Some might say that the trend of owning a minivan is long gone and it has been taken over by the high demand for SUVs. Well, Chrysler does not think that as it is offering thePacifica Minivan with a hybrid powertrain. This means that you get all the practicality of a minivan clubbed with advanced technology for better performance and fuel economy. The 2019 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid does not offer any significant updates and continues to be the part of the first-generation Chrysler Pacifica minivan introduced for 2017.

The Pacifica is huge and crafted to home a diverse family similar is Pacifica's lineup. There are three major trims: Touring Plus, Touring L, and Limited. Chrysler features a monochromic 3.6L V6 engine and an electrically variable-speed automatic transmission. A lithium-ion battery backs the engine which can be fully charged in 2 hours from a 240-volt Mopar. The Pacifica boasts 520 miles of total driving range and can run 32 miles on battery alone. The Base trim is loaded with features and it gets better with each trim. The Base L trim starts as low as 27 grand and goes all the way to 45 grand. The Pacifica is a Front wheel drive.

2019 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid Minivan Engine and Performance

8.5/10

Being the only full-fledged hybrid minivan in the segment, there is a lot at stake forChrysler Pacifica Hybrid. The hood hides an already accomplished 3.6L V6 engine paired to an electrically variable-speed automatic transmission.

2019 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Engine Bay

Another source of power is a lithium-ion battery which has plug-in capability and can run as long as 33 miles on battery alone. However, you won't need the plugin as the self-charging mechanism which extracts the power from the brakes which would otherwise have been wasted. The engine drills out 260 horsepower which is transferred to the front wheels of the Pacifica as there is no all-wheel drive on offer.

The Pacifica's hybrid line might be the first of its kind but it might not conquer the likes of gas-powered Minivans. The Dodge Grand Caravan features the top of line power followed by the Kia Sedona. The last place is acquired by our hybrid Chrysler Pacifica.

How fast is the 2019 Chrysler Pacifica Minivan Hybrid?

The powertrain is punchy with a hybrid motor proving low-end torque, but you need to be a little heavy footed to wake up all 260 horses. The initial acceleration is slow courtesy of additional battery weight though as you jab the pedal Chrysler starts to shine. This Pacifica takes 7.8 seconds to complete the 60 mph run, which is pretty fair for a minivan. For the quarter-mile segment, the Pacifica hits the mark in 15.6 seconds, pretty average to other vans in the segment.

When it comes to going fast there is no beating the Honda Odyssey which offers a surreal 0-60 mph figure for a minivan. The Pacifica on the other hand is almost 2 seconds slower than the Odyssey in reaching the 60 mph mark. However, you can argue that no one really buys a minivan to drag race, and thus this should not matter much to potential buyers.

Ride and Handling

The 2019 model year of theChrysler Pacifica Hybrid offers the same suspension and steering setup as its predecessor. The extra pounds of hybrid battery and motor should have tampered with Pacifica's handling but not much has changed. It's still nimble and quite maneuverable similar to its gas oriented sibling. The steering is light and has a central feel to it, road communication might be less but the shape steering instincts inspire confidence on tricky roads. Body roll is there but it's well-controlled. As you slide to the L model, the regenerative brakes are put to work. The cabin feels comfortable and until the wheels intercept with any major of a minor anomaly which sends shockwaves through the cabin.

Braking performance

Brakes on the Hybrid Pacifica are a bit different than the ones in the gas variant. The brakes have a natural feel as you shift to D and as you shift to L the regenerative brakes take the lead. The pedal is easy to modulate and relatively has a short travel distance and the response is immediate too.

2019 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Wheel

The Front brakes are rated at 13 inches and so is the rear. From the speed of 60 mpg, the Pacifica took 119 feet to come to a stop. The change from regenerative to mechanical brakes is purely unnoticed.

In this department, the Pacifica Hybrid minivan outshines most of its rivals. This is all thanks to its bigger brake rotors. It is the heaviest minivan of the lot but still manages to stop well under acceptable stopping distance.

2019 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid Minivan Fuel Economy

4.0/10

Being the only hybrid version in the segment brings responsibility and the feeling of leaving a mark on the minivan market.Chrysler did that with Pacifica's efficient hybrid nature. The combined mileage is set at 32 mpg which itself is a 10 point jump from the regular Pacifica. Though the fuel tank capacity was reduced to 16.5 gallons. On sheer battery power, the Pacifica can go as long as 33 miles which is quite a statement to make. With gas and electric powers combined the total drive range is calculated at 520 miles which makes the equivalent mpg 82.

If fuel economy is your prime concern, the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is the only minivan you should consider buying. Thanks to its battery pack, the minivan manages to offer excellent combined mileage. Thus it also offers the smallest fuel tank due to its high mileage.

2019 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid Minivan Interior

8.5/10

You can use the Pacifica for daily commuting or for going camping on the weekend, the limit to the versatility of its interior. Pacifica can home seven to eight people at one a time depending on which second-row seating option you pick. You can either go for the bench or the captain's chair.

