The modern-day Chevrolet Blazer RS is a performance-oriented mid-size crossover, flaunting such muscular looks to die for. The 2020 model year recieves a similar 3.6L V6 powertrain as its predecessor. This Camaro styled SUV is unique in its class, priced at an overwhelming $43,500. The utilitarian mid-size rivals such as Lexus RX 350 or Cadillac XT5 may not offer aggressive looks but are easier to use in the daily commute. Further muscular car aesthetics charms the interior.

Overall Rating

The new Chevrolet Blazer RS is powered by a 3.6L V6 engine pumping 308 hp and 270 pound-feet of torque. The RS is mated with a 9-speed automatic transmission in a standard, advanced all-wheel-drive. Both on the inside and the outside, the Camaro effect is clearly visible. The drive includes driver shift control but no paddle shifters. The Blazer RS blazing looks and able performance is available at $43,500.

This Camaro styled SUV looks unique standing in the crowd. The 2020 Blazer RS flaunts massive Grille, RS signature High-Gloss Black hexagonal design with Black Ice header bar, Black bowtie emblem and RS badging. From inside as well, the Blazer RS has been crafted with finesse but lacks rear passenger headroom. The sloping roofline is the culprit here but it gives a sharp look to the Blazer RS. The RS is equipped with adequate safety features and the infotainment system from GM is hard to resist.

Nothing is perfect neither is the Blazer RS. The aggressive and muscular design is admirable but the lack-luster transmission diminishes the sporty stature of the 2020 BLazer RS. Further, the sub-par agility makes it an off-road city ride only. Clearly, The Chevrolet Blazer RS offers to style and convenience, it lacks the comfort and utility of its rivals such as Lexus RX 350 or Cadillac XT5.

2020 Chevrolet Blazer RS Features

8.0/10

The Chevrolet Blazer RS is a performance version of the all-new Blazer that offers a sinister-looks with a blacked-out appearance different from other 2020 Blazer models. The Chevy Blazer, a near-fully loaded RS with all-wheel drive, costs around $50,000. The RS model starts at $43,500 with front-wheel drive.

The Blazer RS can be distinguished from its other Blazer siblings from a unique pattern grille with Chevrolet bowtie logos and nameplate lettering. The Chevrolet Cargo Management system which includes a rail system and cargo fence to secure items comes standard. The available powertrain, similar to its predecessor clubbed with twin-clutch AWD system helps optimizing traction in every condition.

What do we recommend?

The Chevrolet Blazer RS packages the most advanced driver-assist and safety features than its counterparts. The on-point performance and exquisite design are the hallmarks of Blazer RS. If you want a powerful SUV that looks good or you want to stand out while hauling your family, Blazer RS is worth a look.

2020 Chevrolet Blazer RS Engine and Performance

8.0/10

The 3.6-Litre V6 engine under the hood is as charming as the looks of Blazer RS. The 308 horsepowers drive the 4246 pounds Blazer RS all-wheels with equally good thrust even from a still position. The 270 pound-feet of torque is punchy and accomplishes the muscular might which sets a perfect tone for the Chevrolet Blazer RS. In Sport mode, the powertrain can be crunched even more.

2020 Chevrolet Blazer RS SUV Engine
The 3.6-Litre V6 engine under the hood is as charming as the looks of Blazer RS

The V6 is breathtaking, but the laggy nine-speed transmission doesn’t let to stay back on your driving seat. The transmission seems lost searching the right gear and quite slow on downshifting. The transmission works mindlessly and is the sole factor holding back the performance of Blazer RS.

How fast is the Blazer RS of 2020 model year?

The V6 equipped 2020 Blazer RS accelerates with vigor and inspires confidence when passing on a highway. With an all-wheel-drive, it takes the SUV an impressive 6.3 seconds to hit 60 miles per hour.

The automatic transmission is slow to respond and loses way during downshifts. The transmission isn’t obedient to the gear shifter knobs. Though its a wonder that RS doesn’t offer the paddle shifters, which would have added to the aesthetics.

The Chevrolet Blazer RS holds an average curb weight, surely not the heaviest in the class. With impressive braking performance, it gives stiff confidence to a more utilitarian option of Cadillac XT5 and a luxurious option of Lexus RX 350 series.

What about the ride quality and handling of Blazer RS?

The Blazer RS deserves to know as Chevrolet’s best driving crossover. It has proved its worth with a composed and confident ride quality and handling. The steering response to the inputs during spirited driving on highways is as accurate and precise as its fluidic behavior on turns in the city. The tuned suspension absorbs the bumps with ease but the 20-inches tires wore by the Blazer RS restricts a smooth and quieter ride.

