Overall Rating

The Honda Civic is procurable in 3 body types- Sedan, Hatch, and Coupe, with all of them being high on looks, intoxicated by power, and merry on functionality. This Honda offering continues to set the benchmark for daily-driven sedans and defy the belief that family-ferries are just not meant for performance.

The Honda Civic gets two powerhouse options, the stock 2.0L I-4 which can churn out 158 hp, and the 1.5L turbocharged variant which is built to amplify your every ride, with 174 horses, waiting to get unleashed at the slightest of the throttle tap. All variants employ a CVT setup for transmission duties, however, the Sport trim offers you a 6-speed manual transmission as well.

The 2020 Honda Civic comes in a total of 5 iterations, namely - LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, and Touring. The LX is the base trim and starts at a price of $20,550, which can go up to $27,600 for the Touring trim. The LX and Sport models are offered in 2.0 L I4 engine configuration, which changes to 1.5 L turbocharged engine from the EX trim and upwards. Sport is the only trim that offers you a 6-speed manual transmission, else all other trims are mated to a CVT transmission.

Trim to choose

The stock 2.0L I4 engine is a decent performer with 158 ponies, but it’s not just going to send chills down your spine. We’d recommend you to go for the EX trim, since it offers the mighty 1.5L turbocharged engine that can generate a punchy amount of ponies, along with several other convenience and entertainment features.

2020 Honda Civic Sedan Engine

The 2020 Honda Civic gets two powerhouse options to go for. One is the 2.0L inline-four which can generate a handy 158 hp along with 138 lb.-ft. Of torque. Escalate to the EX trim and the configuration changes to a 1.5L turbocharged engine, which is capable of fabricating a punchy 174 hp.

Both the engine configuration of the Honda Civic are fun to pilot, striking a paragon balance between effectiveness and efficiency. However, the turbocharged engine provides a more blazing performance as compared to the stock engine, pulling the Civic from one traffic signal to another with utmost adroitness and ascendancy

2020 Honda Civic Sedan Engine

The Honda Civic’s engine is further mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that changes effortlessly through a continuous range of effective gear ratios. All the trims receive CVT as standard, however, the Sport trim has a 6-speed manual on offer as well, to satisfy the shifter savant in you.

The Honda Civic may not seem like a macho contender of this power comparison, with its 158 Ponies. The Mazda 3 carries the day here with the best-in-class power figures of 186 hp, followed up by the Toyota Corolla with 162 ponies. The Honda Civic rakes in the third position with 158 horsepower, and finally the Hyundai Elantra that seals the comparison with 147 horses.

How fast is the 2020 Honda Civic Sedan?

Honda Civic may seem like an overrated set of wheels through the upper comparison, but hold on and watch how this ride makes other rivals feel under the weather when it comes to the sprinting fixture.

2020 Honda Civic Sedan #rd Quarter View

The “Honda Civic hesitation during acceleration” is a thing you won’t find on the internet because of the ride’s unmatched athleticism. Push the throttle and feel that turbocharger sputter as you make way through a traffic lane.

The Honda Civic’s 0-60 time comes at 8.2 seconds, which happens to be a respectable figure for a non-performance bread and butter car. The Mazda 3 comes out as the clear winner of this comparison, utilizing its 186 ponies to the fullest. The Corolla Sedan that is also a few steps ahead of the Honda Civic in terms of power figures, does not really stand firm on this notion, with a 0-60 time same as the Civic. The Elantra makes a close chase with 8.3 seconds under its belt.

What about the braking performance of the 2020 Honda Civic Sedan?

Spectacular Brembo’s are quite well on surprise stops at red lights and city driving. The pedal is heavy and quite easy to modulate. The RDM system1 is designed to apply the brakes if it detects your vehicle may leave the tarmac.

2020 Honda Civic Sedan Brakes

The average stopping distance is good if compared to the other rivals. The braking arrangement feels just right-on-point for a car of this dimension. The ride felt quite capable under panic braking tests and inspired confidence.

What about its driving dynamics?

