Overall Rating

The Malibu has the highest NHTSA rating of overall 5 stars and in IIHS testing, the 2017 non-hybrid version has got the highest rating Good in all five crash tests. The Chevrolet Mylink infotainment system has 4G LTE with a Wi-fi hotspot with its own subscription. The Malibu is a good car and is best when going around the city, but we cannot deny that it competes with some very good cars, which makes the Malibu feel like a last resort to getting a hybrid sedan

Ride and Handling

The electric motors provide enough torque to jump off the line in straight-line acceleration, but the engine gets courser while approaching higher rev ranges. The steering is pretty balanced and predictable, which increases the driver's confidence. The suspension feels good, as it is perfectly balanced between ride quality and handling characteristics. The car feels smooth on the road due to its handling, and the cabin is well isolated from noise.

Cargo space

The space of 11.6 cu.ft. of cargo space is not much for a sedan. Storage room in a Malibu Hybrid is less than its only gasoline-powered version because of the position of the battery. However, this is enough for you to carry your everyday items and a few suitcases. The rear seat does fold down in the 60/40 configuration to create more space if and when required.

2017 Chevrolet Malibu hybrid Sedan Competition

8.5/10

Ford Fusion Hybrid S vs Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid

The Ford Fusion is cheaper and is slightly more popular than the Malibu. Ford is almost as spacious as the Malibu but is slightly behind in fuel economy and range. If you are looking for a hybrid cheaper and similarly spacious as the Malibu, the Ford Fusion Hybrid S is a good option.

Honda Accord LX Hybrid vs Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid

The Accord Hybrid is the all in one package. It is the fastest, most spacious (both in passenger and cargo), and has more fuel economy than the Malibu, and most important, it all costs only $23,570. So we cannot deny that the Accord Hybrid is a better car than the Malibu, so Accord Hybrid is the better option between the two.

Toyota Camry LE Hybrid vs Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid

The Camry is similar in performance even though it is slightly better than the Malibu, has a better range as well, and is similar in interior space, with more trunk room. We cannot say that the Malibu is better, but the Camry is cheaper by $1,000. So, it ticks more boxes when it comes to purchasing, hence we choose the Camry Hybrid.

2017 Chevrolet Malibu hybrid Sedan Final Verdict

The Chevrolet Malibu lags behind in acceleration and has less cargo space but is good in fuel economy and the safety ratings are good. The infotainment system includes a lot of features for one car, the wi-fi hotspot is a first-class feature. The car also provides optional packages like leather package and convenience and technology package, which enhance the vehicle’s features, making it worth spending your money on.
