While the previous generation of the Silverado was a very potent vehicle, it lacked the refinement and character its competitors had. This all changes with the all new 2020 Silverado 2500 HD. A redesigned interior and exterior, a powerful engine and top of the line towing capacity will make the Silverado 2500 HD a tough competitor.
Speaking of competition, the Silverado mainly competes with the Ford F-250 Super Duty and the GMC Sierra 2500 HD.

However, the lineup of the Silverado 2500 HD Double Cab is fairly simple. It is offered in 4 trims which start from $38K, going all the up to $53K

Which trim do we recommend?

We recommend the LT. The LT trim is a nice in between which offers the best value for money in our opinion. The base WT or Custom are most definitely cheaper but skip out on a lot of features, while the top LTZ trim is offered at a substantial price premium.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Double Cab Engine and Performance

9.9/10

A big and bold truck like the Silverado needs an equally big engine under its hood. The massive 6.6L V8 engine which powers the truck makes 410 horsepower and 464 lb ft of torque. The 6 speed automatic transmission here suits the engine well. They both work together to give the Silverado more power from last year.

Among the competition, the Silverado and the Sierra have the same number and are also class leaders. The F-250 falls behind a little. Making the least power can be justified by the price, as the F-250 does cost a little less.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty 2500 Crew Cab 0-60?

The acceleration the Silverado is capable of is quite impressive. Considering its weight, it manages to reach 60 mph in a quick 7.2 seconds. The acceleration is smooth and the sound the engine makes is music to our ears. Sudden acceleration while driving will result in an immediate drop in gears for optimal acceleration.

The Silverado is the quickest of the lot. Despite being among the heaviest in the lot, it manages this by making a decent amount of power. Being among the lighter ones in the class, the F-250 isn't able to be as quick as the Silverado.

How does the new Chevrolet Silverado 2500 handle?

The Silverado handles much better than one would expect. It doest feel heavy at all. The steering is responsible for this. However, the steering might be making things a little too lightweight. It effectively eliminates any feedback from the wheels.
The suspensions are well suited for a truck of this size. The stiff front suspension manages to iron our road impurities. The rear leaf suspension performs well under road but is a little too jumpy unladen.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Double Cab 60-0?

Brakes are a very crucial part for a truck this heavy, capable of such incredible acceleration. Thankfully, the brakes here don't disappoint. The 14 inch disk brakes both in the front and back are ventilated, meaning they will perform well under constant usage. One issue with the brakes is the amount of dead travel on the pedal. Around a quarter of the pedal contributes to no braking.

The Sierra is among the heaviest here with the smallest brakes. This will definitely affect how the brakes perform. We don't have braking performance numbers of any of the trucks, however, the 2500 HD Regular cab showed that the Silverado performed better than its rivals. We can assume the same here.

How much can the 2020 Chevy SIlverado 2500 haul?

The bigger the truck, the better the towing. The Silverado 2500 HD is capable of towing up to 14500 pounds, and carries a payload upwards of 3500 pounds. Impressive numbers.

Fuel ratings haven't been revealed for the competition either. The 34 gallon fuel tank may make you think that the F-250 has poorer range, but it's younger sibling, the F-150 managed better range in cases thanks to a much more fuel efficient engine than the Silverado and Sierra. 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Double Cab Interior

9.0/10

Will all new interiors, the 2020 Chevrolet SIlverado is ready to challenge the competition. However, while on the first glance the may look nice, it falls behind the competition. The build quality is good, but the interiors look a little dated for being “new” in 2020. The layout is a little generic, as it is the same across the competition.

Starting from the driving seat, it is elevated. The driver sits high in their seat, which gives them a good view of the road ahead. The view out the back is clear, but while parking the backup camera and parking sensors are needed for assistance . The A pillars do obstruct the view a little bit, especially in turns, but isn't that big a problem.

Cabin space is decent. Head and legroom both are substantial. They make good use of the room provided. The front seats are both heated and ventilated. The seats are a little stiff but are comfortable enough for long trips.

