to visualize, the CR-V isn't even bigger than the Civic, except for the height. You could muscle the car into tight spaces like a sedan and easily see your way around due to the raised seats. As far as styling is concerned, we're majorly satisfied. The design is very striking and bold, and the CR-V does command a great sense of road presence. While the rear comes with a rather awkward styling, the front is very Honda-esque, and the side profile makes the car look much larger than it actually is. Overall, the 2019 Honda CR-V is a handsome vehicle, with eye-catching styling you can't miss on the road.

Comparing the competition, the Honda CR-V actually comes as one of the lighter cars in the lot, with the Chevrolet Equinox being the lightest among the competition. The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe measures the longest in size, while also boasting the greatest width. All cars are nearly identical in terms of height, with the Volkswagen Tiguan measuring the tallest in the lot. The Tiguan S also offers the most ground clearance, measuring 7.9 inches off the ground. Unsurprisingly enough, the Honda CR-V comes with the shortest wheelbase of 104.7 inches, while the likes of the Volkswagen Tiguan offer the longest wheelbase.

2019 Honda CR-V Safety

9.9/10

The 2019 Honda CR-V is an incredibly safe vehicle and stands as one of the safest vehicles in this segment. In fact, the Honda CR-V was the IIHS' "2019 Top Safety Pick". The IIHS has awarded the 2019 CR-V with "Good" ratings under nearly all categories of assessment. The Honda CR-V also received "Superior" ratings under Crash Avoidance and Mitigation. Additionally, the NHTSA has awarded the 2019 Honda CR-V a solid 5-star rating, which speaks volumes about the SUV's occupant protection merit. The CR-V also comes with a stiff steel monocoque chassis and several electronic aids, which help in making the SUV an extremely safe place to be in. Numerous advanced safety features are standard on the Honda CR V, including the following:

  • Six airbags
  • 4-wheel Antilock Braking system
  • automatic high beams
  • blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert
  • lane-keeping assist
  • adaptive cruise control
  • forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking
  • Vehicle Stability Assist
  • Tire pressure monitoring system
  • Hill Start Assist
  • Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children

2019 Honda CR-V Competition

9.1/10

Honda CR-V vs Nissan Rogue

Nissan Rogue is perhaps the most popular crossover in the US, and if there is a car that can lock horns together with the Honda CR-V, it's this SUV by Nissan. Both these cars lead the sales charts for the segment and are a bang for the buck. You couldn't go wrong with either of these SUVs. The Honda pulls ahead in terms of passenger space, though not by much.

2019 Nissan Rogue Three Quarter Front View

Honda CR-V vs Chevrolet Equinox

To combat the Japanese contenders, homegrown car maker Chevy has brought out the relatively big guns. Equinox isn't as spacious or as comfy. Honda also offers better drivability and handling. Overall, the Equinox is quite a few steps behind the CR-V.

2019 Chevrolet Equinox Front Three Quarter View

Honda CR-V vs Mazda CX-5

If practicality and space aren't too high on your priority list, then you can consider the Mazda CX-5 as well. It is a much more exciting car, with better performance and handling. Its steering is extremely precise and feedback-rich, and ride comfort isn't compromised either. It also has a sleeker look. Still, for space and practicality, you'll be better off with the Honda.

2019 Mazda CX-5 Three Quarter Front View

2019 Honda CR-V Final Verdict

You can always count on the Japanese to build solid, reliable cars for an affordable price. The 2019 Honda CR-V is a great car, arguably the best in the segment. If you don't have your heart set on some other car, you should definitely go for this one. With good space and usable performance, it will keep the driver and the passengers happy. The CR-V comes with great performance too, owing to a punchy engine and engaging driving dynamics. We love the fact that the interior is as roomy as it is comfortable, and while it isn't exactly opulent, the cabin promises a good degree of practicality. All in all, there's very little to complain about Honda's comfy little SUV. We feel that the 2019 Honda CR-V certainly stands above its competition, and we highly recommend considering one for your next purchase.

Honda CR-V

Pros - Competitive pricing, quiet and efficient, heated seats

Cons - CVT transmission, carpet floor mats, styling of the front

Does what is designed for This is my first Honda and first SUV and was purchased to haul my two teenage sons, a golden retriever, and myself on a daily basis. I expect the vehicles I purchase to fulfill their intended purpose very well - my 2019 EX (FWD) CR-V does just that. Great interior design, roomy, plenty of acceleration when needed, easy access, great visibility -- I like the little light that lights up the center console:-). The sound system is good but I wish it had a CD player They were very reasonable with their prices. They understand that we had a budget

The only car you need.

Pros - Excellent headlmaps, umarket cabin, comfortable seats on both rows

Cons - Clumsy rear end design, initial engine lag, no wireless phone connectivity features

High grade Honda. The LED array healmps does give the car premium appeals and also works great at night. The cabin actually feels very premium and the car come with most of the kit as standard fitment. Everything falls into hand pretty easily especially the shifter. The metal inserts does give the cabin a sporty feel. The leather on the seats and steering feel very nice in usage, accompanied with the heating function. The high driving position gives excellent forward visibility too. The moonroof does feel like a novelty and is too small in size. Space and comfort is not a constarint in this car and both rows offer them in amples. Deneen made thw whole transaction very quick and smooth. She is friendly, knowledgeable and was a pleasure to work with!
