Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Anytime there's a redesigned Ford F-150, it's kind of a big deal- Edmunds

The 2021 Ford F-150 diesel SuperCrew, now in its fourteenth generation, gets completely redesigned in order to keep up with its rivals. Its exterior turns up the heat with new front fascia styling. The potent diesel engine has good gas mileage and towing ratings in its class. The cabin of the F-150 raises up the bar with the better build quality and use of materials. The all-new F-150 lacks safety ratings but gets the best safety technologies right from the base model, which is really impressive.

The lease price of the 2021 F-150 diesel SuperCrew starts from $552 per month for 36 months. A downpayment of $4,667 has to be paid at the time of signing the lease deal. The 2021 F-150 can also be financed with an APR rate of 5.9% for up to 84 months. When it comes to ownership costs, you may have to shell out around $12,900 per year for its repair, maintenance, fuel, depreciation, etc. Speaking of mileage, the 2021 F-150 can run up to 7.08 miles for every dollar you spend.

2021 Ford F-150 diesel SuperCrew Pricing and Features

Enhanced standard features on the 2021 F-150 complement an options list as long as some luxury models- The Car Connection

The 2021 Ford F-150 diesel SuperCrew is offered in a total of five trims levels namely XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum. All the trims levels can only be had with a 4WD configuration when equipped with the diesel engine. Also with the diesel engine, you do not get the range-topping Limited trim available, which is only exclusive for the hybrid and petrol powertrains. Pricing for these trims range between $45,825 to $65,885, plus a $1,695 destination charge.

Wheel options for the 2021 F-150 include 17,18, 20 & 22-inch wheels depending on the trim levels. Likewise, the F-150 gets cloth and leather upholstery. On the technology front, an 8-inch screen is standard on the lower trims while the higher trims get the 12-inch screen. Both screens support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Similarly, a 6-speaker stereo's sound quality is okay but the 8-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium audio system on the higher trims is really worth money.

2021 Ford F-150 diesel SuperCrew Buying Advice

The redesigned Ford F-150 diesel SuperCrew is definitely one of the best buys in its segment. We recommend the Lariat trim as it offers the best mixture of features and technology at an affordable price point. This trim adds power-adjustable front leather seats with heated and ventilated functions, remote start, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, dual 12-inch screens, and adjustable tie-down cleats. We also suggest the $750 Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 package that adds Evasive Steering Assist, Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, and many more.

2021 Ford F-150 diesel SuperCrew Engine and Performance

Beyond powertrains, the new F-150 drives with a sophisticated demeanor- Autotrader

The engine in the 2021 Ford F-150 diesel SuperCrew is the 3.0L turbo-diesel V6 engine that produces 250 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque. The engine comes mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and comes standard with a 4WD configuration. No short of power at all and with massive torque, the F-150 can pull a maximum of 11,400 pounds. The engine has a very strong low-end grunt and it loves being pulled hard and strong. The gearbox behaves smoothly with no major glitches.

2021 Ford F-150 Diesel SuperCrew engine

The 2021 F-150 feels and rides like a full-size truck but it's actually still fairly compliant. Also, towing or carrying heavy loads doesn't affect the ride comfort at all. The steering does not have the best feedback as opposed to some of the other pickups in this class. But one positive thing to that is it's fairly easy to maneuver, which is essential while parking. In terms of off-road performance, the 2021 F-150's off-road capability is good but the optional off-road packages will kick off for the best results.

2021 Ford F-150 diesel SuperCrew sprints from 0-60 MPH in 7.3 secs

Acceleration is not the strongest cue of the F-150 but it does just fine. The 0-60 MPH sprint is covered in 7.3 seconds, which is good for a truck weighing more than 5,000 lbs. Furthermore, the quarter-mile run is finished in 15.5 seconds while the top speed is limited to 125 MPH. Speaking of brakes, the 2021 F-150 is fitted with 13.8-inch rotors in the front and 13.7-inch at the back. These strong brakes take 127 feet of braking distance while stopping from 60-0 MPH.

Having the same engines equipped under their hood, the GM siblings reach 60 MPH from a standstill in 7 seconds, which is the best here. But the Sierra stays behind the Silverado in the quarter-mile run. Their towing and payload capabilities are the least in this class. Thanks to its quick-shifting gearbox, the F-150 finds its place below the Sierra. The 260-hp RAM 1500 is the slowest among its rivals but has the best towing and payload ratings

The next most efficient F-150 is the diesel- Carbuzz

Ford has been really consistent with regards to the fuel economy of the 2021 Ford F-150 diesel SuperCrew. The EPA-estimated fuel ratings are 20 MPG in the city, 27 MPG on the highway, and 23 MPG combined. Comparatively, the F-150 offers good city and highway ranges as well. However, the RAM 1500 is the only truck here whose driving ranges exceed that of the F-150.

Meanwhile, the F-150 stands in the last place due to the 1 MPG combined difference with RAM.

2021 Ford F-150 diesel SuperCrew Exterior

There are 11 grilles and three different headlight designs- Kelly Blue Book

Ford has done some changes to the exterior of the 2021 Ford F-150 diesel SuperCrew to make it look aggressive and striking as always. It isn't easy to spot the new styling but there are a few cues, most notably on the front end. The popular C-channel LED running lights now extend down into the front bumper. The hood is lower and at a different angle than the outgoing model. There are a bunch of new grilles as well meant to differentiate between the five different trims levels. Likewise, the 2021 F-150  sits on 17, 18, 20, and 22-inch polished alloy wheels depending on the trim levels.

