The Ford F-150 pick up truck has been around for ages and has become a poster boy for all full-sized American trucks. The truck has been one of the best-selling vehicles in America because of its low-cost, high reliability, easy on the pocket and the versatile nature of this vehicle. In its 2017 model body, the F-150 is more opulent than ever while staying true to its roots. The F-150 is the second-most important vehicle for Ford, after the model T.

The F-150 accounts for around one-third of Ford's US sales, and this is thanks to the kind of package the F-150 comes equipped with. Loaded with a base or an uprated V-6 engine with multiple powertrains to choose amongst and available in both long bed and short bed variants, there are a lot of options on the 2017 Ford F-150, and one of them is bound to suit your needs. The truck also has one of the highest towing capacities in the market. The best-in-class truck has been challenged by some of the equally capable machines offered by companies like NissanChevy and Toyota.

F-150 Regular Cab

Pros - High towing and payload capacities.Offers strong and reasonably quick performance across its range of engines. Increased off road ability.

Cons - Rough Ride. Low fuel economy. A Heavy car

The punch of power "It has a boxy design but the front appears to me as a bit dull and bored. may be due to dull black present almost everywhere.3.5 litre V6 engine producing 325 HP and about 400 lb ft. torque. Driver centric 12 inch information display and 12 inch infotainment screen The touch of chrome on bumpers and grille surrounds make the tough design look more elegant." My Ranger sometimes needs repair due too much of hauling and towing. Its bolts and nuts need fastening. The people at Hill Country Ford have given me a special discount.

The best utility truck.

Pros - Fuel efficient, powerful engine, robust

Cons - Not that comfortable, rust on loading bed

Pure work horse Really fuel efficient and dependable truck. I have been using it as my work truck for quite some years now and it had faired quite well. I have not really replaced anything except the a couple of pairs of tires and front brake pads. Just do the ususal maintenance and it keeps running all good. When it comes to comfort I'll rate it just average as the ride tends to get a bit bouncy when you have nothing loaded. Also the radio is not the best and sounds teeny. I have a lot of scuff and rust on the bed from previous loadings. Shame that it does not come with a bed liner from factory. Had a pleasant experince working with the guys at the service there. I really do't remember much about the purchase, but I believe it must have been a zero fuss experince, knowing the guys more now and how they work their way.

Regular Cab

Pros - "Below-average ownership costs Nimbler handling than most trucks Above-average maximum towing capacity"

Cons - Less-upscale cabin than rivals;

Nimble Handling The panoramic sunroof and the interior are my favourite feature, as contrasted with my Camaro room before the F-150. A vehicle that's really competent. Much to hauling power. The interior seems stronger than Toyota's vehicles, with a superior quality. It was the simplest transaction I've ever completed. I told them what I wanted and we collaborated until it was completed. When I need another car, I'll look there. They never discovered anything wrong with me when I expressed my difficulties to them.

All the luxury and added niceties have sprung this Ford into an even higher realm of the truck world. Unfortunately, the price tag has seen a nudge too, but the 2017 Ford F-150 still remains on the top spot. Loaded with a V6 engine on the base model, the F-150 carries a price tag of $27,110 for the base model. This makes it one of the most affordable trucks out there. The F-150 does not only boast about the power under its hood, but also the comfortable interiors that do provide a great experience of driving this truck. The truck is highly fuel efficient as well, and the lighest one in the class as well. The F-150 faces steam from the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, the Nissan Titan and the Toyota Tundra. These rivals are the strongest ones against the F-150 and offer similar performance, interior and capabilities.

The XLT trim is the one you should look out for if you want any sort of passenger comfort in your truck. The XL variant focuses more on the work aspects of the truck rather than luxury and thus the additional features available with the XLT improves the overall experience of driving this truck. Based on your requirements, you can opt for the Long Base or Short Base variant of the XLT as the only difference between the two is the bed length.

The engine duty on the Ford F-150 is done by a 3.5L turbo V-6 motor paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The engine is good to produce 282 hp and 253 lb-ft of torque. The engine pulls from a standstill in a very calm fashion but struggles to get to highway speeds. In comparison with rivals, the Nissan Titan S and the Toyota Tundra SR are both over 300 hp and are much more powerful than the Ford F-150.

The Ford F-150 has the smallest engine in the competition and thus lacks in terms of power output for the base engine when compared to its rivals. The 2017 Nissan Titan S has the highest power output in this comparison, which is followed by the Toyota Tundra. If you wish to get more out of your F-150 you can choose from the better tuned 3.5-liter turbocharged engine which gives a much better power output.

