Expert Review

8.1

Overall Rating

Genesis is paving the way for the competitive SUV market with its brand new production, GV80. It is a full-fledged SUV planned to take on the Germans that have been dominating the race. A great design on the exterior while adding a flair of luxury on the inside, the GV80 makes a strong statement that it is here to stay in this particular segment. A stellar performance from the 2.5L Inline-4 or the 3.5L V6 both dominate their German counterparts with ease. Exciting times we get to live in with such brilliant vehicles coming in to challenge the status quo!

The all-new GV80 will rival the top players in the market. It competes against the likes of Mercedes GLE 350, Audi Q5, and the BMW X4.

2021 Genesis GV80 Maintenance, Reliability and Warranty

Genesis is Hyundai's luxury division; we can expect the reliability of the GV80 to be rather significant. The GV80 price is modest, which will prove its worth as the right luxury SUV. The J.D Power reports for Genesis GV80 are not out yet, but we are confident it will score high reliability in the tests. If we compare it with other brands, the Genesis is offering superior value and quality.

Reliability and Ownership Costs

Since its launch, Genesis cars offer desirable looks and luxury features. As it is under the head of Hyundai, Genesis will have the same trustability. The JD Power reliability scored isn't out yet, but we can expect an above-average 75-80 out of 100 for the GV80. The maintenance and reliability will be easy but won't be cheap, as it is a luxury SUV. The Genesis GV80 will be packed with superior performance as Hyundai is one of the world's top car manufacturers.

On average, the price of the Genesis GV80 is around $49,000. The price in different states of the U.S will vary because of the taxes, insurance, and incentives.

Washington

Florida

California

Arizona

New Jersey

We can consider it an SUV by Hyundai but luxury. It has the essence of Hyundai. The Genesis GV80 has not been rated yet by the NHTSA. Other Hyundai SUVs like the Santa Fe scored 5 out of 5 stars, so based on that, we can expect the same results from the GV80. Also, just like other Hyundai cars, Genesis cars get complimentary scheduled maintenance.

In terms of ownership, the Genesis GV80 will cost you around $52,000 for 5-years. The price is considerably low if we compare it with some of the rivals.

Warranty

Hyundai offers the best in class warranty coverage, and its subsidiary Genesis holds a similar warranty. It is one of the most reliable brands. With its free maintenance, Genesis offers service valet for its cars. Also, you will get monthly vehicle health reports. 24-hour roadside assistance is available in the package. A 5-year/60,000miles limited warranty is available with all the Genesis cars.

Criteria

5year/60,000miles

24-hour roadside assistance

5year/unlimited miles

Genesis has the best in class warranty where rivals like BMW and Mercedes offer a 3year/36,000miles warranty and a maximum of 5 years of powertrain warranty. With this warranty, Genesis becomes the most reliable luxury SUV in this price bracket. Also, the free maintenance is for 3year/36,000miles, which is good enough. No other brand can match this kind of warranty.

Miles Per Dollar

The Genesis GV80 is a 300hp luxury SUV. The four-cylinder engine runs on gas, which costs around $2.8. The GV80 will offer a combined 22mpg approx. So, if we calculate the MPD, then it comes out to be 7.8, which sounds great for a 300hp SUV.

2021 Genesis GV80 Buying Advice

The Genesis GV80 offers three trims, and all of them are well sorted. The 3.5T trim is the middle trim and gets the 375hp V-6 engine and all the luxury features. If you are good to go with a 5-seater SUV, then the 3.5T is the best choice. This trim gets the heated seats and a heating steering wheel. There's massive infotainment. Also, a standard 4WD system makes it more than capable. For a price of $59,150, the GV80 3.5T is a great deal.

The reliability score is not out yet, but we know that the GV80 shares some similarities with the Hyundai Santa-Fe. The Hyundai Santa-Fe in the JD Power reliability report scored 76 out of 100. The 8-speed auto w/od manual transmission offers reliable performance.

Is buying a used GV80 a good idea?

Well, as this the first year the GV80 will be hitting the roads, there might not be any used GV80’s for sale anytime soon. However, buying a used Genesis is a good idea as the products from the brand depreciate rather quickly.

