The gem of the Ford F trucks, the F-150 comes with the huge responsibility of holding up the legendary status of the Fordtrucks, and boy does it deliver on this front. Best in class towing combined with the interiors and refined driving dynamics explains the popularity of this truck.

The XL trim is the lowest-priced trim that provides entry to the world of F trucks for as low as $27k. The refined driving dynamics of the F series surprisingly aren’t what one expects from a truck. The new 10-speed automatic transmission also pitches it above its usual rivals.

With the General Motors twins and the Ram 1500 also running for the crown of America’s most beloved truck, the F-150 faces stiff competition. Part of the 13th generation of F trucks, the addition of the 10-speed automatic transmission gives this year’s F-150 an added advantage over its competition.

2018 Ford F-150 SuperCab Pricing and Features

9.1/10

The 2018 Ford F-150 has carried over the same revolutionary aluminum body that helps it stay lightweight for delivering excellent fuel economy and high payload rating. The base XL trim at $27,380 is your entry ticket to the F-150 club. And then is the F-150 Raptor with high output 3.5-liter Ecoboost V6 and off-road spec drivetrain. For the cowboys among you, Ford has an old school 5.0 liter V8 and an aptly named "King Ranch" trim to go with it. And now, the latest addition is the 3.0L Power Stroke Turbo-Diesel V6. Frequent haulers, get your cheques ready.

For most of us, the Lariat trim offers the best value for money. For just $8,000 over the XLT trim, you get the more efficient, more powerful, and more refined 2.7L Ecoboost engine as standard that adds to the productivity of the truck along with a class exclusive 10-speed automatic. On the infotainment front, Lariat has SYNC 3 and Sirius XM Satellite Radio as standard. Although, those in need of a workhorse for their business can go for the XL trim that comes with 3.3L V6 that could save a lot of money.

2018 Ford F-150 SuperCab Engine and Performance

8.9/10

The biggest news for the 2018 Ford F-150 is the addition of a 3.0L Turbo-Diesel V6 developing 440 lb-ft torque as low as 1750 rpm. However, you have to wait until spring for it. The base 3.3L V6 has sufficient grunt and can meet daily driving needs as it produces a healthy 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. However, the advanced 2.7L turbocharged EcoBoost V6 delivers more effortless performance and the best in class fuel economy, and it is the one to get. The EcoBoost is also available as a higher displacement 3.5L V6 with 375 bhp and a phenomenal 470 Nm of torque and you don't have to compromise heavily on fuel efficiency either.

The RAM 1500 is the cheapest truck of the lot but has the highest power output here, while the Chevy-GMC trucks are on the expensive side and have the most amount of torque. The Ford F-150 has the least amount of torque but has a decent power output from its standard V6 engine.

What is the 2018 Ford F-150 SuperCab's 0-60 mph Acceleration Performance?

Ford's class-exclusive 10-speed automatic is hugely impressive when coupled to any of the available engines but the standard engine is mated with a 6-speed automatic. Together, they achieve 60 mph from a standstill in a respectable 7.6 seconds while the quarter-mile is covered in just under 16 seconds.

The RAM with its superior output has the fastest quarter-mile timings while the Chevy-GMC trucks with their higher torque numbers have a better 0-60 mph run. The F-150 is the slowest truck here in both the acceleration tests.

What is the 2018 Ford F-150 SuperCab's Braking Performance?

The F-150 is equipped with vented disc brakes in front and rear with the front rotor of 13.8-inch and rear rotor of 13.7-inch. The braking performance of the F-150 is commendable even when loaded. The vehicle can stop from 60mph in 139 feet despite weighing over 4,400 lbs.

The RAM 1500 performs exceptionally well as it has one of the best stopping distances in this comparison. The F-150 is on the other end of the spectrum, as it travels the farthest in panic braking situations when braking from 60 mph.

Has the Ride and Handling of the 2018 Ford F-150 SuperCab improved?

The F-150 has compliant ride quality and it soaks up bumps with ease. However, the RAM 1500 still has the best ride quality by far in this segment - thanks to the air suspension. The F-150 has lackluster steering feedback and it does not inspire confidence when diving into the corner. The Aluminum body of the F-150 definitely makes it feel lighter and hence more maneuverable.

For those who need to take their F-150 on the untrodden path, ford offers FX4 off-road package (available in 4x4 equipped F-150 only). FX4 optioned F-150 comes equipped with scuff plates, electronically limited-slip differential, and hill descent control to keep things going when the going gets tuff.

What is the Towing and Payload capacity of the 2018 Ford F-150 SuperCab?

The base F-150 with the 3.3L V6 under the bonnet can tow up to 5000 pounds. Those in need of serious load-lugging capability can option F-150 with 3.5L turbocharged EcoBoost V6 for a maximum towing capacity of 11,800 Lbs. That's more than the towing capacity of the much-awaited F-150 diesel V6 (11,400 pounds). The maximum payload capacity for the F-150 Super Cab is 1,885 lbs.

The Silverado and the Sierra both have a much higher towing capacity than both the other trucks in this comparison. They both also have a higher payload capacity than the F-150, with the top honors going to the RAM 1500 which incidentally has the least towing capacity.

2018 Ford F-150 SuperCab Fuel Economy

7.5/10

The 2.7L V6 equipped F-150 is the most efficient vehicle in its class with its 4x2 iteration with a combined EPA rating of 22 mpg. The 3.5L V6 is amongst the most powerful in the segment and still delivers an impressive combined EPA rating of 19 mpg. The standard base V6 engine also is one of the most efficient engines as it is rated at 20 mpg around the town, 25 mpg out on the highway, and an overall combined rating of 22 mpg. With a large 23-gallon gas tank, one can drive this engine for over 500 miles on a regular basis.