How quick is the 0-60 mph acceleration of the 2017 Ford F-150 Regular Cab?

When it comes to rapid acceleration, pickup trucks are the last thing that you associate it with. The Ford F-150 is certainly not a road scorcher but it is not a slouch either. The truck does a 0-60 mph run in a 7.3 second flat, which is certainly considerate at the very least. Even if it is not the quickest in the initial acceleration, it makes up for it in the quarter-mile acceleration and covers the distance in 13.2 seconds, which is the quickest in the competition.

The Nissan titan S is the slowest of them all which takes around 9.3-seconds to reach the 60 mph mark

How is the Handling and Braking performance of the 2017 Ford F-150 Regular Cab?

The 2017 Ford F-150 is perhaps the best handling truck in its segment. It is prone to body roll and a bouncy ride like all other trucks but it handles these obstructions rather well. The truck can zoom past corners at moderately high speeds without being too uncomfortable for the passengers.

The brakes on the F-150 features a set of 13.8-inch rotors in the front and 13.7-inch rotors in the rear. The brakes have a confident feeling about them, and the pedals are not too spongy and feature just the right amount of travel.

What is the Towing and Payload Capacity of the 2017 Ford F-150 Regular Cab?

Towing capacity is definitely the deciding factor with work trucks for a lot of people. The Ford F-150 has an official towing capacity of 9,100 lbs. The car does feel under stress when at the higher end of the limit but does well with the moderate amount of load tucked at the back.

The fuel economy on the Ford-150 is modest, to say the least. Being a full-size pick-up truck, there are not many expectations regarding the fuel economy of the F-150. Yet it provides us with a decent mileage of 18 mpg in the city, which improves to 20 mpg in the city. The car returns gas mileage of 25 mpg combined which is actually much better than the rivals in the same segment.

Cabin comfort is where the 2017 Ford F-150 excels. The quality of materials that are used inside the cabin feels very premium for a pick-up truck. The front seats are nicely bolstered and feature an optimum level of padding. On the rear end, there is enough legroom for even the taller folks, and being a truck, headroom is never a concern.

2017 Ford F-150 Safety

8.5/10

The Ford F-150 is one of the hot-selling vehicles for the manufacture, and Ford has ensured that the sales are not let down by substandard safety measures. The truck has been well equipped with a host of safety features that ensure the safety of passengers at all times. The car has already been tested by the NHTSA and has scored a perfect 5 stars in almost all of the categories. Here is a list of the safety features available in the 2017 Ford F-150 Regular Cab:

  • Airbags
  • AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control and Curve Control
  • Alert chimes for headlamps-on, key-in-ignition, and front safety belts
  • Belt-Minder front safety belt reminder
  • Brake/shift interlock
  • Fuel pump inertia shutoff
  • Individual Tire Pressure Monitoring System (excludes spare)
  • SOS Post-Crash Alert System
  • Trailer Sway Control

2017 Ford F-150 Competition

8.8/10

Nissan Titan vs Ford F-150

The Nissan Titan is a full-size heavy-duty truck. The Titan certainly falls shorts on looks when compared to the rivals like the F-150. However, the car features a tried and tested rugged V8 engine that is known for its bomb-proof reliability, and the base price even with options is fairly considerate. The Nissan Titan is a capable vehicle, but it still falls short of the Ford F-150 as a truck overall.

Chevy Silverado vs Ford F-150

The Chevy Silverado is one of the more traditional looking trucks amongst the rivals. The vehicle features a rock-solid and sturdy build. The cabin is nice to look at and even comfortable for the passengers. But, the Ford F-150 is certainly the more modern vehicle both inside and outside while the Silverado is a more traditional vehicle.

Toyota Tundra vs Ford F-150

The Toyota Tundra is one of the most reliable trucks out there in the market. The interior quality on the truck is far superior to a lot of trucks in the segment. Even when it comes to the looks department, the Toyota looks fairly modern and pleasing to the eye from all angles, making it a more attractive offering between the two.

2017 Ford F-150 Final Verdict

The Ford F-150 is the best selling pickup truck in America for a long time and for good reason. The vehicle features a brilliant interior set up. The power stats are also up to the mark. But, luxury interiors come at a premium price. The car has the tendency to get expensive, with optional packages real fast. There are a lot of trims to choose from, and there is certainly at least one that will suit you at your price.
