Overall Rating
Although the previous generation of the Silverado was a very capable car, it fell behind the competition when it came to refinement and capability. The all new 2020 Chevrolet Silverado solves all these issues. With a fully upgraded exterior, revamped interior and same trusty diesel engine under the hood, the Silverado is faster, has better towing and better cargo space than its competition.
Speaking of the Competition, they are some very well recognised names. The likes of the Ford F-250 Super Duty and the GMC Sierra 2500 HD compete with the Silverado here.

Final Verdict
The diesel offerings of a truck aren't as rich as the gasoline counterpart of the same variant. However, this is not the case here. The Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Diesel Regular Cab ( Woah .. that's quite a mouthful) is offered in the same two variants. The difference between the prices is quite substantial though. While the Regular Cab WT costs around $34K, the diesel Regular Cab WT starts just above $47K. However, diesel engines do have their benefits, that's why we are here.

Which trim do we recommend?
If your heart is set on owning a diesel Silverado, opting for the LT will prove to be the better option. The LT is equipped with a little more features and provides better utility and comfort. The price premium is worth the increase in comfort.
The diesel engine here is a 6.6L turbo diesel V8. This is quite the impressive engine. Having the same capacity as the gasoline variant, it manages to make much more power than it. While the 445 horsepower is impressive, the whopping 910 lb ft of torque is absolutely stupendous.
Putting all this power to the wheels is a 10 speed transmission. This transmission is quick and ready to go at a moment’s notice. All one needs is to ask the truck for quickness, and it will deliver.

While the F-250’s gasoline variant fell behind the class, the diesel variant pulled ahead. It makes both more horsepower and torque compared to the Silverado. It delivers this while costing less than both its competition.
The diesel variant of the Silverado Regular Cab is just as quick as the gasoline variant, reaching 60 mph in just 6.5 seconds. Not only is the acceleration fast, it is quite smooth as well. The gurgling of the 6.6L turbocharged V8 engine is ever present and feels rather empowering when you push the engine hard.

The Sierra and the Silverado have the same number again. Both share the same V8 engine and have the same acceleration time. However, the Sierra is much heavier than the Silverado and still manages the time. The Ford is left behind here. The F-250 didn't make anything out of its lighter body and more powerful engine.
Apart from an engine that vibrates a little more, the diesel Regular Cab isn't much different from the Gasoline powered diesel cab. The Silverado is a heavy truck, but that weight is hardly felt while driving it. The steering is very light, which makes managing the truck very easy. The suspension works wonders here. The front suspension is on the stiffer side, which when paired with the heavy body, handles bumps and imperfections on the road with ease. The rear suspension gets a little agitated when unladen, as it is tuned to make the ride smooth under load.
Brakes on trucks like the Silverado need to be excellent. Such trucks are fast and heavy. There is a lot of pressure on the brakes. If the brakes perform subpar, it will ruin the whole driving experience of the car. Thankfully, the Silverado delivers. The 14 inch disk brakes both in the front and the back are ventilated. This allows them to function under duress for longer without any compromise in their braking force. However, a quarter of the pedal travel contributes to no braking at all. This, along with the lack of adjustable pedals will make it especially problematic for some shorter drivers.

The Sierra is at a clear disadvantage here, being the heaviest of the bunch with the smallest brakes. The official panic braking distance from 60 mph to 0 is not present, however, we can assume it won't be something the Sierra wants to advertise. While the brakes on the F-250 are the biggest, the Silverado has the best stopping distance of the class.
Diesel engines are beasts. They have massive amounts of torque, manage class leading towing capacities and sound great. The Silverado’s engine isn't any different. The 6.6L Duramax turbocharged V8 present has more towing capacity than the normal gasoline variant.

While the gasoline variant of the Silverado fell behind the F-250, here all the cars in the segment have the same amount of towing capacity. This speaks quite highly of the diesel engine.
The official fuel economy numbers for the Silverado 2500 HD’s diesel engine are not yet revealed. Keep in mind that diesel engines have much better fuel efficiency than gasoline engines. So, even though the fuel tank is of the same capacity, this diesel truck will have a far better range.

The competition also suffers from a lack of official fuel economy ratings. Check back with us soon for a comparison between the class.
The 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 gets all new interiors. This follows the redesign of the Silverado 1500, which happened for the 2019 model year. At first glance, the interiors seem attractive. They are made with good quality materials, with no squeaking plastic bits. However, they do seem a little dated for 2020. The layout is somewhat generic, as it is common for the class, however, the competition makes it work by making the interiors plusher.
Starting with the driver’s position, it is quite elevated. The driver sits high in their seat, which allows them to have a clear view of the road. The view out back is fairly clear for everyday driving. However, reversing this hefty truck will require one to depend on the backup camera and parking sensors. For a truck this size, the A pillars do pose a slight chance of vision obstruction, but it isn't that problematic.
The Regular Cab only has one row of seating. The row is quite spacious and the 40/20/40 split-bench seats can accommodate 3 people easily. The seats themselves are made out of vinyl and are slightly on the stiffer side. However, they are comfortable enough to make long trips comfortable.
Behind the steering wheel is quite a simple looking gauge cluster which sports up to a 4.2" diagonal color Driver Information Center screen which includes driver personalization options and displays error messages and vehicle information.
The cabin manages to keep fairly quiet. Wind noise is more prominent here than tire noise. Although diesel has a distinctive rumble, it seems fairly quiet in idle or on low revs, but pus hit enough and the cabin fills with the ecstatic sound of the V8.

