Be it looks, fuel efficiency, or even performance, the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 seems to have got a hold on all of it. The GMC offers exclusive options with its upgraded Sierra 1500. With identical underpinnings to the Chevy Silverado 1500, the GMC Sierra 1500 gets the same engine under its hood, including a V6, a turbocharged four-cylinder, and V8s. The truck certainly appears to be destined to stay at its spot and sell in decent numbers throughout the USA.

Based on the popular Chevrolet Silverado 1500, the GMC Sierra 1500 shares most of its components from the Chevy. The most identical stuff include engine, interior, frame and features. For 2019, the Fourth-gen model of the GMC Sierra receives a major facelift with added features and redesigned exteriors to keep it fresh. Competing against the likes of Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Double Cab and Ford F-150 Supercab, the GMC Sierra 1500 sounds like a promising proposition.

We Recommend

We recommend picking up the SLE trim since it adds a host of creature comforts that are bound to make life easy for the occupants. Features like cruise control and multifunctional steering are some of the basic things that are expected from a vehicle of the 21st century. Moreover, it is certainly worth the extra money you'd for it.

2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Double Cab Engine and Performance

9.0/10

The engine duties on the GMC Sierra 1500 is handled by a 4.3L 6 cylinder motor mated to a 6-speed auto gearbox. The base engine is good for producing 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque. The figures are modest, to say the least, but they sure do make the truck feel lethargic on open roads.

In comparison with rivals, the GMC Sierra 1500 sits at par with the Chevy Silverado to take the top spot when it comes to both engine capacity and performance.

Acceleration

The GMC Sierra 1500 can reach 60 mph from a standstill in a modest 5.3 seconds and goes to complete the quarter-mile in 13.6 seconds the acceleration is balmy and controlled. The truck takes time to gather momentum but never feels like it's pushing too hard.

In comparison, the GMC Sierra 1500 and Chevy Silverado 1500 both claim the top spot again with identical quarter mile and 0-60 mph timings.

Ride and Handling

The GMC Sierra 1500 is a big vehicle and it behaves like one too. The truck is at its best when cruising on a highway at a moderate speed, something it does like the back of its hand. It is not made with cornering at crazy speeds in the mind which is the reason why it shouldn't be done in the first place.

The truck does behave erratically over uneven surfaces and the issue is worsened when low profile tires are installed.

Braking

The GMC Sierra 1500 features a set of 13.0-inch brake rotors in the front and a set of 13/6 inch rotors in the rear. Even with its substantial curb weight, the truck can stop from 60 mph to a standstill in an impressive 134 feet.

The lighter Ford F150 takes away the cake here with 119 feet while both the Silverado and the Sierra settle for the second spot with similar specs.

Towing Capacity

Trucks are used to haul loads and the towing capacity is absolutely paramount while one goes looking out for a truck to buy. The GMC Sierra 1500 can tow a load of up to 8900 lbs hooked to its back.

The Ford F150 fares only marginally better at 9100 lbs but it still takes the 1st position amongst its rivals.

9.9/10

GMC Sierra 1500 with a Double Cab can accommodate 5 adults comfortably. The legroom and headroom on the truck is something that will make even the taller guys happy. Overall, it is arguably the most spacious truck amongst its rivals.

Both the GMC Sierra 1500 and Chevy Silverado 1500 are the most spacious trucks in the segment.

Infotainment

The base trim on the GMC Sierra 1500 comes loaded with a 3.2-inch monochromatic display while the top-end trim comes with a 5.2-inch color display. The MMI is simple and neat and displays all the required information directly with the click of a button. The overall interface is laggy and does take a while to register user inputs.

2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Double Cab Safety

9.9/10

The GMC Sierra 1500 has not been crash-tested by any major crash-testing agencies yet. The set of standard safety features include dual-stage frontal airbags, lane assist, and forward collision alert, and tire pressure monitoring system amongst others. There is definitely a lack of active safety features on the Sierra 1500.

  • AIRBAGS Dual-stage frontal for driver and front passenger with Passenger Sensing System
  • LED DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS
  • LANE KEEP ASSIST AND FORWARD COLLISION ALERT Included and only available with Enhanced Driver Alert Package. On SLE, requires DoubleCab mode
  • TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM Does not monitor spare tire

2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Double Cab Competition

7.4/10

Chevy Silverado 1500

The Chevy Silverado 1500 is a cousin of the Sierra 1500 truck. They share the same powertrain, chassis, and even design elements to an extent. The Silverado, on one hand, features a lot of cosmetic look good exterior components while the GMC Sierra takes a more rugged approach.

Hence, this one is totally up to the preference of the customer since they are virtually the same trucks.

Ford F-150

The Ford F-150 just like the GMC Sierra 1500 takes a very hands-on approach to work. It is fine as a work truck but that's all it is. The exterior is boring while the interior is borderline tacky.

The GMC Sierra 1500 features a much more comfortable interior which makes it a better truck in our honest opinion.

2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Double Cab Final Verdict

8.2/10

The GMC Sierra is a potent truck without a doubt. The interior is on point while the exterior does leave a lot to be desired but it does what advertises to do and that is work in the field and haul heavy loads without a hiccup. If you're in the market for a work truck, you can't go wrong with the GMC Sierra 1500.

Size matters.

Pros - Potent engine, large loading bed, excellent towing capacity

Cons - Gas guzzling V8,low cabin qulaity, costly options.

Stylish and loaded but lacks the refinement. This Truck has reached every expectation I have ever wanted. The Style, the Price, the color, it really is one high tech vehicle. It’s definitely a must see. I purchased the 1500 GMC Sierra crew cab and love it. I am fond of people here. The atmosphere is energetic and folks are friendly. There was some delay in loan procedure and the team internally solved it concerning the bank folks. So I am extremely happy with them.

Powerful, and Comfortable!!

Pros - Fun to drive, comfortable interior, technology

Cons - Materials used in the interior, sound system

Sierra is the most refined truck I have ever driven, ever!! The transmission is smooth and quick, ride quality is smooth and comfortable, handling is precise, and power is more than required even for a truck. Sierra does have a good infotainment system. But speakers are awful. Although it is comfortable, it feels cheap. Sierra has a lot of technology but the sound system is horrible. The sound is very distorted and has no bass. GMC Sierra 1500 is a pretty good looking truck. It looks like the expensive sibling of Silverado. Features like lane-keep, blind-spot alert, adaptive cruise control, 360-camera, rearview camera, pedestrian detection are all there in Sierra. The use of cheap materials is not very reassuring of its reliability. Paid close to $43,000 in total. The people were friendly but their vehicle inventory was small to choose from.

2020 GMC Sierra 1500.

Pros - Power, transmission, towing capacity

Cons - Rearview camera quality, ride quality, infotainment

Yes, Sierra is powerful but the question is- is it comfortable to drive? And the answer is NO it isn?!! Other than being uncomfortable it has everything: good towing capacity, power delivery is lenient/smooth. Rear camera is of power quality. And the center screen is very complicated to use and is unresponsive at times. Sierra certainly is not a comfortable truck to drive. Ride quality is very poor. You can feel every bump the road has. The touch screen is another part that is not good about Sierra? interior. It is very unresponsive. It belongs to 2010 and not 2020. Looks like any other truck on the road. Nothing outstanding about the design. Rear camera quality is very bad. Very disappointed! It has not been long since I bought it so I will reserve my judgment on reliability for later. Had a good credit score so got a good deal. The interest rate of the loan was low and the discount was also good. Perfect. I loved it. They work with you and will try to find the best fit for you.
