The 2021 Chevrolet Equinox sets foot into this year with a decent powertrain, practical interior setup, and a pocket-friendly price tag. Prices start from an MSRP of $24,995 and go all the way up to $34,195 for the top-end Premier trim. Not much has changed from the 2020 Equinox, to an extent that the Midnight and Sport Special Edition get cloth upholstery, whereas the LT trim gets treated with Black leather upholstery to aid its plush interior styling.

Engine to the tune of a 170 hp 1.5L turbocharged unit is the sole powertrain on offer, as the 2.0L turbo has been sidelined for 2021. Primarily, a more updated Chevy Equinox will be unveiled in 2022 as a whole new variant. That said, the Equinox shows off its prowess against the likes of Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, and Subaru Forester.

Chevy goes for simplicity in the Equinox - The Car Connection

The 2021 Equinox features no meaningful updates over the previous iteration. The 2021 Equinox's 1.5L turbo unit works in tandem with the efficient 6-Speed AT set up to deliver a nominal 170 hp, now that the 252 hp 2.5L turbocharged engine has been discontinued.

The $35,000 RS trim had joined the 2020 Equinox lineup, bringing along 19-inch dark alloys, black cabin upholstery along with black exterior accents too. All of this enables the Equinox to hold one of the top spots in terms of sales, courtesy of its respectable pricing. Nevertheless, 2022 will see the onset of a whole new Equinox iteration with a significant amount of changes.

2021 Chevrolet Equinox Pricing and Features

Retaining the pricing and trim lineup, the 2021 Chevrolet Equinox comes with the same 4 trim levels namely L, LS, LT, and Premier, and the RS variant. Prices for the same range from $24,995 - $32,595. The sporty RS trim comes in at $35,000. All of the said trims come with FWD as standard, whereas the LS trim and above are the only ones that can be opted with an AWD setup for a premium of $1600.

The L trim priced at $24,995 includes a teen driver system, a following distance indicator, automatic emergency brakes, and a rear-seat reminder specially designed to make your ride safe. The LS trim priced at $27,495 comes with some minor interior upgrades and a few appearance-related upgrades that now include the blackout theme too.

The LT trim priced at $28,695 comes up with further upgrades such as a color driver’s information system, and a panoramic roof with some additional cost. The Premier trim priced at $32,595 comes with Confidence and Convenience II packages. This package includes features like ventilated seats and safety alert seats. Also, the infotainment system is highly upgraded at the Premier level. It additionally includes navigation, HD radio, and seven-speaker Bose premium stereo.

2021 Chevrolet Equinox Buying Advice

For $32,595, we would recommend you go for the Premier trim of the 2021 Chevrolet Equinox. as it is packed with all the necessary features including heated seats, a top-rated infotainment system, a hands-free power tailgate, and loads of safety features. Add to that Chevrolet's lasting reliability, and rivals such as the $27,090 Escape and the $24,495 Subaru Forester don't stand a chance against the 2021 Equinox.

2021 Chevrolet Equinox Engine and Performance

The Equinox pushes and plows through corners and ride quality is unimpressive, especially on higher trims with larger wheels - MOTORTREND

The 2021 Equinox will come up with no big changes in the engine department. The sole powertrain on offer will be a 1.5-liter turbocharged Inline-4 engine capable of producing 170 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque. The base engine is standard in all of the trims, and will be offered with a 6-speed automatic transmission unit that is also standard.

2022 Equinox MY will see the 252 hp 2.0L turbocharged unit, along with the 9-Speed AT making its way back again to the Equinox lineup, although presumably now with much more refinement. Chevy’s 1.5-liter turbocharged engine is powerful enough to reach from 0 to 60 MPH in just 8.7 seconds, all the while achieving a top speed of 124 MPH.

Subaru bests the Equinox in the engine department by providing a more powerful 2.5L turbocharged engine, despite being about $500 cheaper than the Equinox. Ford and Chevy stand close to each other in the 0-60 MPH section. Honda CR-V gets the last position in the list as it takes 9.3 seconds to reach from 0-60 MPH, courtesy of the lowest torque figures of the lot.

2021 Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Economy

2021 Chevrolet Equinox Interior

The cabin's swoopy styling is well matched to the exterior's, but while Chevy provides plenty of infotainment niceties as standard, the most affordable Equinox models are somewhat short on creature comforts - CAR AND DRIVER

No major changes have been introduced in the 2021 Equinox's interior. The minor changes that have been brought about is that the $28,695 LT trim has most of its cabin covered with leather. Perforated leather on the dashboard and door panels further add to the ambiance. Moreover, cloth upholstery is available throughout the Midnight and Sport Special editions.

The car comes with a five-seater capacity and front seats can be optioned with 8 way power-adjustable heated and ventilated seats. The standard cargo space provided by Chevy is about 29.9 cubic feet, which is pretty convenient. The Equinox also has a max cargo volume of 63.9 cubic feet

2021 Chevrolet Equinox Exterior

The Equinox looks like many other crossovers, once it's past the familiar Chevy split grille - The Car Connection

Chevrolet was supposed to bring out a new iteration of the Equinox with updated exterior and interior styling for 2021, but has been postponed to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So for 2021 Equinox, we make do with the exterior feature changes brought about in 2020.

