2020 Cadillac XT5 SUV Reliability, JD Power Report, Recalls and Warranty
Updated on: October 8, 2020
The XT5 holds a record of being one of the bestselling models of Cadillac, and to keep that record intact, Cadillac has made it’s 2020 XT5 even more promising. The XT5 gets a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine as standard, while a new Sports trim has been added that comes with a 3.6L V-6. The 2020 Cadillac XT5 is a good SUV in itself, but the luxury SUV market being laden with other top brands, the XT5 finds it hard to stand out.
Cadillac is not a brand that is overtly known for its impressive reliability. On the contrary, the Cadillac cars rank quite low as compared to other carmakers. Neither does it offer very high peace of mind and owner satisfaction. In fact, as per the Consumer Report’s list of most reliable cars in 2019, the Cadillac ranked the lowest at 28 out of 29.
The 2020 Cadillac XT5, although it has been equipped with various safety and security equipment and advanced features, remains to make a mark in terms of reliability. Considering the past record of the vehicle and the brand, it is to be seen how far Cadillac has worked towards improving the quality and reliability of the vehicle.
J D Power Report
The J D Power Ratings are quite dependable and provides great assistance in judging a car’s performance, as the ratings are based on the unbiased and independent reviews given by car owners. However, the J D Power ratings for the 2020 Cadillac XT5 is unavailable till now. However, we can get a hint as to what can be expected, from the ratings given to the 2019 model of the XT5.
The 2019 XT5 has received an overall 79 points out of 100 from J D power, which is not quite bad in itself but does not match the industry standard. Apart from that, the XT5 has been associated with 79 points for reliability and quality, which is again a moderate rating. For driving experience and dealership experience, the car has been rated at 74 and 85 points respectively, indicating that Cadillac has done a good job at satisfying the customers through their dealerships, although the drive quality is not up to the mark.
An interesting thing to note here that although Cadillac has been consistently deprived of a higher position among its competitors in terms of reliability, as far as recalls of its vehicles are concerned, Cadillac has recorded significantly fewer recalls. The 2020 Cadillac XT5 has zero recall against its name, and so did the 2019 model. Although a few stray complaints have been recorded, Cadillac did not feel that any of them was grave enough to recall it’s vehicle. This surely indicates a good sign of the car’s quality.
Cadillac has offered a greater warranty coverage for its 2020 XT5 than what most of its rivals offer. Only the Lexus RX350 has a similar warranty coverage. The 2020 XT5 comes with:
- Bumper-to-bumper Limited Warranty coverage for 4 years or 50,000 miles;
- Powertrain Limited Warranty coverage for 6 years or 70,000 miles;
- Roadside Assistance coverage for 6 years or 70,000 miles.
The extended Powertrain Warranty and Roadside Assistance is better than most of the cars in this segment including the 2020 Audi Q8 and Mercedes-Benz GLE.
The 2020 Cadillac XT5 offers some appealing design and convenient features no doubt. But the SUV finds it hard to compete with other vehicles in the segment, especially because of its sluggish performance and poor drive quality. The car is not much fun to drive, and the luxury quotient is also below par. For the price that it demands, buyers need to further muse over the idea of choosing the 2020 XT5 or any of its better-performing rivals.
