The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 will make its debut with a host of interesting changes and feature updates. The latest talk of the town is the inclusion of the Super Cruise feature which will allow the truck to drive by itself. Apart from this, there will be a major overhaul to the front and rear fascias and you can expect some bolder design elements along with a new LED pilot lamp design.

Speaking of the interior, you will be in for a surprise with lots of changes and quality of material being improved, more of which we will talk about in the interior section of this article. As for the powertrain, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is most likely to give up its 4.3-liter V6 and the 5.3-liter V8. In exchange, the turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine will be offered as the base choice while a 6.2-liter V8 will be offered optionally.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

"The 2022 Sierra 1500, which will receive an updated look, will be the second truck in GMC's lineup to get GM's Super Cruise, which is a hands-free advanced driver-assist system with automated highway lane-change assist." - Car And Driver

GMC has kept mum about how much will the 2022 Sierra 1500 cost, but expect the prices to start somewhere around $32,000. The trim lineup, however, could remain the same as the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500, which starts at an MSRP of $31,695. Now considering how Ford completely redesigned the 2021 F-150, it was only a matter of time before GMC decided to update its Sierra light-duty pickup as well. Even the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX has successfully managed to stir up this market. So let's find out more about what the all-new 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 could offer.

2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Pricing and Features

GMC hasn’t announced exact details of the trims and features that you will find in the 2022 Sierra 1500. We can, however, be sure that it will continue to be offered in Regular Cab, Crew Cab, and Double Cab models. Currently, the 2021 Sierra 1500 is offered in six trims; Sierra, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, and the range-topping Denali.

Cab-mounted cargo area lamps

3.5-inch Digital Driver Display with Outside temperature display

40/20/40 split front bench seat with covered armrest storage and 4-way manual adjustment

Tailgate and bed rail protection caps with CornerStep Rear Bumper

Standard tailgate with Locking

That could also remain unchanged for the 2022 redesign. In comparison to the 2021 Sierra Denali, the 2022 Denali will feature a new grille design. Even the Super Cruise and the fully digital instrument cluster will most likely be offered as standard on the 2022 Sierra Denali.

2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Buying Advice

The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 lineup has not yet been announced. However, going by the current 2021 Sierra 1500 lineup, the Denali will continue to be the most feature-rich and opulent trim of the new Sierra 1500 as well. But buyers looking to maximize their money's worth should look into the Sierra 1500 Elevation, which offers great value for money.

2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Engine and Performance

"The turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder will serve as the base engine, while the 6.2-liter V8 is optional in some applications." - Motor1.Com

The 2021 Sierra 1500 is available with five engine choices, three different transmissions, and rear- or all-wheel drive types. The base setup is a 4.3L naturally aspirated V6 that delivers 285 ponies and 305 lb-ft of torque via a six-speed automatic transmission. On the 2022 Sierra 1500, however, the 4.3L V6 could be tabled entirely.

Instead, the 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder will be made base. This motor produces 310 hp and 348 lb-ft torque. Apart from that, even the tried-and-tested 355 hp 5.3L V8 with Active Fuel Management will be discontinued but the same engine with the Dynamic Fuel Management system will be retained.

2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Fuel Economy

The current GMC Sierra 1500 models with the base 4.3L V6 manage 16 mpg in the city, 21 mpg on the highway, and 17 mpg combined. Now as that motor is being replaced by the 2.7L turbo-four as the base powertrain, the mpg figures will also most definitely improve. That 2.7-liter four-cylinder returns 20 mpg in the city, 23 mpg on the highway, and 21 mpg in mixed driving conditions.

That combined with the 24.0-gallon fuel tank which comes with it, should allow the 2022 Sierra 1500 to return a maximum range of 504 miles in mixed driving conditions. That way it will turn out to be one of the most economical light-duty pickups in its class. Currently, the Ford F-150 offers the best MPG figures across the board of 20 in the city, 25 on the highway, and 21 combined.

"Besides Super Cruise, GMC's photo also reveals that the 2022 Sierra is getting a fully digital instrument cluster. It's surely an optional item, but could very well be standard on Denali." - AutoBlog.Com

GMC will redo a lot in the interiors of the 2022 Sierra 1500. For starters, you can expect to see a much larger and crisper touchscreen for infotainment. Driver’s MID will sport an all-new digital layout and thanks to the Super Cruise being introduced in the 2022 Sierra 1500. You will find an array of LED lights on your steering wheel as well to warn you in case you take your eyes off from the road while the truck is engaged into semi-autonomous mode a.k.a Super Cruise.

