Nearly a hundred years old the Chevrolet Colorado is a legend and a favorite among Americans. The muscular body-kit on Colorado exuded a much stronger appeal to the customers, while, in recent years, the driving dynamics of this truck have managed to turn a lot of heads in its direction.

The Chevy Colorado was introduced to a completely new generation last year and received an overwhelming response from the crowd. Almost all the styling has changed and the truck is much capable now from every point of view. What has stayed the same, however, is the trust which people bestowed on Colorado's powertrains.

Efficient Colorado

Pros - Comfortable, powerful and fuel efficient engine

Cons - Low fuel efficiency, airdam limits off-road capabilities

powerful and good at both city and highways but can't afford the off-road travel. The colorado is an efficient small truck which was powerful and capable of riding with ease in both city and highways. The off road capability seems to be good but i never want to try as it resists us from challenging the terrain with the low air-dam, It always inspires with the power and i go well with it in the city as a part of my work and it's steering response was impressive. The cabin features were good in this trim.

Chevy Colorado 2016

Pros - Maneuverability, safety, driving comfort

Cons - Fuel economy, price

Glorious Truck Trucks of Chevrolet are the best. I have been using them for more then a decade. This truck I got it back in 2016. Its a 4 door, short bed truck. Drive is pleasant, cabin is very nice smooth. Its throttle is thrifty, acceleration is quick, not sluggish like many trucks. Yes price might be an issue to some. Its driving abilities meet the needs of off-roading enthusiasts like most of my brothers out there. Its like a glorious truck. Its worth considering for buying.

Do it all!

Pros - Great pickup, Good offroadability, easy access rear bed

Cons - Bad on road demeanor, gas, harsh ride

Does everything you ask it to! A well appointed truck I must say. It gets a nice interior with good list of features. You get an leather wrapped steering wheel and even Iphone connectvity for the media system. The AWD system couples with the beefy engine makes it a breeze to get through the bad stuff albeit at the cost of economy. That said it is not the most drivable on smooth roads. Also the bed is preety decently sized given the cabin has lots of room on both the rows. The ride at times gets a bit harsh, but the nicely cushioned seats irons it out mostly without much of it affecting you. Russ was my man. Clear on deals fast on work. Got my hands on the truck pretty quick. Highly recommended place.

The 2016 Chevrolet Colorado adds in a new Duramax diesel engine in the line-up whicn expands the towing capacity of the Colorado to 7,700 pounds. This diesel engine provides better efficiency and thus has an improved fuel economy. The upgradation also leads to better drivability of the Colorado. If adds few infotainment features like Apple CarPlay and more driver assistive technologies. Thus the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab competes with the likes of GMC Canyon, Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier.

2016 Chevrolet Colorado Engine and Performance

6.0/10

Colorado has a couple of options here as well. The base 2.5L inline-4 engine makes 200 horsepower along with 191 foot-pounds of torque through a six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission which is exclusive for the base engine. The optional 3.6L V6 makes 305 horsepower along with 269 foot-pounds of torque and is ideal for towing heavier loads.

While gasoline options end here, one could also ask for a diesel-powered Colorado which has an even better torque curve. Meanwhile, the ride 2016 Chevrolet Colorado feels polished and confident on roads. Handling feels secure, with relatively little body lean when you're driving around turns, which normally is not the observation in many trucks.

Colorado shares its DNA with the GMC Canyon, both of which get the same engines. Acceleration on the Chevy Colorado is not the best and behaves like a much heavier truck than it is. 9.2 seconds to 60 MPH is too slow to be a light and easy pick up, don’t you think? On the contrary, the Toyota Tacoma makes 40 HP less and still manages to reach 60 MPH in just 7.3 seconds. Even the Nissan Frontier has better acceleration than the Chevrolet.

