The 2020 Honda Civic SI is part of the 10th Civic generation introduced back in 2016. Only, all these years later it has managed to come a long way. For 2020, Honda decided to style this SI a lot more aggressively, much like to match the menacing appearance of the more powerful Type-R.

On the front, under the hood, things haven’t changed much. It is the same 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-four engine that we have been familiar with for so long. However, Honda says that for 2020 they shortened the final drive ratio. As a result, the same 205 hp engine helps the new Civic SI accelerate relatively more eagerly.

Other changes include a redesigned infotainment system with a red trim. So the new Civic SI Coupe is now a better overall package with much-needed updates. The most interesting part is the fact that despite all the changes, the new Civic is now only $700 dearer. At a price tag of $25,900, the 2020 Civic SI is here to teach the likes of the Mazda3 and Subaru WRX couple of lessons about the civilization of cars.

2020 Honda Civic Si Features

7.0/10

The 2020 Honda Civic SI Coupe gives you the choice to choose from two different trims. One Base and the other Base w/Summer Tires. Although, there’s hardly anything different between the two trims.

The only noticeable dissimilarity between the two trim that remains is the availability of summer tires which are as an option on the Base variant. While the other get them as standard. Other than that all features are identical on both variants. Even the price for both trims remains the same.

Also standard on both variants is a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four engine that churns out 205 hp and 192 lb.-ft. torque. All that power is first sent to a six-speed manual transmission which then transfers it to the front wheels. Both the front-wheel drivetrain and the manual transmission are stand-alone options on the two trims of the 2020 Honda Civic SI Coupe.

We recommend:

Any variant of the Civic SI Coupe is as good as the other. They even cost the same and are equally well-equipped. The only difference being the summer tires which remain an option on the Base. Other than that, either one makes an equally strong case. So you need not worry about missing out on certain features by choosing anyone over the other.

2020 Honda Civic Si Engine and Performance

6.0/10

Standard on the 2020 Honda Civic SI Coupe is a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four engine that makes 205 hp and 192 lb.-ft. torque which is same as last year’s Civic SI. What has been updated though, according to Honda, is the final drive ratio which is now six per cent shorter.

Consequently, this 2020 Civic SI it is a good 0.7 seconds quicker than the previous year’s model while accelerating to 60 miles per hour. Also standard on the 2020 Civic SI is its six-speed manual transmission.

2020 Honda Civic SI Coupe generates 205 Horsepower

That manual transmission works the front two wheels of the new Civic SI. There are no options of all-wheel or four-wheel drives. The 1.5-liter engine, six-speed manual gearbox and front-wheel drivetrain are the 2020 Honda Civic SI's only characteristics.

How fast is the Honda Civic SI Coupe?

All Civics are known to be nice and fun-to-drive cars that are equally good for a day on the racetrack or a night around the city. The 2020 Honda Civic Coupe SI is no different. In fact, this year’s Civic SI is even faster than last year.

Owing to its shorter final drive ratio, the 2020 Civic Coupe SI manages to reach 60 miles per hour in 6.3 seconds when taking off from the starting line. The 2019 Honda Civic SI coupe clocked a 0-60mph timing of 7.0 seconds.

2020 Honda Civic SI Coupe hits 0-60 in 6 sec

This Civic SI coupe is not just faster than its own predecessor. It is also much faster than all other cars in this comparison even though some of them sport bigger engines than the Civic’s.

What about the braking performance of the Honda Civic SI Coupe?

For a car that aims to excel at performance, it has to do a lot more than just outrun others as those lights go green. It should also be able to brake equally well in situations that ask for it. The 2020 Honda Civic SI Coupe’s Sensing Suite equips the car with autonomous emergency braking to assist the driver.

2020 Honda Civic SI Coupe has a Front brake of 12.3 in.

Speaking of brakes in general, there's a decent amount of progression as you put your feet down on the paddle. The Brembo brake calipers help the car stop within 109 feet under emergency braking.

What about its driving dynamics?

There are enough reasons to go for the 2020 Honda Civic SI Coupe. However, even if the reasons weren’t so many, the way this Honda drives should be reason enough to get yourself one.

The Civic SI carries forward the same idea as the regular Civic. Only it builds on that idea with stiffer suspension setup, standard two-mode adaptive dampers and reworked steering wheel. So it’s a given that this Coupe would be a total joy around winding roads. The standard all-weather tyres provide ample traction. Though they can be replaced with optional summer tyres for that extra edge in performance.

2020 Honda Civic SI Coupe hasstandard two-mode adaptive dampers

Still, the minor upgrades to improve performance doesn’t mean that this Honda will be punishing the driver or other occupants on the streets. It benefits greatly from it’s light weight, and the two-mode adjustable dampers make this Civic feel quite plush even when the ride gets bumpy.

2020 Honda Civic Si Fuel Economy

6.0/10

The bump in acceleration because of the shorter final drive ratio does have its consequences. The slight fall in fuel efficiency being the most noteworthy of all. The 2020 Honda Civic SI Coupe now returns a mileage of 26 miles per gallon in the city, 36 miles per gallon on the highway and 30 miles per gallon combined.

