The Chevy Colorado is a mid-size performance-oriented and highly capable pickup truck from the American marquee automakers. The vehicle is highly practical with considerable towing and payload ratings.

The compact pickup is also easy to handle and drive when compared to its full-size sibling and other rivals which when combined with its rugged muscular exterior and imposing style makes an undeniable impression on onlookers. The new Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab is expected to come with subtle refinements but not stretching too far away from its iconic roots. The ZR2 is the highest trim level of the Crew Cab and offers both the utility of a car and a truck with astonishing dynamics, versatility, and capabilities.

2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Diesel Crew Cab Maintenance, Reliability and Warranty

Chevrolet is known for its lineup of American muscle cars that have a special place in the heart of the American workforce. The compact pickups of the manufacturers have had an average reliability score by customers for years and the 2021 Chevy Colorado is set to build on its reliable and satisfactory legacy and hopefully do even better.

The vehicle has not been rated by J.D. Power, but Chevrolet has been rated 3.5 out of 5 by RepairPal and ranked 20th out of 32 car manufacturers on the list. The rating of 3.5 is very good for a pickup truck and with its demanding life of towing and carrying loads, it can be said to be quite dependable.

The cost of owning a Colorado ZR2 for 5 years amounts close to $48K. Seeing the sticker price and nature of the vehicle, this cost can be considered reasonable.

2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Diesel Crew Cab Buying Advice

We would recommend one to buy the 2021 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab Diesel as its the pickup with the most features and offers versatile dynamics and practicality. The modern ZR2 calls for adventure and an off-road driving experience that is sure to charm everyone. The trim also comes with a plethora of unique features. The ZR2 is the costliest trim but looking at all its pros and features its good value for money.

Is buying a used Chevy Colorado Crew Cab a good idea?

The Chevy Colorado has a reputation of being a dependable truck and is mostly brought to used car dealerships once it crosses the mark of 200,000 miles. The vehicle comes with its own set of issues ranging from air conditioning problems to transmission problems but these can’t take away the fact that some pickups like Colorado can drive forever.

A used Chevy Colorado Crew Cab is a great investment as with proper care and maintenance it can easily last for about 10 years, and with GM promising its trucks only lose about 40% of their original value on the used market one can count on a used Chevy.

This said, with so few changes going on with this mid-size compact pickup one is better off buying a used Colorado as one can end up saving thousands of dollars.

2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Diesel Crew Cab Engine and Performance

8.0/10

Colorado offers a powertrain for anyone adventurous enough to do the American dirty work with a powerful and responsive 2.8L I-4 turbo diesel engine. The turbo engine is paired with an eight-speed transmission that delivers power to the rear wheels and propels the vehicle forward. The diesel engine is not as fast or powerful when compared to the gasoline V6 option but is of great help while towing, off-roading, and backcountry trekking.

2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab 2.8L I-4 Engine

The pickup drives smoothly and a well-balanced steering wheel makes it easy to handle the compact truck as it maneuvers along city or dirt roads. Overall, the ride and handling are very refined and poised.

Overall the ZR2 Crew cab performs well with impressive figures that are closely followed by the GMC and the Nissan. The best torque figures in the charts are offered by the Nissan Frontier, followed by the Chevy and the GMC. The similar powertrain figures of the two companies are not a surprise as they are owned by the same parent company.

2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Diesel Crew Cab Interior

8.0/10

The Chevy Colorado is a compact pickup with a number of standard comforts that makes it worth the money. There are no premium luxuries in the cabin, as should be expected from an off-roading rough pickup truck. This said the cabin is high on utilities and comfort with a feel of a full-size truck.

2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Diesel Crew Cab

The jet black leather upholstery seats come as standard. The seats are comfortable with ample space for the front row passengers but the rear seats can feel cramped for many. The seating capacity of the Chevy is four people which makes this old fashioned, no-nonsense cabin just big enough for a comfortable experience. A deep center console bin and a large compartment under the rear seat makes for extra storage space apart from the cargo area.

2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Diesel Crew Cab Safety

8.0/10

The 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab offers a number of safety features and has scored a five-star rating in side crash test results. It can be a worrying sign for the company that the 2020 model of Colorado did not perform really well in its safety tests issued by the NHTSA and the IIHS but Chevy has definitely worked on the drawback in the new model.