2020 Chevrolet Blazer RS SUV Steering Wheel

The Blazer sport a well-controlled body roll and shows agility during cornering. Also, the larger 20-inches wheels disrupt ride quality when compares with the 18-inch wheel Blazers. Also, the longer wheelbase plays a silent role in accomplishing a steady and cruising drive that the Blazer RS offers.

2020 Chevrolet Blazer RS Fuel Economy

5.0/10

The Chevrolet Blazer RS all-wheel drive gets 1 mpg less on the highway as well as city from its front-wheel-drive counterpart which is EPA estimated at 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The Blazer RS as an average-sized fuel tank of 19.4 L with a city cruising range of 390.60 miles.

The Chevrolet Blazer is equipped with start-stop technology to enhance fuel efficiency. The system can not be deactivated in Blazer siblings other than Blazer RS.

The Chevrolet Blazer RS is on-par in terms of fuel economy with the Cadillac XT5 Sport and lower than a similarly equipped Lexus RX 350 F-Sport.

2020 Chevrolet Blazer RS Interior

The Blazer RS offers top features along with great build quality interior with an ability to seat five passengers. The passenger-side dashboard and atop the door panels, the Camaro inspired interior shows some nice leather. An intuitive climate-control system that features vent-mounted A/C controls with upscale touch can be related to its pony sibling. The screen feels extremely flimsy. The Blazer also offers ambient interior lighting, heated and ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats. The front seats are well-bolstered and accompany a comfortable ride over long journeys. The back seat had plenty of stretch-out space, however, are fairly flat. The seats are positioned at perfect angles.

2020 Chevrolet Blazer RS SUV Front Sheets
2020 Chevrolet Blazer RS SUV Front Seats

The aggressive design of the BLazer RS comes at a cost of darn rear headroom and cargo capacity. With the goods, Blazer also shares the worsts of Camaro: poor outward visibility. The NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) fills the cabin, disappointing noise absorption. Also, the placement of certain buttons and knobs irk the driving experience due to their awkward placement.

The dual-tone, color-coordinated buttons acre easily accessible while driving. Also, the touchscreen is responsive to the easy-to-use layout.

The Chevrolet Blazer RS for the 2020 model year features 31 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 64 with the seats folded which are able to fit 11 suitcases. The interior offers plentiful storage solutions for small items. There's a decent-size cubby and the bin offers good space but lacks better organization.

The all-wheel-drive versions can tow up to 4500 pounds. Also, Blazer RS’s tall liftover height makes it difficult to load heavy and bulky items. That said, the inclusion of clever cargo rail systems helps in securing items of varying lengths and sizes.

Of course, the Blazer RS offers the most advanced driver-assistance technology. In case of unavoidable circumstances, the competent airbags spread across the cabin will be at the rescue. Key safety features include:

  • Forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking
  • Lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • HD rear vision camera
  • Tire pressure monitor
  • Dual-note horn

2020 Chevrolet Blazer RS Competition

Chevrolet Blazer RS Vs Lexus RX 350 F-Sport

The Chevrolet Blazer RS comes with the standard all-wheel-drive which leads to better handling and acceleration. Surely, the front-wheel-drive Lexus offers better mpg ratings. The RX 350 F-Sport is roomier and offers even roomier rear. The utility cargo capacity of the RX 350 family is another aspect to look out for. The Chevrolet offers sharp looks where the Lexus offers incomparable luxury.

Chevrolet Blazer RS Vs Cadillac XT5 Sport

The Cadillac XT5 sport combines a pleasant ride with athletic handling. The interior space is generous than on the Blazer. Though both share a problem of impaired outward visibility. Further, the Chevy Blazer’s design is unique and the trade-off with below-average cargo. Apart from Cadillac’s American ingenuity, it shouldn’t be the first choice considering the pricing.

Chevrolet Blazer RS Vs Dodge Durango R/T

The Dodge Durango is a seven-seater large SUV. This comparison brings out a choice for the buyers if they want a large SUV with mighty power. The Dodge offers ample space, hefty towing and adequate standard features at a similar price of Chevrolet Blazer RS. one will have to consider the lower fuel efficiency of the V8. Also, it depends on the purpose: power and styling make Chevrolet Blazer RS an apt choice but power and space lead us to Dodge Durango.

2020 Chevrolet Blazer RS Final Verdict

The 2020 model year Chevrolet Blazer RS is a part of its 2019 edition. With superior design and styling, the Chevrolet stands tall. Also, the power of the V6 is enthusiatic. The driving dynamics make it a fun-to-drive car with agile handling. The rear cabin feels cramped and the cargo space won’t allow you to haul bulkier items, Blazer lacks utility. The lack-luster transmission and haphazard control placement are other drawbacks. Prioritizing power and looks? Surely, have a look at Blazer RS.
