The Dodge Durango SRT is the cheapest performance SUV you can get today that offers seating for six. It packs in performance along with practicality which not a lot of SUVs of today can offer. Today, the SUV faces stiff competition from the likes of segment best-sellers like the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT and BMW X5 xDrive M50i. It comes with the  6.4-liter V8 engine producing 475 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque.

The Dodge Durango SRT also features an updated design and improvements to the features inside the cabin. It falls short when it comes to fuel economy. It also lacks the build quality and safety features that are more prominent in modern SUVs.

2021 Dodge Durango SRT SUV Pricing and Features

8.1/10

"For when a two-door muscle car no longer suits your needs, Dodge has just the answer with the 2021 Durango SRT 392." - Car and Driver

The Dodge Durango SRT is a part of the six model lineups, placed at the penultimate position. There are 6 other trims on offer with the SRT Hellcat being the most expensive and top-specced. Hence, Dodge has equipped the Durango SRT with the best that the nameplate has to offer. The price of the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT starts at about $64,490 and it comes only with an all-wheel-drive system.

The price gets a bump up for this year, however, as the 2021 model will be receiving some subtle updates to its exterior looks like unique smoke show starter animation, the unique serpentine font used in Dodge Displays, shift light features, and many more. Whereas, the Hellcat version of the 2021 Durango SRT is pegged much higher than any other car Dodge sells in America - $80,995. All prices exclude a $1,495 destination charge.

2021 Dodge Durango SRT SUV Buying Advice

While there are other trims available in Dodge Durango’s line-up we strongly recommend you stick with the SRT or Street & Racing technology version if you are looking for performance and luxury. In comparison to its rivals, the Durango SRT costs much less than its rivals which includes its corporate cousin the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT that is based on the same FCA platform. With a strong score of 80 out of 100 in the J.D. Power survey, the Durango SRT offers quite a value for its buyers

Is buying a used car Dodge Durango SRT a good idea?

The Dodge Durango SRT does not retain its value quite well unlike some of its other rivals. For the first year, the SUV tends to lose between 15% to 18% of its value in the first year which comes out to be about $22,000. Moreover, the fuel cost of this SRT is also very high, due to its massive V8 engine. What provides slight relief is its maintenance cost which is quite low and shall cost you about $3,678 at the end of 5 years.

The repair costs also remain zero providing further relief due to the limited 3-year warranty. According to the depreciation value, the 2019 model years are the best ones to look out for. The total fitness of the Durango SRT is 12 years, and the 2019 version gives it around 11 more years of perfect usability.

2021 Dodge Durango SRT SUV Engine and Performance

8.0/10

"The rumbling Hemi V-8 under the hood of this three-row SUV makes a healthy 475 horsepower and propels this big Dodge to 60 mph in a fleet 4.7 seconds. " - Car and Driver

The 2021 Dodge Durango SRT carries over its astonishing V8 engine which is not at all bad. This means that the 2021 SRT model will also be powered by a 6.4-liter V8 engine producing 475 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. This is the same unit that is also used by the Grand Cherokee SRT which is mated to an 8-Speed Automatic gearbox. The gear shifts are precise and manage all the power very efficiently to provide the utmost performance at all times.

2021 Dodge Durango SRT SUV Engine

The engine of the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT, as always feels quite sporty and the automatic transmission works like a charm especially when it comes to downshifting. The Durango SRT also offers a paddle shifter to take things under your control but the most loved feature on offer is the launch control. Overall, the V8 motor is quite capable of dealing with everything you throw at it with highway cruising and overtaking being its forte.

The Dodge Durango SRT’s 6.4-liter engine bests the Mercedes-Benz and BMW’s engine output and offers the maximum power to price ratio. It settles with a tie when it comes to the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT which essentially gets the same engine and the platform as the Durango. Being a muscle SUV, the 2021 Durango SRT is meant for drag races and even offers a launch control to make your rivals eat some dust. However, as the SUV is heavier than its corporate cousin, the Grand Cherokee SRT, it takes longer to reach 60 mph even though it gets the same engine and power output. It manages to reach 60-0 mph in 4.8 seconds which is 0.4 seconds slower than the Jeep.

