Chevrolet has brought out the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer. The rugged body of the car, combined with the turbocharged engine, from last year, the Blazer is going to compete at the big boy's table in the midsize segment. Furthermore, the exterior styling of the car hasn't deviated from the 2021 Chevrolet Blazer, which is still sporty and plush. Speaking of the plush exteriors, the interior is also supposed to get a few tweaks, making it feel more refined and comfortable.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer is going to compete with rivals like the Ford Edge, Hyundai Santa Fe, and the Toyota RAV4. Let's see if the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer is actually ready for this year’s competition or not. We don't expect a significant increase in the price but that's something that will be confirmed in the future. The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer gets you the same 2.5L naturally aspirated engine making 193 hp. To get the 230 hp 2.0-liter turbocharged engine you will have to get the 2LT, 3LT, and Premier trims, with an expected starting MSRP of $34,295.

2022 Chevrolet Blazer Pricing and Features

With Chevrolet offering the 2021 Blazer in a total of 6 trims- L, 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, RS and Premier, we expect the company to maintain the same lineup for 2022 as well. However, as seen on many other cars in the segment, the companies are making it a trend of combining some trims and reducing the overall trims in the car. Nothing is clear for now but we do know that Chevrolet will be offering a lot more in terms of features for the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer.

2022 Chevrolet Blazer Engine and Performance

If you talk about the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer SS, the car is supposed to receive a turbocharged V6 engine, which is rated to crank out 404HP and 400lb-ft of torque. This enables the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer SS to pull 5 adults with ease and show off a bit too. However, speaking of the base variant, the powertrain is supposed to remain unchanged, with the 2.5L inline-4 engine, which pours out a decent 200+ horses to the table. The optional transmission on the new Blazer includes a 10-speed automatic transmission, which is supposed to be a standard in 2S and 3S trim levels.

As compared to its 2021 rivals, the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer is not too heavily powered. It's amongst the top performers, but the Ford Edge beats it in terms of raw power. Also, the Toyota RAV4 is slightly overpowered. However, we expect a better powertrain in the new 2022 Chevrolet Blazer, which may outperform the competitors.

Acceleration And Braking

A hazy transmission and a mediocre engine are certainly not part of the equation that evaluates the eagerness of any car. Unsurprisingly though, the front-wheel-drive only Blazer with the 2.5-liter engine runs from 0-60 mph in 8.1 seconds. A similarly priced Hyundai Santa Fe stands out as the most compelling product among its rivals.

The braking department in the Chevy Blazer is headed by ventilated discs with ABS in all four corners. The brake pedal feels firm and strong and actively responds to driver inputs. All trims come equipped with the same braking apparatus and the base ‘L’ stopped from 60-0 in 126 feet.

Ride and Handling

Take the Blazer out for a spin and in no time you realize how well it drives. Its driving dynamics very well complement its sporty and aggressive exterior appeal. It offers a comfortable ride quality with the suspension being very observant. However, when equipped with a larger set of 21-inch wheels, the ride quality does degrade by a fair extent. The steering wheel is very precise in its business making it a sporty and agile handler.

2022 Chevrolet Blazer Fuel Economy

With the turbocharged engine, even the 2021 Chevrolet Blazer wasn't much of an efficient drive. However, the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer is expected to give out an average MPG of 21 in the city, 27 on the highway, and 23 combined.

The fuel tank capacity (taken from the 2021 model year) is 19.4 gallons, which pushes the highway range of the car up to 524 miles, which is great when it comes to cruising through the country roads. However, we expect an update in the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer’s fuel tank size, which may put the highway range closer to the 600-mile mark.

As compared to the competitors of the 2021 model year, the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer is at par with the competition. However, the 2021 Toyota RAV4 surpasses the Blazer by a massive 35 MPG on the highway, but the smaller fuel tank makes it suffer on longer trips. The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer comes with the largest fuel tank in the segment, and an average MPG figure, which is what takes its range to a much better level in comparison to the competition.

2022 Chevrolet Blazer Interior

The interior of the Chevrolet Blazer receives some touch up as compared to the previous year's model. This year-round, the manufacturer has made the car’s interior more sporty with high-performance elements inside the cabin. Also, they have lowered the suspensions a bit, which does make the car feel a bit more sporty.

Speaking of comfort, the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer is equipped enough to comfortably seat 5 passengers inside the cabin. The rear row is well spaced out for adults as well as children. Also, the premium trims receive luxury features like leather upholstery and an upscale infotainment system as standard.

As compared to the competition from the 2021 model year, the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer is not the most spacious car in the segment. The ford edge is what outshines the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer in terms of space. However, in terms of opulence, the ford edge doesn't rival the laser, which is an advantage for people looking for luxury.

What about the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer’s Infotainment unit?

Every 2021 Chevrolet Blazer is equipped with an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus System with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. A sensible display layout allowing you to create multiple driver profiles with predefined climate, audio, and lighting preferences, and USB ports for the front and back rows. The base trim levels offer a good 6-speaker sound system, which can be upgraded to an 8-speaker Bose premium sound system (standard on the LT3 and Premier trims).

2022 Chevrolet Blazer Exterior

Speaking of the exteriors, the overall layout of the car is similar to the previous year's models. The newer model comes in four colorways, which now includes a full black trim, which looks absolutely premium. The front grille and the exhaust system remain the same, which indicates no major powertrain changes as well.

The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer is going to be one of the heaviest cars in the segment. With a weight of over 3700 lbs and a lowered suspension, you can expect a much more stable drive and nimble handling. Also, the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer has one the largest wheelbase in the segment, making it stand out in the traffic.

2022 Chevrolet Blazer Safety

As mentioned earlier, the manufacturer has worked more on providing safety to its consumers. This makes them include an additional safety package, which includes, forward collision warning and mitigation system, forward pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and even automatic headlights. In addition to these, the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer also receives the safety features from the previous year model, which includes:

  • 7-airbags
  • stability control
  • latch system
  • tire pressure monitoring system
  • a rear-view camera, etc.

2022 Chevrolet Blazer Competition

Chevrolet Blazer vs Toyota Rav4

The Rav4 has been Toyota’s best-selling SUV for all the right reasons. The Chevy Blazer might flash its youthful and stylish attire, but it doesn't catch up with the Rav4’s overall utility. Unlike the city-dwelling Blazer, the Rav4 carries some serious off-roading skills and feels more solid and robust. The Rav4’s new engine might seem underpowered and not as intriguing as the Blazer, but it very well balances its multi-utility. The interior space is slightly more cramped than the Blazer, but the fit and finish, as well as the interior layout, are far better than the Chevy.

Chevrolet Blazer vs Hyundai Santa Fe

The elegant and classy Korean is one of the most value-bound products in its segment. Unlike the Blazer’s sporty ambitions, the Santa Fe focuses more on comfort and convenience. It might not be as good as the Chevy in handling, but it offers a far better ride quality and comfort. Compared to the Blazer, the Santa Fe is miles ahead in terms of interior fit and finish and feature packaging.

2022 Chevrolet Blazer Final Verdict

The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer is expected to be priced around the $30,000 mark, which is justified with what the car has to offer. Also, the car is expected to be out in the fall of 2021, which is what can be said about the launch, after analyzing the manufacturer’s usual release dates. Overall, if you’re interested to pick up the Camaro's heavy sister, then you should definitely keep an eye out for the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer.
