The BMW X7 is the full-size three-row SUV to rival some of the segment giants like the Range Rover. The 2020 BMW X7 will not be easy to recognize, as BMW's kidney grille has expanded dramatically here, symbolizing the car’s luxury status. The bigger grille proved somewhat questionable amongst BMW fans.

BMW likes to call the X7 a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) which is a great combination of aggressive design and superb agility. Also, the muscular, flared wheel housings accentuate the character of the vehicle that seeks routes off the beaten path.

Safety

BMW’s are built to last for a long period of time and they never compromise in terms of driver and passenger safety. The 2020 X7 comes with a long list of standard safety and driver-assistance features, of which the most prominent is the Active Driving Assistant that includes Frontal Collision Warning with City Collision Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning, Active Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Daytime Pedestrian Protection. The BMW X7 has numerous airbags, electronic stability control, and tire-pressure monitoring.

What features make the BMW X7 safe?

BMW has added a lot of things to protect you and your car, on or off the road. State of the art technology features like the Adaptive BMW Laserlight extends the maximum illumination range in high-beam mode up-to 530 meters. Its Active Protection takes precaution in a critical situation and brakes the vehicle automatically in case of an accident. Some other notable safety features in the 2020 BMW X7 are :

  • Driving Assistant Professional offers optimum comfort and maximum safety during lots of critical or monotonous driving situations with Steering and lane control assistant, local Hazard warning, Lane Keeping Assistant with active side collision protection and other safety functions.
  • Active cruise control with Stop & Go function maintains a pre-defined distance from the car ahead, including stopping and restarting in stop-and-go traffic. Speed Limit Assist allows the takeover of speed limits in the cruise control.
  • The Steering and Lane Control Assistant can be activated to support you in monotonous traffic. At speeds of up to 210km/h on all road surfaces with Active cruise control, the system conveniently supports steering and keeps the vehicle in the center of its lane.
  • Parking Assistant Plus makes parking and maneuvering the vehicle easier. It features among others the Surround View system including Top View, Panorama View, and Remote View 3D, as well as a lateral parking aid.

For the 2020 Model, BMW provides a $1,700 Driver Assistance package that adds Lane Keep Assist and Semi-autonomous traffic-jam assistance while the $800 Parking Assistance Package equips the BMW X7 with the Surround view-parking camera system and a hands-free parallel park assist. All the standard safety features & technology is carried forward from the base X7 to the xDrive50i. Other than that, the BMW X7 xDrive50i also gets a Drive Recorder and a Parking Assistant Plus with surround-view cameras with 3D-view & Active Park Distance control, as standard.

Final Verdict

BMW X7 is the best example of the German automaker which highlights pure sophistication in the race-bred dynamics. For some, the X7 might not have met the expectations of purists but for everyone, it is an astonishingly good SUV. Inside-out, X7 caters to all your functional and non-functional requirements, from the utmost comfort & luxury to ample future-proof technological features. This premium luxury SUV is not just aggressive from the looks but offers neck-snapping acceleration. For its size, the handling is way beyond thrilling while the ride quality is truly impressive. The 2020 BMW X7 is not yet rated for its safety and crashworthiness but it comes equipped with a comprehensive list of advance safety features to keep your peace of mind.

The X7 is a premium luxury full-size SUV that hasn't been crash-tested by the NHTSA or the IIHS. Reassuringly, BMW equips the 2020 X7 with a comprehensive set of active and passive safety features, so the X7 is likely to perform similarly well.

Cons - Offroading, Too many steering mounted buttons, Rear visibility

Safety Review

7 /10 Safety Rating

Windshield at the back is what happens to be taking away some sense of security. If you're anyone who doesn't care about his/her car even if the paint is ripping off from driver window and that front lip spoiler is in shambles, you'd do great in an X7. P.S, didn't happen yet but would have if I took it for sand bashing.

BMW X7

Drives like a normal SUV when in town but when on the freeway it absolutely flies! Could not have asked for a better SUV than BMW X7. It is FUN, capable, practical, and comfortable. The ride quality is smooth and so is the power delivery.

BMW X7 is a symbol of class with performance

Decently designed powertrain and well executed drivetrain. The refined engine produces max torque at low rpms where it gets going with minimum foot weight on the pedal. Not an exception for impeccable acceleration as well and does a pretty good job in quater mile-ish sprints.

A wrong step there

So the very first thing that lets a driver ease up while driving are those run flat tires thereby giving a sense of safety. Apart from that, bmw's are supposed to be good when the question is driving and this one is no different. I however think they stepped in an unknown territory with the offroading package that adds a few dedicated equipment and features but lacks that factor of robustness. Dri...