Another notable change you can expect is an all-new gear column which will replace the old column shifter. You will also get more storage options on the inside and a larger panoramic sunroof to let in more greenhouse. The 2021 Sierra 1500 has a standard 7-inch touchscreen, two speakers in Regular Cab models, Bluetooth, a USB port, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

However, there was a bigger touchscreen, and even a Bose Premium Surround System available. For 2022 MY we expect the bigger touchscreen to be standard on the base and lower trims with higher trims receiving an all-new touchscreen. And that’s all we had on the interior but do keep an eye for this space as we will keep on updating this part as soon as we receive any new info.

2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Exterior

"In addition to the redesigned front end, the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra is also expected to introduce a new rear fascia, new wheel designs for certain models and trim levels, and a few new exterior colors as well." - GMAuthority.Com

The 2022 Sierra model will look similar to the outgoing model except for the front and rear fascias which are going to see a major refresh for the 2022 MY. At the front, the headlamps will see a redo and will definitely be a head-turner and the chrome grille and bumpers will complement the high riding 17-inch tires.

The door handles and the side mirrors will be black which can stick out sometimes. Apart from these, there will be a few changes to the overall side-profile in the form of lines and creases and nothing more. Moving to the rear end you will get a manually locking standard tailgate. While the other cabs get the EZ-lift tailgate as standard, but you can add that during customization.

For a rugged look, the Sierra Denali will sport a carbon-fiber bed, while the AT4 is expected to have a 2-inch factory lift, dark exterior accents, beefy all-terrain tires, and a pair of red tow hooks in the front just like the 2021 MY.

2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Vs 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The Silverado 1500 is a more VFM and practical truck compared to the Sierra 1500. Being a Chevy, the Silverado 1500 is easy on the pocket, unlike the GMC. But all this has a downside because as soon as you step inside the Silverado 1500, you are treated with cheap plastics and an economy-grade interior. So the Chevy Silverado 1500 could be your choice of truck if interior comfort, quality, and features are something you can compromise with. Otherwise, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 should be a truck worth waiting for.

2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Vs 2021 Ford F-150

The Ford F-150 is the most-liked and sold truck in the market. With a plethora of trim and powertrain options, Ford has a truck for each of your needs. When it comes to performance, the GMC Sierra quickly turns the tide in its favor. But a pickup is built to serve a different purpose altogether. That way, the Ford F-150 really impresses with its class-leading towing and payload capacities.

Pros - Spacious cabin, safety

Cons - Engine, transmission

I feel cheated I choose the 4.3L and I must tell you not a wise decision. At that time it made a lot of sense, the bigger engine, more torque, better performance, and whatnot. But now that I have driven it for some time, everything that I thought turned out to be a mere assumption and not reality. It is a pure disappointment. Someone will tell that if you want a more powerful engine fuel economy is a trade-off that you have to live with, yes I agree but where is the power I ask you. There is no power. The acceleration is sluggish and the only good part of the entire powertrain is the transmission. It is quick and The fuel economy is another horrifying aspect of the Sierra that no one is talking about, where Ford and RAM have been making trucks more economical and pocket-friendly but GMC ignores all this. precise and that is all.

Not what I had in mind

Pros - Seats, spacious, mpg

Cons - Transmission, headlights, infotainment

An amazing truck through and through. Handling is great especially for a truck, has good mpg numbers, and most important of all it is very comfortable and smooth to drive. Sierra has a good infotainment system. I like it very much. Sierra has amazing seats for a truck. Infotainment is not amazing though. It is confusing and is not very usable. Looks aggressive and stylish at the same time. Sierra is a truck you can take to the parties(or mountains if you want to). Headlights are dim which makes night driving difficult and a little unsafe. Transmission is not good and could have been way better. I hope GMC does a good job in the next model. Got an amazing deal. I had high hopes and it didn’t met even half of those expectations

2020 GMC Sierra

Pros - Looks, handling, interior

Cons - Customer support, mpg compared to previous models

Drives just like a truck, and gas mileage is worse than a truck. So, yes, not a good truck when it comes to the driving experience. A comfortable interior is the best part of having a Sierra 1500. I knew it was going to be spacious(It’s a truck), what I did not know was that it is going to be comfortable. That surprised me. Well, it is a good interior is all I can say at the end. Love the Sierra’s design. It is the best looking truck without any doubt. The backup camera is a life saver for me. I always mess up the reversing in tight parking spaces and it has been a huge help. The quality is pretty good too. GMC customer support is the worst! And mpg is even worse than that. It is worth the money as it has Almost everything one wants in a truck or at least what I want in a truck. It works and that’s all I can say. Got nothing good to say.

So many convenience features to make daily driving easy. A good amount of practicality depicts right from the design and the way it drives i.e, smooth. I can’t feel the difference between my Sonic and Sierra 1500 in terms of driving dynamics.
