The Chevrolet Colorado is the younger sibling of the ultimate full-size Silverado pick up truck. However, even if the Silverado is quite a capable tuck, everyone would agree with the fact that it is a full size pick up truck which is very hard to maneuver in city traffic conditions and that it is a lot more expensive than what an average customer can pay. Then came the mid-size pickup truck segment and the Chevrolet Colorado quickly gained traction in the segment as it offered what the customer needed at an affordable price but the highlight was that Colorado was much more like a car to drive than a pickup truck making it easy to live with. It definitely had some help from its elder sibling, the Chevrolet Silverado but Chevrolet worked really hard to give Colorado a face and character of its own.

2021 Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab Diesel dashboard

The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab Diesel has seen lots of success in recent times because of the fact that it was so good and it had no proper full-fledged rivals to give a tough competition. But with the recent revival of the Ford Ranger series of pick up trucks, the battle is again on with Colorado losing out on some aspects. Now with the 2021 Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab Diesel, Chevrolet has brought some major design changes on the exterior making it very unique from the base models and is now ready to take on its rivals with its new avatar. Let’s have a look at what to expect from it in terms of interior space and features.

How comfortable is the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab Diesel?

The 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab Diesel is a pickup truck which means it obviously has high levels of space on the interior after all that is why one would buy a pickup truck in the first place. The front seats are well-sized and very comfortable with great levels of lumbar support and bolstering. They are also well contoured and come with heating function making it comfortable in all the conditions. The interior design of the of Colorado though could have been a little bit better as it looks a bit outdated and out of place for many years compared to the exterior design.

2021 Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab Diesel seating layout

The front seats offer an excellent view of the road up ahead and the cushioning is neither hard nor too soft. This means that undertaking long-distance journeys are a comfortable affair. At rear, Colorado offers a good amount of legroom and seating 3 at the rear is no big deal. However, there are not many features available for the rear passenger except powered windows. The dashboard design is quite plain and there is no contemporary touch that Chevy has tried to add. Overall, the interior of the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab is spacious but quite boring and utilitarian.

Every pickup truck in this segment is high on space and we can not pick one over the other by just considering the space inside the cabin. All these trucks are also equally comfortable with lots of convenience features onboard making the experience a whole lot better than what you could even find on some SUVs in its price range. That said at the rear, the 2021 Honda Ridgeline Crew Cab has a slight edge in terms of legroom and shoulder room.

How good is the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab Diesel's infotainment?

Chevrolet has worked really hard to give the 2021 Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab Diesel an upper hand in terms of the infotainment system as they have kind of messed up with the interior design of the Colorado ZR2. The basics for the infotainment system are good as it now comes with Chevrolet's Infotainment 3 Plus system which is very superior, easy to use, and responsive. Even though the dashboard design is not aesthetically appealing and feels simple, it is ergonomically well laid out making the use of control and buttons even during driving very easier.

2021 Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab Diesel infotainment system

Like always, the steering wheels also have some controls for the infotainment system making it easy to use along with Bluetooth connectivity which makes phone connectivity and handling calls smoother than ever before. You also get the myChevrolet mobile application which brings some useful features like remote vehicle start along with the onboard 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot which provides stable and fast connectivity to almost seven devices which is rather very impressive for a pickup truck in its segment. Other features include a 6 speaker standard sound system but it is worth all the money you pay for to upgrade to the available 7 speaker Bose premium sound system. And as expected, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration are available as standard.

What are the highlights of the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab Diesel's infotainment system:

  • An 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration
  • Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus infotainment system
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot
  • Standard 6 speaker sound system
  • Available 7 speaker Bose premium sound system
  • Two USB ports
  • HD Radio and SiriusXM satellite radio
  • Voice Recognition system

What are the creature comforts in the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab Diesel?

Chevrolet has not failed to pack the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab Diesel with lots of convenience features making it really comfortable for all the passengers on the inside. The creature comforts on the 2021 Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab include the likes of keyless entry, powered side view mirrors, heated wing mirrors, trailer brake controller, automatic climate control, and remote start. Other features that increase the convenience with the 2021 Colorado ZR2 include wireless charging, heated front seats, and heated steering wheel.

