The Ford F-150, one of the best-selling vehicles in the United States, got a full design overhaul for the 2021 model year. This year also marked the arrival of the PowerBoost V6 hybrid engine. So it is highly likely that the 2022 Ford F-150 is bound to be a carryover model in many ways. This light-duty, full-size pickup is offered as Regular Cab, SuperCab and SuperCrew models, with three different bed sizes.

Currently, the price of the 2021 Ford F-150 Regular Cab starts at an MSRP of $28,940. So the 2022 F-150 Regular Cab could come with a starting price of under $30,000 as well. On the 2021 F-150, however, buyers have the option to choose from 6 different powertrains. That could change with the arrival of the 2022 Ford Raptor-R stocking a 5.2L supercharged V8 from the Mustang Shelby GT500.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

"Consistently among the top-selling vehicles in the U.S., the Ford F-150 is an iconic full-size pickup truck." - MotorTrend

Ford also announced the electric variant of the F-150. It will be visually identical to the current variants, except the grille on the F-150 EV will look different as no radiator will be needed. Ford is claiming that this would be the most powerful electric truck on the market. Until then, the 2022 Ford F-150 finds its usual competition in the GMC Sierra 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

2022 Ford F-150 Pricing and Features

The Ford F-150 is available with a total of six engine options spread across six trim levels; XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. However, the Ford F-150 Regular Cab is limited to just two trims- XL and XLT. The 2022 Ford F-150 XL Regular Cab could start from $30,000 and the price for XLT trim can go up to $36,000.

The 2021 models of the same cost $28,940 and $35,050 respectively. Both the trims are available in rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. The features list on the F-150 Regular Cab is truly mesmerizing, more so after the update it received entering its 14th generation.

2022 Ford F-150 Buying Advice

Since the Ford F-150 Regular Cab is available in two trims only, customers have a limited choice depending on the budget and application. We recommend going for the 2022 F-150 XLT Regular Cab. The base XL trim is considerably bare bones and skips on many convenience features which are justified considering the pricing.

2022 Ford F-150 Engine and Performance

"Based on the freshly redesigned 2021 F-150, the 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor should bring better performance, more tech, and-if rumors prove true-an optional supercharged V-8." - RoadAndTrack.Com

The 2022 F-150 Regular Cab will come with the 3.3L turbocharged V6 making 290hp as standard. The transmission ought to be the same 10-Speed Auto with 2WD and 4WD drivetrain options as well. With the base 3.3L V6 engine, the F-150 takes 7.3 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph.

The F-150 pickup truck takes 13.2 seconds to cover a quarter-mile lap. It also achieves a top speed of 130 mph, which is decent for a vehicle of this size. But the most important job for a pickup is to excel at hauling cargo. This is where the F-150 Regular Cab really shines.

With its maximum tow rating of 8,200 pounds, the F-150 turns up as the most capable Regular Cab among the likes of GMC Sierra 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500. As of now, both these corporate cousins can tow a maximum of 7,900 pounds. But considering how the Sierra 1500 will replace its base powertrain for the year 2022, that could change as well.

2022 Ford F-150 Fuel Economy

With the base 3.3L V6, the Ford F-150 earns 20 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highways. Opting for 4x4 F-150 drops the mpg ratings to 19 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. When paired with the 23-gallon fuel tank, the Ford F-150 is able to provide a combined driving range of 483 miles, which is class-leading.

In comparison to the rivals, the all-new 2022 GMC Sierra manages to surpass the F-150. It now uses a smaller capacity four-cylinder engine, which not only makes more power but also turns up as a lot more fuel-efficient choice than the previously standard 4.3L V6. With the newly standard 2.7L turbo-four, the 2022 Sierra 1500 can return a combined range of 504 miles.

2022 Ford F-150 Interior

"Featuring a healthy list of practical and luxury upgrades over the previous generation, the F-150 is available in a variety of trims that range from basic to luxurious." - Edmunds

The Ford F-150 Regular Cab is marketed as a work truck with great hauling abilities, and from the outside, it sure looks like one. But the interior of the F-150 Regular Cab is far from utilitarian. The 2021 Ford F-150 Regular Cab has got a completely redesigned interior and we hope to see that on the 2022 F-150 Regular Cab too. The interior inside this truck is sick, except for the base trim level.

