The 2020 Ford Mustang brings back the nostalgia and a superstar feel owing to its Hollywood roots. The 1968 Bullitt inspired the automaker to opt for the name for its special-edition Mustang. The tribute is the most appropriate to date, with the car matching its show with a lot of go. Priced at $47,705, Mustang Bullit’s coyote V-8 offers 20hp bump with meaner looks and traditional flamboyance.

The artifact has been devised to reach every enthusiast. The tactile innovation from Ford has resulted in a distinct Mustang, Bullitt. Dating back to 1968 when McQueen took flying lessons in Mustang GT, Bullitt has aroused the right sentiment among the American power-ardent. The Bullitt sets itself apart from the rest of the lineup, thanks to the uprated performance, meaner looks, and unique driving experience.

2020 saw a price hike for a similar production Bullit model, a significant rise of almost $1000. Not making any difference for the automaker other than bigger bank balance, Mustang Bullitt surely gets a nod from old Steve himself. The natural rival of the Mustang being the Camaro might also feel the heat. Muscle car wars without the Dodge Challenger and premium coupe from Lexus won’t garner much attention.

What do we recommend?

The Mustang Bullitt is a standalone model that exemplifies the best muscle performer with a high head-turning quotient. How can we forget the Hollywood roots of Bullitt?

2020 Ford Mustang BULLITT Coupe Engine and Performance

9.0/10

2020 starts to witness a surge of emotions and a wave of enthusiasm built around the limited-production Mustang Bullitt hitting the road. The 2020 Mustang Bullitt is based on the Mustang GT, thereby using the same beefy 5.0L Coyote V8 engine with an uprated output. The coyote gets a new breath of life with an uprated power of 480 hp from 460 hp in Mustang GT. Ford smarty engineered some intake modifications, borrowed from Shelby 350. The V8 engine produces oodles of low-end torque and makes the Bullitt eager to rev out. The wide rear tires manage to put the power down reliably.

Transmission duties are bestowed upon the traditional 6-speed manual transmission, only available option. The transmission features a twin disk clutch and the cue ball shifter is a work of tactile art. The rev-matching manual transmission is super crisp under fire.

The hypnotic sound of Bullitt’s coyote V8 is further amplified, thanks to the active valve performance exhaust system. The Bullitt may not boast the power figures of Shelby Mustang variants but it is one of the best Mustangs with exceptional fun-to-drive factor.

How fast is the Ford Mustang Bullitt?

The 2020 Bullitt sprint to 60 mph in under four seconds where a stock GT takes around four and a half seconds. The 20 hp of uprated power due to equipment borrowings from Mustang Shelby350 and improvements made to the chassis helps it lay down power more efficiently.

2020 Ford Mustang BULLITT Coupe hits 0-60 mph in just 4.0 sec

The combination of modifications places the 2020 Bullitt between GT and mighty Shelby 350. The quarter-mile is vanquished in 12.4 seconds.

The aerodynamic design with wide rear tires quite efficiently and responsibly cuts the winding roads and manages the power surge as you cut loose. The manual transmission needs some power to push the shifter to the gear. That’s exactly what we want to have.

How good is the Ride and Handling of the Mustang Bullitt?

The rejuvenated Mustang Bullitt is a befitting tribute to the Bullitt movie starrer, 1968 Mustang GT. If GT is like rain and Shelby 350 a hurricane, the Bullitt is a drizzle. Driving Bullitt is a whole different experience when compared to the standard Mustang. Drive feels modern: sharp and responsive, perfectly the way it is intended for. Modern-day cops, unlike yesterdays, won’t think twice to chase down the bad’s on San Francisco roads. The younger sibling, Bullitt makes for a better performer than its inspiration. The reason why Bullitt feels so good is that it comes standard with the GT performance package.

2020 Ford Mustang BULLITT Coupe three quarter view

The GT Performance package adds chassis and suspension upgrades, including a sway bar, K-member bracing, sportier front springs and modified power steering software and traction control. Trained enough, Bullitt will dance through the corners to your tunes. Swirling through the twisties Bullitt remains planted. Toggle the driving modes to outperform yourself, picking the best tuning among Normal, Snow, Sport, Track and Drag strip, depending on conditions and mood.

On the road, the Bullitt offers surprising levels of comfort and convenience. That’s only when you take the driving seat. The ride quality is compliant, however, Bullitt won’t make it good for a family hauler. The MagneRide damping system can be purchased for added comfort and predictability.

What about the Braking performance?

To stop a Bullitt, thick metal Brembo six-caliper front and four-caliper rear brakes come to the rescue. The Mustang Bullitt stops quickly within its tracks. The brakes take the challenge head-on and show some serious resistance to some lunatic racecourse or twisty adventure.

The brake pedal responds with enough feedback for a driver to know what’s going on, reliable and accurate. The muscle car weight isn’t hidden but shadowed with some mindful modifications, that make the Bullitt truly the best Mustang.

2020 Ford Mustang BULLITT Coupe Fuel Economy

7.0/10

Coming as a surprise the Bullitt beats the stock GT in terms of fuel economy even after a 20 hp pump. Ford estimates the manual Bullitt at 18/29/22 mpg on city/highway/combined but reaching those numbers needs a stroke of good luck, especially when the exhaust valves are open. However, the EPA estimates bring down the numbers, presenting a much more practical image.

