When it is all about hauling cargo and people safely, with the Dodge Grand Caravan already dead now, the minivan market is not left with many great options that can drive your taste. However, Chrysler does not disappoint anyone here, the brand’s astonishing presence in the Minivan market is just enough for anyone to get attracted by its vehicles. Affordable pricing, standard performance from the V6 engine, and enough space for the 7 passengers inside the cabin make it a great bargain in the segment.

This year, the vehicle will be back with some minor updates. The 2021 Chrysler Voyager minivan will retain features from last year, but there will be some extra focus on the vehicle’s safety features. Priced at $28,730 the 2021 Chrysler Voyager will be competing against the likes of the Kia Sedona, the Toyota Sienna, and the Honda Odyssey. Read on to find out more about the 2021 Voyager.

Overall Rating

Packed with a 3.6L V6 engine that touches the 287 hp mark on paper, the Chrysler Voyager is an entry level minivan that is based on the much celebrated Chrysler Pacifica. This budget friendly minivan is often considered a cheap version of the Pacifica minivan, however, its cheap price doesn’t translate to downgraded performance, it gets the same refinement and performance while providing ample cargo space and space for seven people. Well, the Chrysler Voyager is not the most comfortable and feature loaded vehicle in the segment which others do offer.

2021 Chrysler Voyager Pricing and Features

Like the previous year, the 2021 Chrysler Voyager will have two trim models in its lineup - the base L, followed by the premium LX. There will also be an LXi model being offered for fleet vehicles alone. All the models get similar mechanical features including the same engine configuration. While the 2021 Voyager L is likely to have an entry price of about $28,730, the LX trim may bear a sticker price of around $30,045. For the LXi (fleet-only) model, the MSRP can go up to $32,995.

The base L trim starts at quite a low price point of around $26,985 and offers decent entertainment and convenience features. Though you can’t expect huge luxury, they are quite sufficient for an entry-level minivan in this range.

The LX model of the Voyager makes your ride a bit more convenient and comfortable with the additions like 8-way power seat adjustments for the driver, lumbar adjustments, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, etc. It has a starting price tag of around $31,540.

2021 Chrysler Voyager Maintenance, Reliability and Warranty

Chrysler Voyager may have a number of strong points behind its name, but reliability is not among those. The brand had seldom received any good ratings in this regard, and that is true for the Voyager as well. As a result, the total cost of ownership may shoot up in the long run, with the possibility of quite a few dealership visits. The vehicle however gets a decent warranty coverage from Chrysler though.

Reliability and Ownership Costs

Fiat Chrysler has been consistently receiving low ratings in terms of their vehicle reliability and dependability. For 2019, JD Power US Vehicle Dependability Study applauded the brand’s significant improvement in terms of lower consumer complaints and placed it at a decent 16th spot, the glory didn’t last long. The 2020 JD Power survey reveals a declining reliability quotient for the brand with it receiving the penultimate position, just one place above from being the most un-reliable brand of the year.

The situation is reflected by the Consumer Reports survey on vehicle reliability, which placed Chrysler at the 19th spot among 30 automakers. For the 2021 Chrysler Voyager too, expectations are not high on this front. The 2020 Chrysler Pacifica, which is technically the same make as the Chrysler Voyager, was regarded as one of the least reliable models by Consumer Reports. The Chrysler Pacifica from which the Voyager carries its genesis, was recalled once by Chrysler and there are 6 consumer complaints recorded in its name.

5 year Ownership and maintenance cost

The overall ownership cost for the Voyager is similarly laid with the rivals. With a reliability index pointing low for this minivan, the repair cost and service cost may shoot up. Having said that, Chrysler offers the Voyager at quite a low entry price indeed. While people in Arizona seem to pay somewhat less for the Voyager, the cost of the Minivan for Washington buyers may be on the higher side.

The Chrysler Voyager may lack a satisfactory reliability factor, but the vehicle’s overall 5-year cost of ownership can be quite competitive. The 2020 Voyager even received the KBB’s “5-Year Cost to Own” Award in its segment. It is predicted that the vehicle could attract a depreciation loss of around $17,988 in 5 years, and the fuel, insurance and other out of pocket expenses during the tenure may reach somewhere around $27,829. These numbers would bring the 5-years ownership cost to around $45,817, that has been noted by KBB.