The base trim level will get you cloth seats that look and feel cheap. There are options to choose from if you want a small third seat in the front or a usual center console that will have your gear selector, cup holders, and some storage space. The driver-side hand rest unfolds and becomes a small work table if you wish to work on your laptop or simply eat lunch. Overall, the interior is well balanced between utility and comfort.

Last year, the Ford F-150 received an upgraded infotainment system, which is likely to be carried forward to the 2022 model. The F-150 infotainment comprises an 8.0-inch central touchscreen and a 4.0-inch digital instrument cluster that comes standard. There's an option for a 12.0-inch touchscreen with two larger digital instrument clusters, measuring 8.0 inches and 12.3 inches, respectively.

The latest Sync 4 infotainment includes features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and AppLink. Facilitating the buyers further, Ford also offers a downloadable FordPass Connect app, helping you to take control of the vehicle remotely. It allows users to lock or unlock the vehicle, check usage stats, and schedule remote start timing.

The Ford F-150 Regular Cab has outside lamps on all 4 sides to illuminate the area around your truck in the dark. The cargo bed of the Ford F-150 Regular Cab is power-operated and can be opened with your key fob. The tailgate of the F-150 Regular Cab is a workbench quite literally.

On the left side of the tailgate, there are small slots to keep your pens or pencils while you are working and a deep slot to keep your Smartphone. The Ford F-150 Regular Cab has one of the best cargo bed access systems. Push a button on top of the tailgate and a step ladder comes out for easy access into the cargo bed.

But climbing inside a high cargo bed without something to hold on to might cause accidents. There is a railing pole provided inside the tailgate itself to hold onto. Some of the notable exterior features of the 2022 Ford F-150 are:

  • 17-Inch Silver Steel Wheels
  • Hooks - Front Tow, Two (4x4 Only)
  • Spare Tire Carrier - Rear Underframe
  • Fully-Boxed, High-Strength Steel Frame
  • Tailgate, Key Lock
  • Cargo Lamp, Integrated with Center High-Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL)
  • Daytime Running Lamps

2022 Ford F-150 Regular Cab VS 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Regular Cab

The latest 14th generation Ford F-150 is way better in every sense compared to the GMC Sierra 1500. Therefore, buying a 2022 Ford F-150 will always be a good idea. There's a significant upgrade for F-150, including maximized capability, improved interior, and standard technology features. Also, the F-150 has a better towing capacity than the Sierra 1500. However, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is going to be more luxurious from the inside and offer a richer cabin experience.

2022 Ford F-150 Regular Cab VS 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The Chevy Silverado has always been sitting on top charts in terms of sales figures. Both the trucks offer good value for money aspects in terms of performance, capability, pricing, and safety features. However, the Ford F-150 takes the bite in terms of fuel economy. The competition is tough here, so a personal preference would only work in this case.

2022 Ford F-150 Final Verdict

The 2022 Ford F-150 Regular Cab is expected to arrive at the dealerships late this year, most probably, the second half of 2021. The 2022 Ford F-150 Regular Cab will be available in two trim choices, the XL and XLT. The XL trim could start at $30,000 and the XLT Trim can go up to $36,000. That’s quite a lot of price difference but Ford has made available various options to configure the F-150 Regular Cab without jacking up the price way too much.

2021 Ford F-150

Pros - Good mileage, has a big touch screen, Smooth ride

Cons - Comfort, speaker system is not good, acceleration can be better

My new truck Let’s be honest here, it is nothing extraordinary. Ford F-150 is normal just like any other truck on the road. It has nothing new to offer. I appreciate the big screen and good gas mileage but those are not rare nowadays. The smooth ride quality was an added bonus I was not prepared for. All in all, F-150 is your day-to-day, daily driving truck. There a lot of ford dealerships around the country and each one of them is better than Napleton Ford of Libertyville. They are just a bunch of scammers. All they care about is the money and sale. They do not care what you like or dislike.