The dimensions of the 2021 F-150 remain the same. Looking at the side profile, its wheelbase is generously sized, which indirectly reflects its interior room. But its ride height is the best here. It is 9.4 inches higher from the ground and will be perfect for all your off-road adventures. The body size gets immigrated to rear arch flares and there are new taillights and tailgate designs. At the back, there's a little bit of a redesign but it still looks very similar. Overall, the 2021 F-150 is still very similar without being polarizing but just enough to be modern.

But, the wheelbase of the GMC Sierra 1500 and the Silverado measures 2 inches wider, which means better rear legroom. The RAM 1500, on the other hand, is the longest pickup truck here with 232.9 inches. Some other exterior highlights are mentioned below:

The 2021 F-150 awaits crash-test results, but its standard active safety features help it avoid a crash- The Car Connection

The 2021 Ford F-150 diesel SuperCrew has not been crash-tested by the NHTSA whereas the IIHS only evaluated its roof strength and gave a 'Good' rating. Since the 2021 F-150 has stepped into a new generation, we are not considering the safety ratings of the previous model years. However, we expect the vehicle to follow the same ratings scored by its predecessors.

Ford understands the importance of safety for its consumers and hence, it has loaded the 2021 F-150 with a top-notch suite of safety technologies. The base XL trim comes with just three driver aids but as you climb the trim ladder, the safety features list keeps on extending. 2021 Ford F-150 diesel SuperCrew Competition

2021 Ford F-150 diesel SuperCrew vs 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 diesel Crew Cab

The initial price of the Chevy Silverado 1500 diesel Crew Cab is around $2,700 more than the F-150. Its turbo-diesel engine makes 27 hp more than the F-150 and hence, performance numbers are the best in this competition. But, it cannot beat the latter in terms of towing capacity as the ratings differ by almost 3,000 lbs. The Silverado is widely appreciated for its spacious interior and class-leading cargo volume. Both the trucks offer a good list of safety features but the Silverado's good safety ratings make it a safer option.

2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 diesel Crew Cab

2021 Ford F-150 diesel SuperCrew vs 2021 RAM 1500 diesel Crew Cab

When it comes to price, the RAM 1500 diesel Crew Cab is slightly cheaper than the F-150. Although it makes more power, its performance numbers are slower than the F-150. But, it offers the segment-best towing and payload capacities. The RAM 1500 shares the same fuel tank capacity as the F-150 but flaunts better MPG figures and driving range. The passenger and cargo space offered in the RAM 1500 is pretty much the same as the F-150. The RAM 1500 is also honored with the 'IIHS Top Safety Pick' award for its safety.

2021 Ram 1500 diesel Crew Cab

2021 Ford F-150 diesel SuperCrew vs 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 diesel SuperCrew

The GMC Sierra 1500 diesel Crew Cab's starting price is the highest in this s segment. It is the mechanical twin of the Silverado and hence, its performance, tow rating,  fuel economy, interior dimensions, and cargo capacity matches the Silverado. However, when it comes to interior quality, the Sierra makes use of better materials than the F-150. The number of comfort features offered in the Sierra is more than the F-150. Due to the lack of the F-150's safety ratings, it is safe to assume that the Sierra is a safer vehicle.

The engine does feel a bit clattery at idle and at higher revs. This truck is not that far off from regualr family SUvs when it comes to comfort and tech as well. All the basic stuff including a nice and big screen with all smartphone connectivity comes as standard in this one.Seats on boat the row are big and comfy although the ride gets a bit bouncy at times. The bed is very big and accomdating but carrying luggage like bags on rainy days might be an issue here. Mike Routt is an amazing salesman and was able to make the process painless while also giving me the best deal possible.

It's a Ford

Pros - Great efficiency, keyless ignition, roomy interiors

Cons - Nothing bad to talk about here

Features different driving modes for better fuel efficiency or throttle response based on what I would need at any given point of time Keyless entry is a very innovative feature. This is the time I have it in my car and I love how you don't have to worry about using your key or even getting it out of your pocket. Despite it being a super cab, it still feels refreshed and roomy on the inside including the space at back. This truck has impressed me with that Ford emblem on the flat black grille at front and aggressive boxy design language Took me a while to get used to all these advanced driver assistance features like dynamic hitch guidance and blind spot warnings. I think I've got it now Didn't give me reasons to not call it reliable $43k of pricing, the features are absolutely endless My Dealership gave me a significant discount and best customer service

Mixed bag

Pros - Robust exterior, features

Cons - Engine Noise

It’s been a mixed bag for me, I’m happy with the acceleration but not with the engine noise. The power delivery is linear but the transmission is not smooth. Particularly when you change gears the transmission makes a CLANK noise which is not pleasant. I took it to the dealership, they fixed it but after some time it started again. Except this, I’m very happy with the way it has performed so far. It’s been a mixed bag for me, I’m happy with the acceleration but not with the engine noise. The power delivery is linear but the transmission is not smooth. I’m very impressed with the features Ford has put in. But for me, the cherry on the cake is their SYNC 3. It is just great to have, easy to use and makes accessing all those controls less like a task. The 8-inch screen looks great too. Very happy with what Ford has done in the interior. The legroom and headroom are plenty and so is storage space. The woodgrain trim accent looks top-notch and ambient light just great. This is where Ford has scored the highest according to me. The design is just extraordinary and shows what the truck is capable of. The DRL’s look cool and are the highlight of the whole design. The build quality is one of the strongest points of an F-150, then there are a lot of features as well like blind-spot monitoring, rear cameras, and airbags. I have read that a few people faced issues with their transmission but mine has been working fine till now. Leased it for 36 months. The salesperson was impolite and was not very thoughtful other than that the whole experience was smooth and fast.

No good

Not even 1,200 miles on the odometer and I have visited dealership twice. The reason being the faulty powertrain. The engine just comes to a halt without any warning which is very dangerous. I was on the highway, doing no more than 60mph and the truck just stopped working which was very scary.