The cabin is fairly quiet, with most of the noise being wind noise. Comparatively, tire noise is quite less. The sound of the V8 engine is not noticeable while idling, however, rev the engine high enough and the rumble of this enormous engine engulfs the cabin.

The Silverado and the Sierra have the same interior space. The cabin room in the front rows make them the class leaders. The F-250 does have more interior space in the second row, but that lead isnt much in real world terms.

What Infotainment features does the Silverado 2500 have?

The Silverado is equipped with the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 System. the The system is intuitive and easy to use. The 8 inch touchscreen is very responsive to touch. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are ot standard, along with a bluetooth which connects upto 2 devices at a time. Upto 7 Bose branded speakers along with a subwoofer makes for a great audio setup.

How much cargo space does the Silverado 2500 offer?

The cargo bed is one of the main attractions in a truck. Chevrolet claims the Silverado’s cargo bed has more volume than any competitor. The bed is easy enough to access, thanks to an integrated step in the body. The bed is quite wide. Being well illuminated only adds to its utility. Each corner has 3 cargo hooks, rated for 500 pounds each. The 120 volts outlet included in the back can be used for power tools.

Chevrolet’s claim is somewhat true. The SIlverado does have more cargo space than the F-250, however, has the same space as the Sierra. Since they both are basically the same car, maybe that can be excused.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Double Cab Exterior

6.0/10

The new look of the 2020 Silverado 2500 HD is quite attractive. Chevrolet has made the truck more rugged and aggressive. The all new body makes the Silverado stand apart from its competition. Chevrolet seems quite proud of the redesign. They have plastered their name on both ends of the new truck. In the front, the huge grill and headlights are split in the middle with a bead which holds Chevrolet’s name. The giant hood scoop adds a lot of character, and effectively cools the engine too. Out back, the cargo door has Chevrolet written on it in huge fonts. Overall, the Silverado still has the same boxy look reminiscent of a pickup truck, but it is now one of the meanest looking trucks on the road.

Comparing the external design, the Silverado’s is the most aggressive out of all the three. The F-250’s looks seem a little toned down to us. While this look will appeal to a lot of people, the Silverado just seemed more attractive to us. The Sierra is just a little too flashy.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Double Cab Safety

8.0/10

Car manufacturers has now been integrating more and more safety features in their vehicles. Trucks in particular, being as heavy they are, need these safety features too. The features backup cameras and parking sensors common, the Silverado has certain features which are unique to it. Hitch Guidance allows users to use the the back up camera to help align the trailer better while reversing. It can also help the driver check on it while driving. Some other features are:

  • StabiliTrak - Electronic stability control
  • Teen Driver mode
  • Tire pressure monitoring system
  • Traction control
  • Emergency braking assist
  • Engine immobilizer

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Double Cab Competition

8.2/10

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Double Cab vs 2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty SuperCab

The Silverado might take the lead above the F-250 if we compare the two directly on paper. The Silverado is ahead in power, speed, cabin space and cargo volume. However, the reason Ford’s F-Series of trucks outsell the Silverado is because Ford has an established name in the country when it comes to trucks. The F-250 also provides more towing capacity and presumably better fuel economy.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Double Cab vs 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Double Cab

The Sierra and the Silverado are basically the same car. They are two sides of the same coin. They share the same base, same mechanics and mostly the same performance. What differentiates the two is the nature the cars have. While the Silverado is a Get Stuff Done kind of truck, the Sierra offers better comfort or updated looks. Its focus is more on pizazz. Which of the two the people prefers is seen in their sales, of which the Silverado is much ahead.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Double Cab Final Verdict

8.5/10

For its price, the Silverado offers a lot of benefits. Great power, towing and payload capacity, cabin room and cargo volume are all things in which the SIlverado beats the competition. It manages to be one of the meanest looking cars on the road. Although the interiors are a little dated, the Silverado’s true appeal is its brute strength and reliability. The competition might be fierce, but the Silverado is ready to give them a run for their money.
