Chevrolet offers the capable and compact Trax which is a 5-seater SUV in the shape of a crossover. The Trax offers the basics of an SUV, including well-off ground clearance and even AWD to the rather inexpensively placed car. The Trax has an abundance of space and driving character, with some meager off-road capability, which makes it a good fit for families.

The Trax is available in two trims, the LS and the LT, with the same 1.4L turbocharged gas motor powering each trim. The Trax follows up with minor updates from the generational update back from 2015 and shares its platform with the Buick Encore. The car offers decent interiors, however, the LS trim seems a bit too barebones, and the LT trim with the $450 convenience package offers a competitive and well-appointed experience. The car offers great space and a feature-rich interior which competes well with its rivals.

For the 2021 model year, the Trax will only be offered in the LS and the LT trims, which means the manufacturer has decided to forgo the Premium trim. The car also features a few minor updates and added features in the interior to make it a bit more capable in the segment. The class competition for the Trax is the likes of the Ford Escape, the Buick Encore, and the Hyundai Kona.

How comfortable are the Seats of the 2021 Chevrolet Trax?

The Trax has a meagerly appointed although spacious cabin. The high seating position allows for a roomy feel to the interior. The dashboard is stylish yet simple, with an easy to use and a well-specced touchscreen display in the center. The dashboard also features some upholstery inserts that aid the comfort of the cabin. The front console and the dash however have cheap plastics, with the sides of the console coming in hard plastic. Even the door-tops and the window edge on the doors have hard plastic.

2021 Chevrolet Trax SUV seats

The fabric seats on the LS as well as the LT trims are rough, although the LT gets the option of leatherette seats, which does round off the cabin feel rather nicely. The front seats are evenly spaced, with a taller seating position overlooking the road, which could be a boon to beginner drivers. The rear seats have plenty of headroom, but they lack a bit of legroom. A full-size adult can fit on the rear bench, however, the position is a bit constricted, and there is not enough space for moving your legs around.

The tall design helps a bit in the headroom and also makes the cabin feel a bit more spacious. However, the seating is a bit on the cramped side, especially in the legroom department. Although the soft materials on the door handle cabin space and have great legroom at the rear.

The 2021 Chevrolet Trax comes with different customization options and some of the noticeable interior features available in this Sub-compact SUV, they include the following:

  • Remote keyless entry
  • Rear cupholders
  • Auto-locking doors
  • Tilt and telescopic steering wheel
  • 1 12V DC power outlet
  • 2 USB ports
  • 60/40 rear split-folding bench seat
  • Air-con system with in-built filtration system

How much Cargo and Luggage can the 2021 Chevrolet Trax carry?

The Trax offers enough space for luggage, which is at an astounding 18.7 cubic-feet. The trunk is lined with cheap materials, although the box-like design does account for the rather usable space. The lower lip of the tailgate is a bit on the higher side, but the compact design lets it be close to the ground, which does help in loading.

The rear seats can be folded in a 60:40 manner to add a nifty bit of space to the boot, which ramps up to 48.4 cubic feet with the seats down. The boot has aerial lights which adds a bit to the convenience, however, the tailgate is manually operated, although it does have an electronic release.

The Chevrolet Trax with its sibling the Buick Encore has a decent cargo space. The Hyundai Kona has a comparable capacity to store luggage, although it is a bit more on the lower side. The Ford Escape is the downright champion in terms of boot space, with the car easily being able to store 33.5 cubic feet even with the rear seats up.

What are the Infotainment and Interior Features of the 2021 Chevrolet Trax?

The 7.0-inch touchscreen on the Trax has great functionality and ease of use, although it looks a bit out of place on the dash. It has a quick access menu and minimal lag, also featuring the latest smartphone connection capabilities. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on either Trax trims, which helps as Navigation hasn't been included by Chevrolet.the car does offer a 4G LTE connection, and WiFi hotspot capabilities, however these require a monthly subscription.

2021 Chevrolet Trax SUV infotainment screen

The standard features on the system include Mylink Radio, AM/FM capability. The LT trim does get Satellite Radio compatibility. The basic audio system is a 6-speaker unit, and for 2021 model year the premium Bose sound system will not be available. Additionally, the driver’s gauge cluster has a 4.2 inch TFT display, that can digitally display speed and a few other options.

Additional infotainment features of the 2021 Chevrolet Trax

The Chevrolet Trax offers a good cabin at its price point, which comes loaded with a variety of features as standard. A few of these features are:

  • 7-inch infotainment screen
  • 6 speakers audio system
  • 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot capable
  • OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation
  • Steering-wheel mounted audio controls
  • Apple CarPlay
  • Android Auto
  • Speed sensitive volume
  • Wireless phone connectivity
  • Voice-activated radio

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Trax worth Buying?

If you are in the market for a cheap crossover, the 2021 Chevrolet Trax is a good option. Although convenience and space offered on the other competitors are much better. The Trax does well on offering stripped-down features, and a responsive and reliable engine. The interiors and the seating space does leave something to be desired. Overall the Trax is not the best option considering the measly interiors.

Uncomfortable Ergonomics

Pros - "Solid list of standard infotainment features Easy to maneuver"

Cons - "Weak engine Rigid ride Seats could use more support"

Sub-Compact SUvs Extra-small SUVs are known for their excellent fuel efficiency, mobility, and load space. The 2021 Chevrolet Trax ticks all of these boxes while also being simple to get into and out of. However, the Trax suffers with some uncomfortable seats, a noisy, abrasive ride, and a back seat that may cause discomfort. I never got a call that came in from the FOB that I ordered. I've been having to contact the Dept parts. They were expected to come in one week and a half thereafter. They didn't fix it and waited for me to view it again for the entire week.

Budget Car

Pros - Budget car, compact and easy going

Cons - Boot space in 2nd row, cargo space, wi-fi is not the great

2021 Chevrolet Trax It is the SUV that is in my budget. It is highly practical for work or anyone looking for a daily driver. It is very good to drive in city, it is quick and really maneuverable.
