The 2021 GMC Canyon Denali Diesel offers only a single engine option for all the diesel enthusiasts out there. It comes at a base price of $49,625 and hosts a 2.8L Duramax turbo-diesel in-line 4-cylinder that produces 181 horsepower and a massive 369 lb-ft of torque. The interiors are luxurious for its price point, it comes with soft-touch material and leatherette. The infotainment offering is just about standard for the 2021 Canyon Denali diesel.

On one hand, the 2021 Canyon Denali Diesel delivers one of the best driving experiences in its class, and on the other hand, it has a dissatisfying gas mileage to offer. However, it does match the potential of its competition, and it stands strong against the rivalry from the 2021 Jeep Gladiator and the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado Z71.

Power for the 2021 GMC Canyon Denali Crew Cab comes from the 3.6L V6 engine that churns out 308 hp and 275 lb-ft. of torque. This engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and delivers great performance. The towing capacity of this engine is rated at 3,500 pounds. Power is driven to the rear wheels or all four wheels depending on the choice of the configuration. The power delivery of the V6 is responsive and gradual that makes it a great city pickup truck that is not too large.

2021 GMC Canyon Denali Crew Cab engine

The 2021 Canyon is a pretty relaxing truck to drive. It doesn't bounce or shake over road imperfections as a heavy-duty pickup truck would. The steering is perfectly weighted and has a more dialed-in feel than its rivals. Speaking of handling, the 2021 Canyon feels planted at turns while the grip is strong. The 4WD configuration is also available on the Denali so you can have easy access on muddy terrain. However, if you are looking for extreme off-roading, then the AT4 is a perfect choice.

2021 GMC Canyon Denali Crew Cab takes 6.3 seconds to reach 60 MPH

Due to its light curb weight, the 2021 Canyon's acceleration is excellent compared to its rivals. The 2021 Canyon Denali is able to do the 0-60 MPH run in just 6.3 seconds, all the while covering the quarter-mile in a distance of 15.2 seconds. Those are some impressive numbers for a truck of this size. Coming to its brakes, the 2021 Canyon Denali gets 12.2-inch rotors fixed in the front wheels and 12.7-inch rotors at the back. 2021 GMC Canyon Denali Diesel Crew Cab Fuel Economy

4.0/10

The Canyon's economy figures are on par with most of its competitors- Carbuzz

For a vehicle of this class and size, the MPG figures put up by the 2021 GMC Canyon Denali Crew Cab are decent. The V6 engine on offer makes this truck just as efficient as a pickup truck can be. The Canyon's MPG figures are 18 MPG in the city, 25 MPG on a highway, and 21 MPG combined in its RWS guise. Switching to 4WD drops down the city and highway figures by 1 MPG.

The reason for its good fuel ratings is that GMC employs cylinder deactivation technology to help the Canyon save some fuel. The 2021 Canyon Denali also gets a large 21-gallon fuel tank which gives it a decent range on a tank full. It can drive up to 441 miles in combined form when equipped with an RWD configuration while the 4WD users will get up to 399 miles, which is still acceptable.

The GMC Canyon is considered a premium midsize truck, and it looks the part- Kelly Blue Book

The 2021 GMC Canyon Denali gets a handsome design with a bold and aggressive-looking front. Upfront, there are tons of chrome on the big grille, and the GMC badging kind of disappears in it. The hood is sculpted while the body lines lead down to the nose. The Denali gets LED headlights and DRLs as standard. On the lower fascia, you will find the LED fog lamps that have chrome accents and tow hooks. The 2021 Canyon sits low compared to its rivals at 8.3 inches. This makes it easy to get in and out of the vehicle. Even from the side view, you can see every small detail in chrome.

The Denali lettering, door handles, mirrors, running boards, and window trim also have chrome accents. The side profile is boxy while the rear has some subtle design elements. The 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels look dope on the Canyon. At the rear, there is a large GMC Denali badging at the center with LED taillights on either side and tow hooks on the lower fascia. Large side steps are also provided to climb into the bed easily. Overall, the 2021 Canyon has a great visual appeal and does not fail to attract a number of eyeballs when it is out on the road.

2021 GMC Canyon Denali Crew Cab vs 2021 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 Crew Cab

The Chevy Colorado Crew Cab is the most inexpensive truck in this segment despite being a sibling of the Canyon. That's because the Canyon Denali is more of a luxurious offering. Being a twin brother of the Canyon, the Colorado's performance, fuel economy, interior dimensions, cargo capacity, towing capacity, and safety features are all the same. The main difference lies in the front-end styling and cabin layout. Compared to the Canyon Denali, the Colorado's cabin feels cheap and there are plenty of hard plastics.

2021 GMC Canyon Denali Crew Cab vs 2021 Ford Ranger Lariat Crew Cab

The 2021 Ford Ranger Crew Cab and the Canyon Denali have a price difference of more than $6,000. Its 2.3L turbo-4 engine makes 38 hp less than the Canyon and therefore, its 0-60 timing is slightly slower. However, the Ranger's cabin lacks the poshness and spaciousness of the Canyon Denali but its cargo volume is good. In terms of safety, the Ranger has earned better safety ratings and also boasts a long list of safety technologies.

Also, it has the worst fuel ratings in this segment but its large fuel tank delivers a class-leading range. Its towing capacity is the best with 1,440 pounds more than the Canyon. The rear-seat room and the cargo capacity offered in the RAM 1500 are the best in this segment. When it comes to safety, it is the only truck in its segment with the 'IIHS Top Safety Pick' award.