Warranty

Chrysler provides decent warranty coverage for its Voyager minivan. Its basic limited warranty and powertrain warranty are at par with what most of its rivals offer. The vehicle also gets a 5 year / 60,000 miles 24 hours roadside assistance coverage, which is really helpful. The warranty coverage includes:

Criteria

Period

New Vehicle Limited Warranty

36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever is earlier

Powertrain Warranty

60 months or 60,000 miles, whichever is earlier

Corrosion Perforation

60 months and unlimited distance

Roadside Assistance

60 months or 60,000 miles, whichever is earlier

Among the carmakers, Kia has always been held to be a generous warrantor. In this segment as well, the Kia Sedona overwhelms with its long coverage. It gets a basic 5year / 60,000 miles warranty, while the powertrain is covered for 10 years/100,000 miles. The Chrysler along with most others fails to match these numbers. However, the Voyager gets longer roadside assistance than many of the competitors.

2021 Chrysler Voyager Buying Advice

The Chrysler Voyager consists basically of the two base trims of the Chrysler Pacifica, and as such, there is not much room for the dilemma in selecting your model. The entry-level Voyager L model is really light on your pocket and gets you a number of the basic requirements. But if you can spare a few thousands more, we would recommend the LX model.

The Voyager LX adds a number of comfort and convenience features to those of the base model, like power seat adjustments and lumbar adjustments for the driver, second-row captain’s chair, and even a SiriusXM Satellite Radio. So getting a bit of extra comfort at only a few thousand bucks more does not seem to be a bad option.

Is buying a used Chrysler Voyager Minivan a good idea?

Chrysler Voyager is almost new in its current avatar, with the first model being rolled out only last year. For the 2021 model, the Voyager does not receive any significant updates either. Considering this, you may very well purchase a 2020 Voyager instead of a new one if it’s available at a lower price. The Voyager actually replicates two of the base trims of the Chrysler Pacifica, which means you may also consider a used 2019 model of the Pacifica as well if it offers a decent buy-in price and is well maintained.

2021 Chrysler Voyager Engine and Performance

7.4/10

2021 Chrysler Voyager gets a 3.6-Litre Pentastar V-6 engine in both of the models. The engine is connected to a TorqueFlite 9-speed automatic transmission and makes a maximum of 287 HP and 262 lb-ft. of torque. Both models come with standard front-wheel-drive layout.

Voyager’s 3.6L V6 is an extremely potent and powerful engine for a minivan in its segment. Only the Toyota Sienna gets a better one, while Honda Odyssey comes quite close. However, both these vehicles have a higher Price-to-Power ratio ($106 per HP for the Sienna and $109 per HP for the Odyssey) than the Voyager’s ($94 per HP).

2021 Chrysler Voyager Minivan Acceleration And Braking Performance

The 2021 Chrysler Voyager with the 3.6L V6 engine is quick enough to get the van from 0 to 60 MPH in about 7.2 seconds, while it makes a quarter-mile run in about 15.1 seconds. Though we cannot expect the Voyager to be among the fastest, these numbers are quite decent for a minivan. The front strut suspension and rear trailing arm suspension further make the ride quite smooth even when accelerating quickly.

2021 Chrysler Voyager Minivan

The vehicle uses Disc brakes for all the four wheels. It gets to a stop from 70 MPH in about 165 feet, which is very competitive, and matches most of its rivals in the segment.

Chrysler Voyager, with its 142 MPH of top speed and 7.2 recorded seconds (approx.) stands comfortably among the competitors. The Honda Odyssey, however, returns some of the best numbers in this regard, with a 6.6-sec 0-60MPH run and a 125ft of 60-0MPH stopping distance. The Toyota Sienna is marginally ahead of the Voyager, whereas the Kia Sedona fails to catch up.

2021 Chrysler Voyager Fuel Economy

The Voyager’s engine configuration makes way for some decent fuel economy. The minivan makes around 19 MPG on city roads and 28 MPG on the highways. On a combined level, the mileage is pegged at 23 MPG. The 2021 Chrysler Voyager uses regular unleaded fuel, and its tank has a holding capacity of up to 19 gallons, allowing it to travel for quite a long distance on a full tank.

Voyager is well ahead most of his rivals for the sheer number of miles it can go without visiting a gas station. While the Kia Sedona with its highest tank capacity makes up for its inferior mileage, the Odyssey and Toyota Sienna get average points on this front.

2021 Chrysler Voyager Interior

6.6/10

The Voyager’s interior cannot be classified as among the most high-quality ones, but it certainly serves the purpose. The 2021 Voyager seats 7 persons in three rows. The front seats are quite comfortable with the seat and headrest adjustments. The second-row bench or available quad seats leaves a wide aisle room for getting to the rear. The manual tilt and telescopic steering wheel make driving quite convenient.