2021 Dodge Durango SRT SUV Accelerate 0-60 MPH in 4.8 sec

Being a heavyweight performance SUV, the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT showcases decent braking capabilities. Although the Durango SRT is not the best amongst its competitors, it still runs in tandem with the segment. The 2021 Dodge Durango SRT can come to a complete halt from 60 MPH in a mere 114 ft, which is none less than impressive for a vehicle of such aesthetics. Grand Cherokee SRT’s 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds bests the X5 xDrive M50i and AMG GLE 43 alike. The Mercedes AMG GLE 43 is the slowest car among the cars under review, which is due to its lesser power output and lower torque on offer. However, all cars in this comparison offer all-wheel drive as standard with the launch control only being available in the Jeep and the Dodge.

Being an SRT, the Durango does not let you down in terms of handling as well. Although it is an SUV, it still manages to stick to the tight bends just enough to not let you crash, and remains very stable at high-speed cruising. In a straight line, the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT feels mean and performance-packed as compared to the rivals. The ride of the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT is also very composed. It absorbs the abnormalities of the road with utter ease and the high ground clearance means that it makes even the remote destinations easily accessible. At the same time, the Durango SRT also feels compact in the city and can be easily used as a daily driver as well.

"The Durango concerns itself with fuel efficiency like Earth concerns itself with humans: It doesn’t." - The Car Connection

As mentioned before the Dodge Durango SRT is no fuel-efficient machine. Hence, it offers the worst fuel economy in its segment alongside the Grand Cherokee SRT. The 2021 Dodge Durango SRT offers an EPA estimated mileage of just 15 MPG combined with 13mpg in the city and 19mpg on the highway. However, With its 24.6-gallon fuel tank, it manages to provide at par fuel efficiency when compared to its rivals.

Looking at the rivals, it’s just the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT which offers the same poor fuel efficiency while the other two rivals get better scores. Ironically, the other two rivals, the BMW X5 M50ialso offer the same exact fuel efficiency with their smaller but turbocharged motors.

"This Dodge's interior quality is merely adequate in the base model and becomes more upscale in some higher trims. " - Cars.US.News

The new interior on the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT continues to deliver uncompromised utility, advanced technology, and aggressive styling. The SRT's cabin is no bad place to be in as it offers spacious, practical, and upmarket interiors. Its best selling point is the space for seating seven people. The cabin comes with a six-passenger configuration as standard including a second-row captain's chair, while you can always replace it with a three-seater bench. Its front and second-row seats are quite supportive and offer excellent legroom.

2021 Dodge Durango SRT SUV Cockpit Area

The interior is well-equipped and features top-notch materials with a soft-touch dashboard and leather upholstery. The third row of seats is a hit or miss as they are only suitable for kids or smaller adults. The SUV offers a commanding view of the road up ahead with its overall visibility being good. In comparison to its rivals, the Dodge Durango SRT offers quite a lot of features inside its cabin like the adaptive Cruise Control, Auto-Dimming Inside Rear-View Mirror, Optional Powered Sunroof, and Optional rear DVD entertainment center.

That number grows to 43.3 cubes behind the second row, and a maximum of 85 cubic feet with both rear rows folded flat. Overall, its cabin offers good value but lacks behind its European rivals when it comes to offering opulence on the inside. Unlike its predecessors, the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT offers an Uconnect 5 with a 10.1-inch infotainment display with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and Alpine premium audio with nine speakers. Its interface remains futuristic and intuitive to use. The display is high resolution and offers crisp fronts and details.

2021 Dodge Durango SRT SUV Infotainment System

The infotainment interface is quite user-friendly and offers lag-free performance. Being the top-specced trim it features navigation, and SiriusXM satellite radio, other than Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The 2021 Durango SRT is equipped with a 10.1-in. touchscreen display instead of the current 8.4-inch unit on the base model.

2021 Dodge Durango SRT SUV Exterior

8.1/10

"All 2021 Durango models get a small exterior design update and the result is an SUV that's fresher and more attractive than before." - CNET

Exterior styling refinements to the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT shall remain more or less the same with the SUV offering some additional exterior elements and a sharper-looking body kit. Its styling has designed has been unchanged for years now but is loved by many due to its tough-truck appeal. It still manages to grab quite a lot of eye-balls, especially with the SRT body kit.

The macho muscle SUV looks are engraved into Durango’s DNA and it offers quite an imposing stance from every angle. Its sculpted line and hood scoops give it a more sporty look with the big blacked-out grille at the front. The SRT model removes the chrome-laden look that some of the Durango’s trims offer and goes for a more sporty but reserved look.