The hexagonal headlamps have LED lights at both the ends between which there are grills perfectly carved in somewhat pentagonal through slim shape. The hands-free liftgate and the panoramic sunroof are companions that are an amazing addition to the Equinox series.

2021 Chevrolet Equinox Safety

The Equinox earns a place in the safety honor roll - The Car Connection

No big upgrade has been made in the 2021 version, so the safety features are also almost the same as the earlier version. But that does not mean that there has been any compromise made in the safety of the vehicle. The Chevrolet Equinox is one of the safest SUVs out on the road, as is evident from its roster of driver-assistance features and one of the highest possible crashworthiness ratings. The 2021 Chevy Equinox has won the “Top Safety Pick” award by the IIHS and received a perfect score of five out of five by the NHTSA.

Some of the safety features on offer are-

  • Intellibeam
  • Front Pedestrian Braking
  • Lane Keep Assist
  • Automatic Emergency Braking system
  • Forward Collision Alert

2021 Chevrolet Equinox Competition

2021 Chevrolet Equinox VS 2021 Subaru Forester:

The major section where Chevy tends to best Subaru is the reliability it provides. The reliability rating of Chevrolet is much higher than the Subaru. The section where the $24,495 Subaru Forester bested Equinox is the interior. The Subaru provides a better cabin and a larger cargo space that makes it rank higher than the Chevy.

2021 Subaru Forester

Also, it has a better fuel economy along with much responsive handling, which gives it another additional point. But both cars have a considerable price difference which is a very important point when deciding to choose between the two.

2021 Chevrolet Equinox VS 2021 Ford Escape:

Chevy’s Equinox stands higher on the list beating Ford’s Escape in many sections. The fuel tank offered by Chevy is bigger than that of Ford. Moreover, Ford is around $3000 expensive than Chevy.

2021 Ford Escape

Furthermore, the cargo space provided by Chevy is much higher than that by Ford. On top of which Equinox has a higher safety rating than that of the Ford Escape. So, this makes the 2021 Equinox win the battle against Ford Escape with flying colors.

2021 Chevrolet Equinox Final Verdict

The revamped Chevrolet Equinox was earlier planned to launch in the year 2021 itself, but due to the prevailing pandemic circumstances, the launch has been postponed to 2022. All we can say is that the car is going to be an ideal blend of high-tech features and mind-blowing looks that will take the standards of the compact SUV market to another level. Having said that, with minimal features on point, we'd recommend you to either go for the 2020 iteration itself or wait for the 2022 Equinox.

Pros - Roomy

Cons - Driving dynamics are bad, acceleration is nonexistent, not very comfortable

No fun There are always good and bad points of everything and Equinox is no exception in this regard. So, it is both good and bad like everything else but in this case, bad far outweighs the good. And that is not very good especially if you are a vehicle. What are the good parts? Well, it is roomy/spacious. The cabin is airy and doesn’t feel claustrophobic at all. This is the only good part though. The bad part is it makes a lot of noise, doesn’t have enough power. In short, the driving dynamics are garbage. It’s that bad. The suspension is not good either, killing the ride quality. Everyone was very friendly and easy to work with! They made the whole buying the car an easy, and exciting decision. I never felt pressured.

Turbo power

Pros - Turbo, good gas mileage, decent driveability

Cons - Tedious instrument console

Starts in a jiff in morning and drives quite smooth Equinox may look a sissy car on the window sticker but it has even better power than most of the cars I've ever driven. All thanks to turbo. I would have wanted to see Chevy putting some efforts for the instrument console as well. It looks tedious and has nothing to offer but boring guages Just the boring guage display up front which ruins it all. Not bad actually except a few flaws here and there I feel safe in it because of all the features and it's decent driveability No problems with reliability as well. It's driving just fine and never really throws those tantrums on us As long as it drives the way it is, I don't have any problems with the price I paid and the value I like the car and I definately enjoyed my time at the dealership getting it

Bigger engine

Pros - Comfortable front row seats, caramel metallic finish, lots of get up and go

Cons - Not a lot of options on it, does not have a remote start, stiff seats at back

Equinox is overpriced as it misses out on several options which should have been included in this price Lots of get up and go of our Chevy is what makes it our fav hauler. It's always nice to have a reliable/practical option parked on the driveway and we count on it Not all the advanced features but the ones useful for daily driving. The front row enjoys the most cushy and snuggly seats. Has this contouring on edges for even more comfort. Totally opposite bench seat at back though It has a pretty good design and quality fit and finish. In caramel metallic finish, it looks absolutely stunning Sure hasn't bothered us there. May have had more features on the list though The pricing either could be better or the number of features/options should have been there in this price range Deserves more bells and whistles for the price I wouldn't be honest if I said it was the best experience of my life
