Worst SUV ever

Pros - Big on space. Cargo area. Interior quality.

Cons - Poor relibaility. Fuel economy.

Never buy an used 2013 tahoe The Tahoe is only great with space and nothing else. I have faced so many issues in the two years of driving it that I have decioded not to buy a Chevrolet ever again. There has been multiple engine light malfunctions despite spending money on control modules and sensors which I don't really know. There has also been a lot of electrical issues due to corrosion of in a fuse box. That one time, the headlamps, wiper motor and even the radio went dead together. Now there has been a engine oil leaking issue which requires the gearbox to be removed for fixing. This definitely is gonna be the last time I'm spending on the Tahoe and then have it sold off for good! Its a daylight robbery here if you don't ask the specifics for the repair estimate. My technician friend accompanied me to the shop and helped me skip off few parts which he felt wasn't needed! Saved a good $450 because of my friend!

2013 Chevy Tahoe!

Pros - Beefy looks. Roomy on the inside.

Cons - Too many repairs. Dismal interior quality.

Not that good as I was expecting! I purchased the Tahoe for the roominess and the road presence the mighty CHevy enjoys. However, the frequent issues with the SUV has been really cumbersome. The SUV has about 96K miles on the odo now. Few months back there was a grinding sort of noise from the underneath of the SUv which only grew with the vehicle speed. It was from the rear differential and was a major repair to fix the noise. There has also been a 4WD system malfunction because of a sensor failure. I also had to replace the main battery which makes it the second battery in three years. Although it has a premiuim-car like interior design the quality isn't quite up-to-mark. The dash developed a nasty crack which is right in the middle. Even few door handles and AC vents broke off and that too during normal day-to-day operations! Sara here has been very friendly and professional. The place is also comfy to wait in for quick service jobs!

Steering issues, even after the recall

Pros - Nice overall

Cons - Steering centering problem

Steering centering problem after the replacement There was a recall for transmission and steering. I got the steering column replaced from the dealer. But when I brough it back, I feel the steering to be slightly off-centered. Took it back to the dealer and they deny it. But I can notice the slight difference in drive, while they say it's normal. I am here to ask whether that's okay or should I consider applying under the lemon law? Steering is not normal, but they say it is and they can't help with anything therein.

The Chevrolet Tahoe is smooth to drive and provides great damping to even out the undulations of the road, which results in a comfortable ride. The steering is precise and is quick to react to the driver's input. Starting at a base price of $40,405, the top trim reaches up to $54,620. Thus the Chevy Tahoe competes with equally capable vehicles like the Ford Expedition and GMC Yukon.

We Recommend

We would recommend you to opt for their mid LT trim as it adds much better features over the base model with an increase of around $5,000. Some of these additional features include leather upholstery, a better sound system, automatic climate control, and many more. Thus starting at $45,555, the LT trim provides the best value for the money spent.

2013 Chevrolet Tahoe Engine and Performance

7.6/10

The 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe is available in a single engine option. The 5.3-liter V8 engine generates around 320 hp along with 335 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated with a 6-speed shiftable automatic transmission and delivers the power to the rear wheels as standard. There is also an option for the 4WD drive setup. 5.0/10

The massive V8 engine in the Tahoe is surely not the most fuel-efficient vehicle. It provides a mileage of 15 mpg in the city, which improves to 21 mpg on the highway. Thus we get a combined fuel economy of 17 mpg. Along with that, the Tahoe gets a big 26 gallons of fuel tank capacity that provides a maximum range of 546 highway miles and 442 combined miles.

2013 Chevrolet Tahoe Interior

7.8/10

The interior design of the Chevrolet Tahoe is well laid as the ergonomic design makes it convenient for all interior operations. The interior trim is available in wooden trim which feels premium, but on the lower trims, we see the use of a lot of plastic panels which do not feel good to look at or even touch. But the interior is spacious and can easily accommodate up to 9 people in total. The front row provides the best headroom and legroom, while the third-row seats fall short of the legroom which makes it uncomfortable for long rides. The Tahoe provides a cargo capacity of 16.9 cu.ft behind the third row, while with all seats folded, it provides a maximum cargo capacity of 108.9 cu.ft.

Here is a list of all the interior features that are available with the 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe:

  • Six-way power front seats
  • Driver memory functions
  • Leather upholstery
  • Heated and ventilated 12-way power front seats

2013 Chevrolet Tahoe Exterior

7.0/10

The exterior design of the Chevrolet Tahoe is boxy yet attractive. The Tahoe is a huge vehicle but has few features that distinguish it from the competitors. The huge hood, front split grille, and square headlamps complete the front look of the vehicle. The Tahoe can get up to 22-inch wheels which gives it a menacing stance. The Chevy Tahoe has a curb weight of around 5,467 pounds. It has a length of 202 inches along with a wheelbase of 116 inches. The Tahoe has a high ground clearance of 9 inches, which provides better performance on the off-road as well.

The Ford Expedition is the heaviest of them all with a curb weight of 5,844 pounds, while the GMC Yukon has a curb weight of 5,467 pounds. The Expedition is the longest in this comparison and thus provides better spacing and cargo capacity inside the cabin. All the vehicles in comparison have a similar ground clearance of 9 inches and thus are efficient on uneven surfaces as well. Here is a list of the exterior features that are available with the 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe:

  • 17/18/20/22-inch alloy wheels
  • Foglamps
  • locking rear differential
  • power-folding mirrors
  • power rear liftgate
  • Sunroof

2013 Chevrolet Tahoe Safety

8.3/10

The NHTSA has given the 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe a safety rating of 4-stars out of 5, while the IIHS has not tested the Chevy Tahoe. Due to high ground clearance, the Tahoe has the danger of rollover, and thus reduces the total safety rating. But the Tahoe is equipped with multiple safety features that further improve the overall safety factor of the vehicle. Here is a list of all the safety features that are available with the 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe:

  • Antilock disc brakes
  • Traction control
  • Stability control
  • Front-seat side airbags
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Rearview camera
  • Blind-spot warning system

2013 Chevrolet Tahoe Final Verdict

The 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe is one of the most powerful SUVs that we currently see in the market. The V8 engine generates great power output and thus provides better overall performance. The Tahoe is slightly quicker than its rivals but lacks in terms of the fuel economy that it provides. The interior is spacious and provides great spacing for all the passengers, except the third-row passengers which have very little legroom. Thus if the 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe is one of the most powerful contenders in this segment.