The Honda Civic has many feathers in its cap, and sheer driving pleasure is definitely one of those. It’s eager and efficacious engine waits for you to pin the pedal and unleash those 158 ponies (174 in case of the turbocharged engine).

Once you are off the mark, the precise steering and handling do the job for you, making the Civic amusing to throw around turns and corners. The ride’s rev-happy engine and fine level suspension tuning lends it neither cushy nor croaking ride quality.

2020 Honda Civic Sedan

Every Honda Civic ride is bound to be smooth and effortless, owing to its hyper-active steering and thoughtful drive dynamics. The Civic Sedan stays planted at the harshest of curves, and it’s fine suspension sallows the hardest of bumps and brakes out there.

2020 Honda Civic Sedan Fuel Economy

Fuel efficiency is definitely the forte of the Honda Civic. Offering the best in class fuel economy figures, the Civic’s turbocharged engine gives out a combined MPG figure of 36 (32 city, 42 highway), which is a pretty decorous score, considering its performance and power figures.

With mind-blowing mpg figures, the Honda Civic is your pocket’s true companion. The ride simply triumphs in this league, providing the best-in-class fuel efficiency. However, one downside to the Honda Civic comes in the form of its fuel tank capacity. The Civic Sedan can house 12.4 gallons of gasoline, which just happens to be the lowest in the segment. However, the ride ensures that this capacity does not come in your way of conquering miles, accrediting to its solid fuel efficiency.

The car is loaded with enough good stuff to lure most of the small car shoppers, and all that stuff is hitched inside a roomy and spacious cabin that offers ample space for 4 people to be at ease through long sitting hours.

Does it come loaded with tech inside?

The Honda Civic is a name carrying a legacy of several decades, but yet with the cutting-edge tech on-board, the ride feels young at heart. The ride employs a 7-inch touchscreen to fulfill its infotainment duties. This screen is backed by a range of analog shortcut buttons, that enhance the ease of using this panel. The graphics are not that intriguing, but we’ll rather call them plain and effective, with high visibility under direct sunlight.

The awesomeness does not stop on the insides of the Honda Civic. With a dipping roofline, eye-catching grille, slender side profile, and a curvy rear-end, the 10 gen Honda Civic goes all out, making a lasting impression.

2020 Honda Civic Sedan Side View

The “hail-fellow-well-mate” sort of looks are often considered an ax to interior ergonomics, however, that’s just not the case with the Honda Civic Sedan. The sloping roofline though does a chop-chop on the headroom, making it a bit difficult for tall-adults to get inside the car, but other than that the Civic Sedan offers the best-in-class interior space as well.

2020 Honda Civic Sedan Competition

Honda Civic vs. Toyota Corolla

The Toyota Corolla is a solid car from the same homeland as the Honda Civic. The Corolla, when compared to the Civic takes a harsh beating. Be it performance, fuel efficiency, or utility, the Civic blows of the Corolla in every aspect. When you go for the Honda Civic you get a much better interior, dynamic body design, and hotter on-board tech. The utility aspect of the Honda Civic is the final blow to Corolla with greater fuel efficiency and better cargo capacity.

2020 Toyota Corolla Sedan

Honda Civic vs. Mazda 3

Sharp looks, plush interior, and edgy driving dynamics. These are the terms that perfectly describe the Mazda 3. Again sharing its homeland lineage with the Honda Civic the Mazda 3 is a strong contender of this segment. It’s inline-4 can generate much more power than that of the Civic, providing it with better acceleration proficiencies.

2020 Mazda 3 Sedan

2020 Honda Civic Sedan Final Verdict

The 2020 Honda Civic Sedan is undoubtedly a great set of wheels, that idealizes the sync between performance, economy, and comfort. The base 2.0L I-4 engine is happy to rev, but go for the 1.5L turbocharged engine, and see the fun of driving elevate to an altogether different level. The Honda Civic is an appealing package with multiple variants and lots of tech and features, capped with ultimate utilitarian capabilities.

Starting from a base price of $20,550, the Civic Sedan ensures that pricing never comes in its way of hunting down the rivals.