Even after this slight fall in fuel economy, the 2020 Civic SI manages to be more efficient than all other cars in the face-off thanks to its smaller capacity engine.

2020 Honda Civic Si Interior

8.5/10

Despite this Civic SI’s coupe like design, the interior has been sensibly designed to maximize space. However, the sloping roofline does compromise headroom for passengers in the front as well as at the back.

The front row sports seat have no substitute. That could be a concern for some if not all. Not that they aren’t comfortable, just that they are a bit constricting. Those seats serve the purpose of preventing the driver from sliding around during spirited cornering sessions. On the other hand, the second row seats are quite accommodating.

2020 Honda Civic SI Coupe Front Seats

The overall legroom in the front row and the back, is much better than most other coupes in this segment. In fact, the lack of headroom is more than made up for by the availability of legroom in the 2020 Civic SI Coupe.

The instrument cluster has also been redesigned for the year 2020. It still adorns the same 7.0-inch touchscreen, but now features a red trim. The front sport seats also get red accents to match its new design. However, the most noticeable change remains the use of an actual volume knob instead of the virtual scroll-bar.

Creature comforts on offer in the Honda Civic Coupe SI

The 2020 Honda Civic SI, like all other Civics we’ve come to know and appreciate, also aims to be as user-friendly as possible. Some most relevant convenience features include:

2020 Honda Civic Si Coupe Infotainment Screen
  • Knob and hard keys for primary controls
  • Illuminated steering wheel-mounted audio controls

  • Front and rear cupholders
  • Cruise control w/Steering wheels controls
  • Dual-zone front automatic air conditioning
  • Front map lights
  • Fade-to-off interior lighting
  • Cargo space lights

Does it come loaded with tech inside?

The 2020 Honda Civic SI Coupe makes no compromises when it comes to technology. The list of technological features include:

  • 7.0-inch touchscreen
  • Apple CarPlay
  • Android Auto
  • Two USB ports (1.0-amp/1.5-amp)
  • Bluetooth
  • 10 premium speakers with subwoofer

What about utility?

The 2020 Honda Civic SI Coupe does as much as possible to compromise as little as it can. It offers grand handling and performance, great interior features and decent fuel economy. But it can only do so much.

2020 Honda Civic Si Coupe Cargo Area

The small boot is this Civic’s Achilles heel. At under 12 cubic feet of trunk space, this Honda coupe seems just that much less practical. The designers probably forgot the fact that with several passengers come a lot of luggage. So it does lose a few points in this aspect.

2020 Honda Civic Si Exterior

7.0/10

For the year 2020, Honda decided to up the ante of the Civic SI lineup by significantly redesigning the exterior of this car. For starters, the grille has been reworked to make the SI look more like the infamous Type-R.

Also a first on the SI models are LED headlights with longer and wider beams, similar to the ones on the higher segment Civic Touring models. Not only do they enhance visibility during the night, but also help bring out the aggressive side of the Civic SI.

2020 Honda Civic Si Coupe 3 Quarter View

Moving on to the sides, the new Honda Civic SI now features blacked-out 18-inch wheels that come standard with all-season tires. The side profile has a rather sedated appearance with smoothly flowing lines from the front bumper to the rear.

The rear end of the 2020 Honda Civic SI Coupe has also been tweaked to complete the overall performance-oriented appearance of this CiviC SI. In fact, the absence of the rear spoiler is the only distinguishing factor between it and the more powerful Civic type-R.

What are those eye-catching features?

The exterior features that make this Civic SI look not-so-hot yet not-too-cool are:

  • Matte black 18-inch machine-finished alloy wheels
  • Clearcoat paint
  • Body-colored front/rear bumper
  • Black side window trim
  • Body-colored door handles
  • Body-colored power heated side mirrors
  • Light tinted glass
  • Fully galvanized steel panels
  • Wing spoiler
  • Black grille
  • Front fog lamps
  • Fully automatic projector beam halogen daytime running headlamps

2020 Honda Civic Si Competition

Honda Civic SI Coupe vs. Mazda 3

The 2020 Honda Civic SI Coupe completely dominates this Mazda. The only advantage, so to say, that the Mazda3 has over the Civic SI is its 2.5-liter engine. However, the Civic SI even with its smaller 1.5-liter engine manages to make more power, offers better acceleration and even better fuel economy. Also, Honda is just marginally more expensive than the Mazda.

2020 Mazda 3

Honda Civic SI Coupe vs. Subaru WRX

The Subaru WRX’s 268 hp 2.0-liter engine appears to be bigger than that of the Honda on paper, and it is so in real-world scenarios too. But the downside to all that power is its fuel economy. The Civic SI is a lot more economical than the WRX, and in terms of performance, the Civic SI is only marginally behind.

2020 Honda Civic Si Final Verdict

Not a lot of coupes these days cost quite as less as the 2020 Honda Civic SI Coupe and still provide the kind of features and performance it does. Some of them are either too expensive or not as fuel efficient. Rest are simply not as practical. The Civic SI on the other hand, has a roomy interior which feels quite upscale. The ride quality is track focused, but proves to be equally engaging for drives around the city or on highways. And with a combined fuel economy of 30 miles per gallon, this Civic is not a resource guzzler. In fact, it provides great value for money.