Some of the standout safety features are as follows:

  • Backup Camera
  • Tire Pressure Monitor
  • Stability Control
  • Teen Driver
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System
  • Daytime Running Lamps
  • Forward Collision Warning

2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Diesel Crew Cab Competition

7.5/10

2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab Diesel vs 2020 Toyota Tacoma CrewMax Diesel

The Tacoma along with the Chevy can handle any terrain with ease and is great for off-roading. Tacoma edges past the Chevy in the safety features department. However, the Chevy Colorado is better compared to the Toyota with better interior comfort, cargo space, fuel efficiency, and exterior stylings.

2020 Toyota Tacoma CrewMax Diesel

This said, the Chevy mostly just edges off the Toyota Tacoma. Colorado is of great value for money but one should opt for the Tacoma if one is serious about cross-country trekking and off-roading.

2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab Diesel vs 2020 GMC Canyon AT4 Crew Cab Diesel

Both the Chevy Colorado and the GMC Canyon are two cousins of the segment with various identical features like powertrain, fuel efficiency, and similar towing capacity. This said Colorado is much more refined with its interior features and exterior stylings.

2020 GMC Canyon AT4 Crew Cab Diesel

The Chevy comes with its own persona and charisma that makes people notice it while you drive and the vehicle is an out and out off-roader. The same can't be said about the GMC Canyon as it made like a mid-size working-class truck for the day to day jobs and is for a much more diverse, less adventurous customer. There are so many identical features among the two, that a choice entirely boils down to budget and what feature one prioritizes.

2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Diesel Crew Cab Final Verdict

8.5/10

The Colorado ZR2 is a very popular pickup truck from the American marquee automakers and it has a highly loyal and enthusiastic fanbase. This fanbase has formed around the pickup’s astonishing exterior looks, versatile functionality, driving dynamics, powerful towing capacity, and an aesthetic interior. The compact crew cab is high on utility and practicality too and is a sure shot worth the money and the hype around it.

One can expect the 2021 Chevy Colorado ZR2 to come with subtle refinements and the pickup is set to launch in the third quarter of 2020.

A good mid-size truck

Pros - Beast like looks, great suspension, 2 locking differentials

Cons - No LED

can go for f-150 if u have the budget It isn't that fast but driving in 2WD makes it nimble, locking rear and front differentials make driving on muddy roads better buttons for most the thing rather than touch makes it easy to use while driving, the second row is cramped, seats don't recline or slide, interiors are very basic, steering wheel feels bulky Beast like loks fronm the front, front bumpers are cut out on the sides, boxy fenders with carpet finish, extra covering on the bed rails 4 star from NHTSA along with several safety features yes $45,250 very good

Robust and classy

Pros - Driving modes, ride height, rocker panel, wheels, skid plate etc

Cons - Not a thing

Although the design and performance is inclined towards offroading, to my surprise, it drives well behaved in city as well. A quality which is a myth these days. Not efficient but surely not like other truck which happen to be all over the place and need a back seat driver as well to make sure one doesn't bump into anything. The handling is not soft but nothing one can't get used to. With such a ride height, I never expected it to do incredibly well on the corners. Talking about the driving modes which takes care of the shift points to get more/less power out of the drivetrain depending upon the situation. Although the design and performance is inclined towards offroading, to my surprise, it drives well behaved in city as well. A quality which is a myth these days. Multiple package and equipment worth 3.5K. We're talking about 8'' navigation system, bose premium audio, offroading bed sports bar with offroading lights mounted, wheel locks, hood decal, beltline molding, side steps and rocker panel guard, upgraded offroading exhaust system for better ground clearance and stuff like that. Apart from this, all the standard features like cruise control, tire pressure monitor, heated power outside mirrors, wireless charging pad on center console etc are on board. The interiors remind me of a $100k luxury suv with all the premium materials used. Now I have a cabin which not just looks exceptional but feel the same as well. Not sure if there is anything Iit doesn't have that I would have asked for. Colorado has already a rugged design which got even better with all the equipment and all terrain beefy tires. Best looking truck for me and I couldn't have asked for anything better. With this ride height, I don't think one can ever feel unsafe. At least I don't My friends always complaint about reliability and fuel economy in their trucks and I find myself lucky to have ride where I just have to focus on driving. Rest of the things have been taken care by Chevy. Having said that, no vehicle is free from flaws and this one is neither, but I've always got it fixed in one visit to the dealership. Good 51grand inlcuding the taxes and options. Still cheaper than most of the offroading trucks out there and serves the purpose just fine if not better I found everything I was looking for at Tar's sitting there and as if waiting for me to drive it out. The whole process was not limited to boring paperwork.