2016 Chevrolet Colorado Fuel Economy

7.6/10

The extra bit of power on the Chevy Colorado does not mean to harm its economic nature in any way. The base Colorado with an inline 4 engine and a manual shifter is rated at 19 mpg, 26 highway and 22 combined as per the EPA ratings, equipping the same with the automatic transmission the numbers are increased to 20 mpg, 27 highway and 22 combined while the addition of four-wheel-drive decreases the mileage to 19 mpg, 25 highway and 21 combined. Both the engines are still left with enough power to carry on with heavy loads.

The competitors have nothing extraordinary to say, apart from the fact that we manage to beat the refinement of the Japanese counterparts this time. Not by much though, as both the Toyota Tacoma and Frontier produce around 21 Miles to gallon combined, only one mile less than the Chevy Colorado. However, the fuel tank capacities of all the trucks in business are more or less the same.

2016 Chevrolet Colorado Interior

8.0/10

The Cabin is spacious with lots of in-cab storage as well, in terms of comfort the seats are plush. As compared to its rivals the Chevy Colorado feels miles ahead, the whole layout and visual bit seem much more modern as compared to the likes of what Toyota or Nissan offers in their trucks.

The Chevy Colorado has somewhat skinny front seats, but it's surrounded by good space (especially headroom), a well-finished dash, and lots of small storage slots, bins, and trays. The driving position alone would convince us to upgrade.

Colorado's interior and space efficiency are light-years ahead of the Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier. 2016 Chevrolet Colorado Infotainment:

All Colorados come with vinyl seats, but they also get a rearview camera; a locking tailgate; tilt steering; power windows; air conditioning; and an AM/FM radio with a USB port and a 4.2-inch touchscreen interface. On the connectivity front, Bluetooth is available, as is the Chevy MyLink touchscreen interface with an 8.0-inch screen (on LT and Z71 Colorados) and multiple USB ports for charging and music storage.

MyLink now includes Apple CarPlay functionality, which lets the touchscreen do double duty as a mirrored display for some iPhone apps, from phone and messaging utilities to music and mapping software. Navigation is also an option on the Chevy Colorado, as is GM's OnStar service and 4G LTE connectivity, with some service provided for free during a trial period.

2016 Chevrolet Colorado Exterior

8.0/10

the Chevy Colorado unlike the Canyon adopts a sleeker and modern design and ditches most of the rectangular and boxy design language that the Canyon follows, however, the protruding fenders do add some machismo to the overall look. The front grille has been trimmed down to a slimmer design which gives the Chevy Colorado a friendly face. It’s easy to use, too, thanks to the standard CornerStep rear bumper that makes it easy to get into the bed, and the available EZ Lift-and-Lower tailgate, which allows you to lift the tailgate with one hand.

While there’s no mistaking the 2016 Chevy Colorado for anything but a midsize pickup truck, the curves and lines are softened away from the in-your-face boldness that’s found on today’s full-size trucks, and even the new Toyota Tacoma. Overall, the Chevy Colorado may have ditched some of the design cues of a traditional pickup but it still is every bit as capable in terms of performance.

2016 Chevrolet Colorado Safety

7.0/10

In government crash testing, the Chevy Colorado extended cab earned an overall rating of four out of five stars, with four stars for overall frontal crash protection and a full five stars for side-impact safety. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Chevy Colorado crew cab its highest possible rating of "Good" in its moderate-overlap frontal-offset crash test, the only test conducted as of this writing.

Standard safety features on the new Chevrolet Colorado include antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, trailer sway control, front-seat side-impact airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, and a rearview camera. Some of the Safety Features are-

  • StabiliTrak electronic stability control system
  • All-speed traction control
  • Daytime Running Lamps
  • 6 airbags
  • Rear Vision Camera
  • Teen Driver
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System

2016 Chevrolet Colorado Final Verdict

Being a midsize pickup the Chevrolet Colorado provides a versatile vehicle that serves as a work truck whenever needed while not sacrificing the daily drivability and urban maneuverability. As compared to the competition it lacks the off-road ability of the Tacoma and top get that one has to go for the Z71 trim which is specifically built with harsh terrains in mind and is pricier than the Tacoma. Overall, the Chevy Colorado is a versatile package that will surely impress anyone who prefers it.