2018 Ford F-150 SuperCab Interior

8.1/10

The F150 The F150`s cabin is well appointed and has an impressive level of fit and finish. The quality of materials used does not disappoint either. The fit and finish in the F150 are better than luxury sedans from a few years ago. The driving position of the F-150 has been the best in the class and it does not disappoint this time either.

The amount of space available inside is sufficient to accommodate 5 or 6 (based on the choice of seat/armrest) tall adults in absolute comfort. The seats provide good support. The cabin also features plenty of small storage space to stow away your knick-knacks.

  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • 60-40 Folding Split-Bench Fold-Up Cushion Rear Seat

  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility
  • Voice-activated built-in navigation
  • Mobile Hotspot Internet Access
  • 7-speaker audio system
  • SiriusXM Satellite Radio with a 6-month prepaid subscription

2018 Ford F-150 SuperCab Exterior

8.9/10

The F-150 is quintessentially Ford and has the appeal to stand out in the crowd of pickup trucks. The large front grille with the thick grey bar in the center with the chunky front bumper gives it an aggressive and muscular look. While the LED headlights with C-shaped DRLs provide modernity.

F-150 can be optioned with 5.5-foot, 6.5-foot, and 8-foot bed length. The bed length available depends on the chosen cabin style and you have to option it according to your need. Ford offers a lot of goodies for your tailgate like in-bed LED lights, a system of moveable tie-downs, and a tailgate step.

The ground clearance is among the best in class for the F-150, which is also matched by most of the other trucks in the segment. The F-150 is also the lightest truck despite being the longest and one of the widest here. The RAM offers the shortest wheelbase as it is the shortest truck here.

2018 Ford F-150 SuperCab Safety

8.5/10

Modern trucks are filled to the brim with active safety features, and the Ford's F-150 has no dearth of clever electronic aids either. Ford offers a blind-spot monitor, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and parking assist. The crashworthiness of the 2018 Ford F-150 ensures that you stay alive even if you do something foolish enough to break the electronic safety net. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has given a 5-star crash safety rating to this truck, so you can munch on that big burger when out on the highway with little worry. Major safety features include-

  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC) And Roll Stability Control (RSC)
  • ABS And Driveline Traction Control

2018 Ford F-150 SuperCab Competition

8.8/10

Ram 1500 Vs Ford F-150

The Ram 1500 is priced less compared to F-150 in comparable trim and has a class-leading ride, comfort, and cabin quality. However, F-150 scores in fuel efficiency, power, and towing capacity. F150 also depreciates less. All in all, Ram 1500 proves to be a better pick if cabin comfort is your top priority, but other than that, the F-150 is a no-brainer choice for most buyers.

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Vs Ford F-150

The Silverado 1500 has better materials in the interior trim, and it has excellent cabin noise insulation. The Silverado looks menacing with high headlights but that's about it. The F-150 trumps the Silverado in pretty much everything else. Also, the Chevrolet vehicles (part of general motors) are known for having reliability issues while Ford is known for making great and long-lasting vehicles.

GMC Sierra 1500 Vs Ford F-150

The GMC Sierra is the same as the Silverado under the skin. However, it is more upscale. Compared to F-150, the Sierra and Silverado suffer the same drawbacks. Arguably the best in class interiors, the GMC only manages to better in one department but falters in almost every other parameter. Thus, no matter the purpose of you buying the truck, the Ford F-150 should be able to cater to all your needs efficiently.

2018 Ford F-150 SuperCab Final Verdict

9.0/10

America's love affair with Henry Ford's creation reaches its 100th year, and the centenary series of vehicles also stand strong on the foundation laid by him. Reliable, beautiful, and class-leading, the F series is for the brash and bold who aren't afraid to lead the pack by example. With upto almost 12,000 lbs of towing capability, this truck should be able to satisfy most people's demands in this weight category.

My new F-150

Pros - Plenty of standard features, nice ride quality, gas mileage

Cons - Power, plastic interior

Best price, best reliability! F-150 has been leading the pack for more than a decade when it comes to trucks for a reason. and all that at a good price! As far as my Lairat is concerned, I should have gone with the bigger engine option instead of the 2.7L motor. It lacks power for my taste. Other than that, there is nothing It has plenty of standard features, solid build quality, and great reliability, I would change about my truck

The bling machine

Pros - "Roomy rear seats in SuperCrew models Potent optional engines"

Cons - "Low-rent interior materials Frustrating touch-screen infotainment system"

Good 5 seater mini SUV Love how easily it drives for a large vehicle. Interior is very nice and with the back seats up there is plenty of inside storage. Lots of power and more features like the trailer brake assist than I will probably use. Sale was handled by Martin Sorrentino who was very helpful and knowledgeable. I was in and out in great time. I even got a courtesy phone call the next day thanking me for my purchase. I highly recommend this dealership.

F150 supercab

Pros - Trailer brake control, cruise control, reverse camera

Cons - Stock headlamps

Various drive modes make it a very good truck in every situation while you are hauling cargo or driving along to destination. Needs a lot of attention when driving in tight situations other than that it is a perfect companion. Just got the trailer brake control and nothing else as they are priced high Dark color seat for less time in cleaning and looks decent even if you dont get them cleaned for long duration Plain basic truck but still looks good being the base trim and not fancy stuff I know it is a safe truck as Ford dont cut corners with safety regardless of the trim you buy. Enough warranty to go tention free and pocket friendly for 3 years minimum Around $40k for this worktruck Need better and friendly people