Hence the Durango is the best SUV if you are looking for a road presence with BMW X5 m50i taking the second spot.

2021 Dodge Durango SRT SUV Safety

7.4/10

"Poor crash-test scores and limited driver assistance features might put the brakes on buying the 2021 Dodge Durango."- The Car Connection

Well, you must be thinking what is the trade-off for the cheaper price of the Dodge Durango SRT? Well, the trade-off is safety to some extent as the SUV gets 4 scores out of 5 in the NHSTA crash tests. The previous generation of the Durango also scored the same stars for overall safety. Its three-star for rollover is one of the worst in its segment.

With the IIHS crash testing, similar results were found and the car managed a Marginal score for both the driver’s side small front overlap and headlights. The Durango SRT offers features such as automatic emergency braking, active lane control, lane-departure warnings, and adaptive cruise control as standard.

2021 Dodge Durango SRT Vs 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT

Both the Grand Cherokee SRT and the Dodge Durango SRT are based on the same platform and also offer the same exact engine. However, when you compare the two, the Grand Cherokee SRT comes out on top. It has a faster 0-60 mph time and is lighter than the Dodge making it accelerate and handle better. They are also similarly priced with the Grand Cherokee edging out the Dodge.

2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT

2021 Dodge Durango SRT Vs 2021 BMW X5 xDrive M50i

The BMW X5 M50i is arguably the most driver-focused car in this comparison. It offers quick performance along with many performance aides that help this SUV feel more like a regular car. However, once you put it in the sport mode, it turns into a track bending machine and offers the best fun to drive experience behind the wheel. It also offers a more premium and an upmarket cabin when compared to the Durango SRT. However, the Durango SRT has two significant advantages, which are the price and the third-row seats. The SRT also costs much less than the BMW and hence offers a better value for your price.

Pros - Track settings for everything_that it is an SRT_brakes

Cons - Instrument cluster maybe?

We got ourselves an SRT and we can't seem to get enough of it Once everything like steering, throttle, suspension, stability etc is set to track, it's real potential is unleashed. Named as SRT, it really brings off the title. What's more impressive are the high performance brembos locking those wheels (ofcourse not literally) and it comes back to halt like, yawn, as if it never went past 70. It's not about the features, trust me. SRT is more about pure adrenaline rush and nimble footed tires screeching drives With third row deleted, it's more agile and handles even better than the one with third row. I know what I'm saying since I TD both. SRT badges on the body justify the styling. Plus, it looks like a beast which is quite compelling High performance brakes fill that box Not sure what you mean by that/ With all the pacakages and optional body coat, the monthly pricing hasn't been what they call thrifty but then, this is an SRT and deserves some hype there on the sticker price Best dealership and I will always come here when looking for a Dodge.

Durango that makes you go WHOA!

Pros - 1) Peppy engine, 2) Impressive handling

Cons - 1) Lack of safety features

It's engaging and exciting in terms of performance and handling, but the price is what I worry about. Healthy 475 HP 6.4L V8 engine with All wheel drive come up with exciting acceleration and traction control. The suspension is well tuned to isolate cabin from shocks of digs and bumps. The drive is composed around corners, but steering response is so-so. The highlight features include 6.4L V8 engine producing 475HP with All wheel drive, blacked 20 inch aluminum wheels, power liftgate, and leather trimmed seating. It incorporates leather trimmed seats with dual memory function to driver's seat, heated sports leather steering wheel, leather shift knob, metal look door panel insert, heated and ventilated front bucket seats and heated rear bucket seats. 20 inch blacked aluminum wheels, chrome tipped dual exhaust, bulbous and montrous LED headlights, black grille with offset SRT badging, and hood scoop portrays a striking muscular look. AWD, all speed traction control and electronic stability control with roll mitigation makes turning easy and safe. It also has front and rear parking sensors for safe parking. Driver and front passenger front and side impact airbags, overhead airbag curtains for all three rows, height adjustable seatbelts with pretensioners, and manual rear child safety locks make us feel all time safe. I found it to be reliable enough, except that if some issues happen its related to engine which is not nice. Starting at $62,995, price is not much justified. My experience there was nice.

Mind blowing acceleration

SRT tag is enough to give an idea about the performance of Durango. V8 under the hood oozes out raw power delivering to all 4 wheels. Right when I floor the pedal, nothing else is needed, no fancy features or climate control(has everything though). I know what I have bought and it gives me exactly what I want in a justified price tag