2021 Genesis GV80 Engine and Performance

8.1/10

The base trim of the GV80, the 2.5T, has a 2.5L Inline-4 engine that generates 300 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque and has an optional AWD. The 3.5T and 3.5T Advanced Plus trim, both get a bigger 3.5L 375hp V-6 engine with a torque output of 391lb-ft and a standard AWD system.

2021 Genesis GV80 engine

The 8-speed automatic w/od manual transmission is the same on all the trims. In this price bracket, the Genesis GV80 is the best option we have.

The 2.5L I-4 on the GV80 outputs 300hp power and 311lb-ft of torque, which is the highest in the price range. The 4WD system isn't standard on the base 2.5T trim, which offers the best deal from the perspective of the MSRP; still, it offers the lowest price per HP.

2021 Genesis GV80 Acceleration and Braking Performance

The Acceleration of the GV80 has not officially undergone many tests. But still, we can say it does put unbeatable numbers on the table. The 2.5T 300hp trim can sprint from 0 to 60mph in a time of 6.2 seconds. \

2021 Genesis GV80 accelerate 0-60 mph just in 6.2 sec.

The 3.5T trim can do it much faster with its 375hp V-6 in just 5.7 seconds; the AWD makes it more thrilling. The braking distance of the Genesis GV80 should be around 125-130 feet

2021 Genesis GV80 Fuel Economy

6.0/10

Despite its fantastic performance, the GV80 still manages an excellent fuel economy somehow. The 2.5T trim with its 300hp 4 cylinder engine provides a fuel economy of around 22 mpg combined. The GV80 gets a fuel tank capacity of 21.1 gallons. With this figure, the GV80 is too good for long routes.

2021 Genesis GV80 Interior

8.0/10

When you get inside the GV80, you'll get a whole new luxury experience. The entire interior sits pretty in luxury and elegance with premium clothing and leather paired with wood trim and chrome accents. The cabin is something we have never seen before; GV80 is luxurious and spacious from the inside. The premium chrome design and gear knob on the center console looks neat while the infotainment sits beautifully in the dash's center, the LED central console is massive. The large door panel gets LED buttons.

Premium leather seats heighten the sense of luxury, offering great comfort and support. They get 12-way power adjustments with heating function. The big armrest with storage is practical and a massive glove box on the passenger side for storage. Overall, ergonomics of the cabin are mindblowing. Also, you can avail of the dual-pane panoramic sunroof on the GV80. Generally, the GV80 is a five-seater, but the 3.5T Advanced Plus trim gets seven-person seating capacity.

How's the infotainment on the 2021 Genesis GV80?

At the center, the massive 14.5-inch infotainment sits like a throne. It looks great with the split-screen design. The big size makes it easily visible from the rear row. The infotainment gets three years of maps and navigation in the package. For your entertainment, the Sirus XM/FM/HD is there with 150 channels and radio. Smartphone integration in forms of both Apple car play and Android auto support features by the infotainment that also acts as a rearview display. Genesis GV80 vs. Mercedes GLE 350

Mercedes is nearly the same size as GV80. It hosts a state of the art luxury and design. Unfortunately, the price is high, and at the same price, Genesis offers better performance and capability.

2021 Mercedes GLE 350

Genesis GV80 vs. Audi Q5

The Q5 is a cheaper alternative to the GV80. Q5 gets slightly less power, but it does come with a standard AWD system. Also, it offers luxury and comfort features. In terms of styling and overall convenience, the GV80 beats the Q5.

2021 Audi Q5

Genesis GV80 vs. BMW X4

X4 is the most practical SUV in the segment, which makes it the fastest after the GV80. BMW X4 gets the best fuel economy, fair price, and a standard AWD system.

2021 BMW X4

The X4 can compete with the GV80 somehow, but it lacks when you realize that the performance of GV80 is much better.

2021 Genesis GV80 Final Verdict

The 2021 GV80 is a modern car and looks way ahead of its time. The overall look is stylish and looks phenomenal.