The Silverado and the Sierra are the class leaders in cabin space. The Ford F-250 falls behind a tab bit here. While the Silverado and the Sierra have the same interior space, the latter has a more polished interior.
While the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 might not be a flashy name, it is quite a good system. It is intuitive to use and offers a pleasant experience. The 8 inch touchscreen is quick and quite responsive to the touch. Features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are now standard, making the connectivity options in the Silverado up to market standards. Speaking of connectivity, the Bluetooth lets you connect up to two devices at once. The cabin has a total of 2 speakers, which offer enough sound to adequately cover the cabin.
The main attraction in any pickup is its cargo bed. Chevrolet has some tall claims for the Silverado, saying it has class leading cargo volume. The cargo bed is easy to access. Steps and grab handles are integrated into the body to make it easy to access the cargo area. The cargo area is very wide. To increase productivity, the Silverado sports a total of 12 cargo hooks, 3 in each corner. Each cargo hook is rated for 500 pounds, making each corner capable of strapping down around 1500 pounds, which is quite a lot. The bed itself is sufficiently lit and the additional 120 volts outlet helps increase productivity and flexibility.

Chevrolet’s claims for class leading cargo space is somewhat true. While it does dominate the Ford F-250, it has the same cargo space as the Sierra. Since the Sierra and the Silverado are practically the same car, guess we could let this go.
The 2020 Silverado 2500 introduces us to the all new look. We know this styling from the Silverado 1500 refresh introduced last year. Chevrolet took the main characteristics of the Silverado and made it .. more. Its more aggressive than before, as well as more rugged.
Up in the front, Chevrolet proudly displays its name on a beam that splits both the grille and the halogen headlights in two. The scoop on the hood is not just for show, but in fact, cools down the massive engine. When you stand in front of the truck, you will immediately notice the massive rearview mirrors coming off its sides. The front integrates well with hte rest of the body. From the side, the Silverado looks so huge it makes the 17 inch wheels feel small. Standing tall at a height of 80 inches, its going be taller than the person driving it. It looks intimidating but Chevrolet has made the driving mechanics quite smooth and relaxing. The rear too displays Chevrolet’s name in the center. The rear bumper has integrated steps to make climbing into the cargo bay easy. The body also has grab handles built into it for support. Overall, the new exterior of the Silverado makes it one of the meanest looking trucks on the road.

Talking about outside styling, Ford’s styling is one of the most toned down in our opinion. It is more refined than aggressive. The Sierra has a tone of flash to it. The front grille on the Sierra is a little off-track in our opinion. All in all, the exteriors of each of the truck will be a hit or miss or people. Ford’s styling might appeal to more people.
As the industry as a whole evolves, so do the safety technology. Car manufacturers equip their cars with more and more tech to make them safer for people to drive. Not only that, they make good selling points for the car. We have reached a place where a car isn't received well by the public if it lacks certain safety equipment. The Silverado has a lot of good safety features up its sleeve. While some features like a backup camera and parking sensors are common, it does have some which are unique to the Silverado. Hitch guidance helps the driver in maneuvering their truck better when it has a trailer attached. It even lets you check up on the trailer while driving. Some other features are as follows:
No matter which metric we compare, the Silverado matches the F-250’s performance if not best it. The Silverado. Whether it is power, speed, cabin space, cargo volume or towing capacity, the Silverado is ahead. Unfortunately, that is also the case in price. The Silverado is priced at a premium, and its subsequent options can become expensive. However, it looks much better than the F-250 in our opinion and has the potential to really stand out.
The Silverado and the Sierra are basically the same car. They are based on the same platform, have the same performance and almost have the same metrics. The main difference between the two is their nature. While the Silverado is a more get the work done kind of truck, the Sierra is more flashy in nature. It is credited with better interiors. However, the Sierra has constantly stayed behind the Silverado in sales. With both the trucks being refreshed this year, let’s see how they perform.
The Silverado 2500 HD ensures power and utility in a very attractive package. The diesel engine is capable of superb towing capacity and breathtaking speeds and acceleration. Even though the interior here falls behind a little, the Silverado prides itself on its ability to get the job done. To us, the Silverado is an easy recommendation. Chevrolet has got this truck to perform where it matters and made sure no matter how proficient the competition it is, the Silverado stays ahead.
