The Ford Mustang is perhaps the most iconic muscle car in the whole of America. Even back in the 1960s, there used to be a small debate over the fans of coupes and convertibles. “Yeah, that alright. But can you take the roof off?” was the most common argument. Eventually, the convertible Mustang GT won the most points for its style.

That difference carries over to this day. For 2020, there are different trims for the Mustang GT. As expected, the Convertible gets the most from the get-go, and Ford is all the better for it. True to its Premium namesake, it has some of the best features you can ask from a Ford Mustang, more so in terms of interior. Some of these even carry forth to the amazing Shelby GT500. Still, is it enough to get by its American and German competitors?

Does the Mustang GT Convertible have comfortable seats?

Ford knows you’ll be spending a lot of time in the driver’s seat. Thus, there is the option to swap out the front seats for sportier Recaro variants. These have adjustable side bolsters and offer a leather-trimmed upholstery instead of microsuede. The front seats have plenty of space for passengers. Even the headrests are 4-way adjustable to offer maximum comfort over extended periods of time.

As for the rear seats, it is better to count them out entirely. Not even children would find them comfortable, especially with adults in the front. It is best to fold them down for more cargo space or use them as storge shelves. For those looking to seat extra passengers in the back, the Dodge Challenger R/T or the Audi A5 is a much better option.

Thanks to its MagneRide adaptive dampers, the Mustang GT Convertible can be very stiff around corners providing a lot of grip. Out on the road, the system softens them up to soak any bumps, making the ride much more comfortable. It doesn’t matter if it is a couple of hundred pounds heavier than the Fastback, the ride remains sublime. Visibility from inside the car is much better than any other convertible in this segment. The few blind spots that do persist can easily be dealt with the BLIS blind-spot monitoring system.

There is a dual-zone automatic climate control that provides a perfect temperature to the driver and passenger regardless of the weather outside the car. Ford also equips the Mustang GT with a particulate air filtration system that maintains a decent air quality inside the cabin. Heated and ventilated seats come standard for the convertible since it only rocks the Premium trim.

Can the Ford Mustang GT carry some cargo?

As for cargo space, the Ford Mustang GT Convertible is just enough to get by. Its trunk lid opens up to nearly at a right angle, though trunk should better be utilized for track equipment than large suitcases. The access to the cargo space is difficult due to its restricted opening. Furthermore, its lack of symmetry makes it a chore to adjust any excess luggage.

The small-item storage fare much better. The cupholders can easily hold medium-sized latte cups and can be used to store sunglasses or wallets. The glove box has a dedicated slot for the owner’s manual and, therefore, offers generous storage space. The side pockets provide a convenient spot for storing any stationery.

How good is the infotainment system?

Ford has made the FordPass Connect with its trusted Sync 3 infotainment system a standard for all Mustangs in its 2020 lineup. The GT Convertible is no exception. At the center of the console sits an 8-inch touchscreen color display that can cater to most of your infotainment needs. It is easy to use with the Sync 3 system and can be made even more convenient through Android Auto or Apple CarPlay integration.

There are also a lot of infotainment features that the Mustang GT benefits from. These include:

  • Bluetooth Connectivity
  • 2 USB ports
  • AUX cable input
  • AM/FM/HD Radio
  • SiriusXM Satellite Radio
  • 4G Wi-Fi Hotspot
  • Intelligent Access with Push Button Start
  • MyKey Driving Mode Configurator

For the driver-side dash, there is a separate 12-inch digital display configurable through Track Apps. A digital display is faster than any analog dials since it offers more precise readings of the car’s performance. In Track mode, the display can give out the finer details like g-forces and lap times. In regular conditions, it can display more relevant data such as navigation to limit any distractions for the driver.

If you just enjoy the sound of the rumbling V8 under the hood, the default 9-speaker audio system is more than enough. True audiophiles would prefer the exclusive Bang & Olufsen 12-speaker premium surround sound system. It might seem old-school because it has a CD-player in 2020, but it is far more advanced in other aspects. It adds a subwoofer in the trunk to get you good high-end bass inside the car. It also hosts active noise cancellation that keeps most of the road and engine noise at bay, letting you enjoy your favorite tunes.

How does the Ford Mustang GT do in terms of the interior?

The Ford Mustang GT lives up to its roots and is far more comfortable than most other muscle cars in this segment. Yes, it could improve upon the passenger space a bit more, which lets the Dodge Challenger R/T become far more practical. In spite of all that, you can never go wrong with the Ford Mustang GT for a car you want to spend a lot of time in.

Pony car.

I didn? buy this for short drives like shopping, and commercial purposes. It? purely meant for long drives on the highway. I like the sound of the engine roaring under the hood while driving at great speed.