2019 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Dashboard

The seats sit high above the ground but the low ground clearance compensates for the same. Access to the second row is through a sliding door which has a decent opening. The third-row access is easy too and can comfortably accommodate three adults.

With large windows and thin pillars, visibility is a strong point on the Pacifica. The quality of the interior is nice with a lot of soft touches but the same cannot be said for the poor material used on the steering. The Hybrid version does not enjoy the stow-n-Go feature as that space was used to harbor the hybrid motor. Other features like the Conversation mirror gives parents full access to what their children are doing at the back. If you talk about the interior design it's one hell of a minivan and indicates how much minivans have changed in all these years.

2019 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Trunk Space

The most sensible choice to fit theHybrid motor and battery is the boot, though Chrysler loses the Stow-n go seats to smartly secure the full cargo bay. With all seats up the Chrysler delivers 32 cubic feet of cargo volume. The second seats need can be removed like on other minivans though third-row seats have the foldable feature. The full Pacifica cargo bay is rated at 140. 5 cubic feet which is nice but not the best in the lot.

8.0/10

Although the majority of minivans look the same the all-American 2019 Pacifica Hybrid adds a little fair to the design. It's the most curvaceous van modeled over the boxy body which is a strong design statement. The Chrysler's logo and grill look better than ever and feel like it was built exclusively for this van. Despite big dimensions the Pacifica mystic makes it look smaller, however, it's a big van and its cabin says it all.

Its Pacifica is 10 inches longer than a full-fledged executive, its width is rated at 79 inches and height at 70 inches. The ground clearance of 5.1 inches which is lower then most of the vans in the segment. The wheelbase is rather large courtesy of the overall length.

2019 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid Minivan Safety

8.0/10

The Chrysler Pacifica features a long list of safety features along with a strong core safety. The 2019 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid is yet to be tested. Though the gas Pacifica was duly tested and IIHS names it as it's Top Safety Pick+ and NHTSA awarded it with an all-star rating. As said earlier the list of safety features is long with active safety features like blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, cross-traffic alert, and more. Other driver-assist features include automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist.

2019 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid Minivan Competition

7.5/10

Dodge Grand Caravan vs Chrysler Pacifica

Dodge Caravan is exactly what the idea of an ideal van looks like. It has space for seven and it's a spacious van. Similar to the Pacifica there is enough power to counter the city's traffic and hit the country road on the weekend.

2019 Chrysler Pacifica Front Angle View

Though it's a decent van and matches everything the Pacifica does, but as a buyer, you cannot resist Pacifica's futuristic look. Also, in terms of economy, Chrysler's Hybrid technology is lucrative. Considering the hefty price difference, the choice boils down to whether you want a hybrid minivan or not.

Honda Odyssey vs Chrysler Pacifica

The Honda Odyssey is the Chuck Norris of the minivan segment. It's the segment leader and boasts a higher price and power. In terms of dimensions and utility, the Odyssey delivers more than the Pacifica. The fact that this version of the Odyssey was launched last year and it's more practical.

2019 Honda Odyssey Front Angle View

In comparison to the Pacifica, the Odyssey is more nimble and child-friendly. The hybrid Pacifica does not have the foldable seats similar to the Odyssey. Since Odyssey is the segment leader and there is a huge price difference of 10 grand Odyssey makes more sense.

2019 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid Minivan Final Verdict

The2019 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid opens new realms of efficiency for the regular minivan driver. The ride quality is decent with no noticeable change than the gas-powered Pacifica. The ergonomic numbers go sky high with its mind-boggling 32 mpg combined average. The solo 33 miles range on the battery power is something exotic, that enough distance to avoid gas for weeks in city driving. The biggest hit comes to the utility as there is no Stow-n-go feature as it was collateral damage for fitting the Batteries and electric motor. Another disappointment was Pacifica's price which is way too expensive for the normal buyer.

Magnific Pacifica

Pros - Practicality, Cozy seating.

Cons - Probably the mileage, which is pretty underwhelming, from what I expected.

I think if one has no problem as far as price of the car is concerned, he should definetly buy this car, for the simple reason that it has great utility.

Red S edition of Pacifica

Pros - Red seats, noise free driving, Apple carplay

Cons - Space in third row, cargo lights, armrest

I'm not going to start by praising the fuel efficiency which is no doubt far better than my last car but still obvious for an hybrid. I'd rather take this oppurtunity to mention its smooth and noise free drive quality.

Magnific Pacifica

I think if one has no problem as far as price of the car is concerned, he should definetly buy this car, for the simple reason that it has great utility.

Most streamline vehicle on the market.

Top mileage. This mainly takes care of daily commuting to office. It potentially saves multiple dollars per month.

Just like I would have asked

A minivan with packed full of competence and practicality. Not the best van in terms of comfort but driving wise.