Compared to the Shelby versions, we can definitely call the Bullitt an economical car. All mustangs come with the 16-gallons fuel tank to keep your peace of mind while on the road. On the highway, Mustang Bullitt is a real saver while in the city, it's the Camaro SS and RC F taking the lead.

2020 Ford Mustang BULLITT Coupe Interior

9.0/10

Tastefully done, Ford must be credited to maintain the retro flavor of the 1960’s Mustang in a modern style. The 2020 Bullitt is a four-place sports coupe that offers a clean and contemporary cabin, looks visually stunning, is easy to use and functional. The space on offer in Bullitt at the front is driver centered with even the wingman who is 6-feet tall, suffers from in-adequate legroom. The rear must be left for the young or hauling luggage. However, the heated and cooled leather-trimmed front bucket seats will keep the temperature in sync with your body planted. It is easy to find a comfortable seating position, and outwards visibility is good.

The Bullitt can be differentiated from the rest of the Mustang with the dark highland green accent stitching and classic white cue ball shifter. For added convenience, Bullitt features a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, aluminum instrument cluster, and a leather-wrapped center console. The differentiators are minuscule but they combine to give the Bullitt a distinct personality.

How good is the Infotainment setup of the Mustang Bullitt?

The Bullitt Mustang receives Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system along with a wide range of software and external tools to complement it. The Sync 3 infotainment system is not the quickest or smoothest in the market so the additional aid feels justified. With the FordPass Connect, a hardwired 4G LTE Wi-Fi system allows your smart devices to be in touch with the Bullitt. Other than this, the FordPass system makes your drive easier by facilitating you finding the destination or empty parking space.

Apple Carplay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa compatibility come standard. A 9-speaker sound system with an amplifier keeps the drive entertained with acoustic notes. It is 2020, Bullitt allows you to watch the first half of 1968 Bullitt and get the TV ready to complete the second half of the movie.

How much is the Cargo capacity of the Mustang Bullitt?

The dimensions are most common across the Mustang lineup. The Bullitt offers a reasonable cargo space for it to become a practical daily driver, predominantly when the rear seats are folded for extra storage. The trunk lid opens full 90 degrees but the entrance is a bit narrow.

It is not a Clash of a Clan, but a clan complimenting each other. Mustang Bullitt shares its dimensions with the rest of the Mustang lineup. The 2020 Bullitt wears a traditional Mustang Silhouette with special edition sentiments to keep it distinct and appealing. The visual cue that you are driving a limited-production Bullitt is the absence of “Pony” on the car’s grille. The exclusive Dark highland green gives a formidable presence to the muscle car. Ford has kept Bullitt with a clean and sharp exterior, no vents on the sides.

2020 Ford Mustang BULLITT Coupe Safety

9.0/10

The Mustang Bullitt is a safe car backed by commendable safety ratings from the federal safety rating agencies. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) quantified the safety of Bullitt with full five-star overall safety ratings. However, the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) took a critical viewpoint. For crashworthiness, Bullitt scores “Average” for small front overlap on the driver-side while for rest it scores “Good”. IIHS failed to test the headlights and did not test the optional systems.

Key safety features

  • AdvanceTrac with Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

2020 Ford Mustang BULLITT Coupe Competition

Mustang Bullitt Vs Chevrolet Camaro SS

This is the rivalry marked the start of automotive wars for the production of the best muscle or pony car. The Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro are the most evenly matched rivals. The Camaro rides on a larger wheelbase pushed heavenly, thanks to a higher torque. Also, the Camaro is a bit less thirsty than its counterpart. However, Bullitt belongs to a special cult and marks something historic to stay with you. Though It’s a matter of preference, we wouldn’t judge you for choosing either one.

2020 Chevrolet Camaro SS

Mustang Bullitt Vs Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack

Technically, Mustang and Challenger are put in the same category of Muscle cars but offers different set of skills. Mustang is sharp possession with capable handling and better steering. The Challenger packs a powerful engine, a practical trunk, more space both in front and rear complemented by comfortable seats. This trade-off with the heft the Challenger carries which forbids it to be the nimble or instant charger.

2020 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack

Mustang Bullitt Vs Lexus RC F

Lexus RC F is a pricier coupe, a more of a luxury performer. The Lexus packs the RC F with premium interiors to arouse the aroma of rubber screeching. More standard convenience features make their way in. having said that, Lexus RC F isn’t a track racer or a sports car in a true sense. It is a luxury over the muscle that differentiates the Lexus RC F from Mustang Bullitt.

2020  Lexus RC F

2020 Ford Mustang BULLITT Coupe Final Verdict

8.9/10

Tributes and special-editions of yesteryear classics from the automakers have been witnessed time and again but none has achieved the status of what Bullitt has accomplished. Taking an example of the Chevy Camaro transformers which packed the V6 or SS V8 with a payable appearance package, did not mark the authenticity and uniqueness for that appeal. Ford has mindfully worked the Bullitt to stand out in the Mustang lineup. The Mustang Bullitt is a true performer, thanks to the modifications to the chassis and engine. Bullitt is truly fast, practical, visually appealing and it makes you feel like a superstar instantly. What else would you want?