2021 Chrysler Voyager Minivan interior design

Apart from that, the cabin gets a standard manual air conditioning with air filtration, even though a dual-zone automatic for the LX and a three-zone manual air conditioning for both the trims are also available. The power door locks, keyless entry, and power windows with express up-down control are also quite useful. For small-item storage, you get front and rear cupholders, a locking glove box, as well as a few other cubbies scattered throughout the cabin. There are also two 12V DC power outlets for your devices. The LX model also gets a number of other available options like an overhead DVD player, Stow ‘n’ Place roof rack, as well as Chrysler’s Cold Weather package.

Voyager’s cabin is quite spacious and comfortable indeed. It gets one of the best leg rooms in the segment, while the headroom offered on all the three rows is quite commendable. It, however, gets very little legroom for the third-row passengers. The Honda Odyssey appears to provide excellent passenger space all around the cabin, with the Toyota Sienna closely following behind. The Voyager also offers a decent amount of cargo space at the back and can hold around 32.3 cubic feet of luggage behind the third row. It further increases to 140.50 cubic feet when the seats are folded down.

How’s the 2021 Chrysler Voyager Minivan’s infotainment system?

2021 Chrysler Voyager uses the UConnect 4 infotainment system, which is one of the most user-friendly among its competitors. The system is easy to use, and quite responsive starts up fast and is efficient. A standard 7-inch touchscreen display allows a smooth control of the infotainment and has impressive high-resolution graphics. The infotainment system includes both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, integrated voice command with Bluetooth, AUX and USB input, SiriusXM AM/FM and available SiriusXM Satellite Radio, voice text reply, as well as an available roof-mounted DVD player.

2021 Chrysler Voyager Minivan infotainment screen

For keeping you entertained, there is the standard 6-speaker system with quite a decent sound quality. However, while you can get steering wheel mounted audio controls in the LX model, there are no rear-seat audio controls available.

2021 Chrysler Voyager Exterior

From outside, the 2021 Chrysler Voyager may resemble any other minivan in its class. It is decently styled and has a simple design, but nothing to call it gorgeous. The vehicle looks like a typical minivan from all sides. Having said that, the galvanized steel-aluminum body looks quite good in the velvet red pearl or granite crystal metallic coat colors. We guess the new oceanic blue metallic would also suit well to it.

2021 Chrysler Voyager Minivan

The black grille in the front and the Voyager liftgate badge at the back looks fine. The real appeal, however, lies with the 17-inch alloy wheels. Besides, the daytime running lights, halogen headlights, rear lip spoiler, the inbuilt roof antenna, or the available roof rack enhances the van’s appearance pretty much.

2021 Chrysler Voyager Safety

9.2/10

Chrysler has focused intensely on the Voyager’s safety. And the result is witnessed by the Vehicle’s excellent performance on the very first year of its launch - it received 5 stars safety ratings from NHTSA. The IIHS has also allotted good safety ratings to Voyager in most aspects. Chrysler claims that the Voyager’s body comprises 72% of high-strength steel. This is greatly complimented by the list of active and passive safety features that the minivan gets. The 2021 Chrysler Voyager will further see additions being made to the available SafetyTec Group, which will not include Passenger Automatic Emergency Braking and Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus.

2021 Chrysler Voyager Competition

2021 Chrysler Voyager Minivan vs Honda Odyssey

The Odyssey is one of the best options in its segment, and the minivan is hailed for its superior interior quality and decent performance. The Voyager on the other hand boasts of its low price tag as well as matching engine power and performance.

Honda Odessey Minivan

The Voyager also gets a number of features and equipment, which the Odyssey lacks. But still, the Odyssey is generally considered a better minivan for its extremely well laid out interior and comfortable seats.

2021 Chrysler Voyager Minivan vs Toyota Sienna

The Toyota Sienna has some premium traits as compared to the Voyager. It has a more powerful engine configuration, a better-quality interior, as well as good ride quality. But it is not that practical as the Voyager. The Voyager is much lightweight and a lot cost-effective.

Honda Odessey Minivan

Moreover, the Voyager is equipped with a number of features and technologies, which is quite impressive considering the price range. The Sienna, however, excels in terms of its reliability and dependability.

2021 Chrysler Voyager Final Verdict

The Chrysler Voyager is certainly turning out to be one of the best in its class, mainly because of its budget-friendliness. The vehicle has quite a low entry price, and it offers a decent mix of all necessary equipment. It is spacious, practical, has a decent interior, and is also good to drive. Although it does not possess a long list of standard features like the Chrysler Pacifica, the low MSRP makes up for that. So, if you are looking for a minivan in the category, you can choose the 2021 Chrysler Voyager for getting some great value for your money.