What is the cargo capacity on offer?

The 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab Diesel has a payload capacity of 1578 lbs along with a towing capacity of 7700 lbs. Being the ZR2 Crew Cab Diesel, the 2021 Colorado has quite some advantage in terms of both payload and towing capacity.

This makes the truck a practical as well as a versatile vehicle to live with. The practical design of the bed makes it more usable but the high loading lip means you have to pickup the luggage which can be difficult for some.

Among all of its competitors, it is the Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab Diesel which has the best payload and towing capacity but does note that it is packed with the towing package. The Ford Ranger Lariat follows very closely behind the 2021 Colorado ZR2.

What are the other storage spaces inside?

The 2021 Colorado has relatively smaller storage bins and containers on the interiors compared to other full-size trucks but it is what it is with mid-size trucks. Even though it seems a little bit on the lesser side, the 2021 Colorado is still much better than some of its rivals in the segment. The glove box is decently sized and there are two cup holders on the center console along with door pockets in the door that can hold bigger water bottles.

So, is the interior of the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab Diesel practical enough?

The 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab is a mid-size pickup truck that pretty much seals the fact that it is very practical and spacious on the inside. With the 2021 model, Chevrolet has made more improvements to the practical aspects of Colorado making it even more spaces and comfortable on the inside with lots of comfort and convenience features than most of its rivals.

A good mid-size truck

Pros - Beast like looks, great suspension, 2 locking differentials

Cons - No LED

can go for f-150 if u have the budget It isn't that fast but driving in 2WD makes it nimble, locking rear and front differentials make driving on muddy roads better buttons for most the thing rather than touch makes it easy to use while driving, the second row is cramped, seats don't recline or slide, interiors are very basic, steering wheel feels bulky Beast like loks fronm the front, front bumpers are cut out on the sides, boxy fenders with carpet finish, extra covering on the bed rails 4 star from NHTSA along with several safety features yes $45,250 very good

Robust and classy

Pros - Driving modes, ride height, rocker panel, wheels, skid plate etc

Cons - Not a thing

Although the design and performance is inclined towards offroading, to my surprise, it drives well behaved in city as well. A quality which is a myth these days. Not efficient but surely not like other truck which happen to be all over the place and need a back seat driver as well to make sure one doesn't bump into anything. The handling is not soft but nothing one can't get used to. With such a ride height, I never expected it to do incredibly well on the corners. Talking about the driving modes which takes care of the shift points to get more/less power out of the drivetrain depending upon the situation. Although the design and performance is inclined towards offroading, to my surprise, it drives well behaved in city as well. A quality which is a myth these days. Multiple package and equipment worth 3.5K. We're talking about 8'' navigation system, bose premium audio, offroading bed sports bar with offroading lights mounted, wheel locks, hood decal, beltline molding, side steps and rocker panel guard, upgraded offroading exhaust system for better ground clearance and stuff like that. Apart from this, all the standard features like cruise control, tire pressure monitor, heated power outside mirrors, wireless charging pad on center console etc are on board. The interiors remind me of a $100k luxury suv with all the premium materials used. Now I have a cabin which not just looks exceptional but feel the same as well. Not sure if there is anything Iit doesn't have that I would have asked for. Colorado has already a rugged design which got even better with all the equipment and all terrain beefy tires. Best looking truck for me and I couldn't have asked for anything better. With this ride height, I don't think one can ever feel unsafe. At least I don't My friends always complaint about reliability and fuel economy in their trucks and I find myself lucky to have ride where I just have to focus on driving. Rest of the things have been taken care by Chevy. Having said that, no vehicle is free from flaws and this one is neither, but I've always got it fixed in one visit to the dealership. Good 51grand inlcuding the taxes and options. Still cheaper than most of the offroading trucks out there and serves the purpose just fine if not better I found everything I was looking for at Tar's sitting there and as if waiting for me to drive it out. The whole process was not limited to boring paperwork.
