The 2021 BMW X3 Plug-in Hybrid really completes the prestige of the German brand, which rarely looks like a cumbersome heavy vehicle. This plug-in hybrid version of the famous X3 series rivals the Audi Q5 hybrid, Lexus NX 300h, and Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e and continues to stand as BMW’s best hybrid model.

2021 BMW X3 plug-in-hybrid SUV

The X3 was the first model of BMW to deliver plug-in hybrid as well as gas versions. The drivetrain in the BMW X3 Plug-in Hybrid is the same as that in the BMW 530e. Although the BMW X3 is a bit heavy, it does not affect its performance and continues to build BMW’s legacy for building excellent cars.

What powers the 2021 BMW X3 Plug-in Hybrid?

The 2021 BMW X3 Plug-in Hybrid is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that cranks out 181 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. This engine is augmented by an eDrive motor that further adds 107 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. This electric motor can alone run the vehicle. When combined, the overall output of the 2021 BMW X3 Plug-in Hybrid is 288 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed ZF automatic transmission makes shifting the gears much easier.

When turned on, the electric power comes into play as default like other BMW hybrids. The vehicle runs in Auto eDrive mode where the vehicle decides the right mix of electric and gas for best efficiency. When you choose to maintain energy during use, you can decide a specific amount of battery charge to maintain through battery control mode. Also, the Max eDrive mode allows the vehicle to run in electric mode for city use.

The pricey Audi Q5 Hybrid produces high power and torque figures when compared to its rivals. Although the Mercedes-Benz GLC 3503e is more expensive than the BMW X3 xDrive30e, it produces less power and torque. The Lexus NX 300h stands last on the table with low power and torque figures.

How quick is the 2021 BMW X3 Plug-in Hybrid?

Thanks to the hybrid engine, the performance output is high. As claimed by BMW, the vehicle takes 5.9 seconds to burn its tires to 60 mph. The engine is designed in such a way that when quick power is necessary, the engine, motor, and the transmission unit work together to produce a quick improvement.

2021 BMW X3 plug-in-hybrid SUV accelerate 0-60 mph in 5.9 sec

If the vehicle is driven faster, it stops because at higher revs the engine blows away but the output remains sufficient. The BMW X3 Plug-in Hybrid takes 15.1 seconds to complete the quarter-mile test. This vehicle is recognized as a fuel-efficient vehicle rather than a drag racer. The top speed can go as high as 130 mph.

Undoubtedly, the Audi Q5 hybrid takes the lead in the acceleration as well as the quarter-mile test. Next online is the X3 Plug-in Hybrid whose top speed shares with the Q5 Hybrid and the GLC 350e. The Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e performs quite decently in the acceleration test but the NX 300h is still down with figures.

How are the brakes on the 2021 BMW X3 Plug-in Hybrid?

It is easy to control the soft brake pedal. Also, you can quickly resist the repetitive panic stops with the optional performance brakes. The spongy brake feel is the only whinge in the 2021 BMW X3 Plug-in Hybrid. The brake pedal travel is long and comes into effect after halfway.

However, the regenerating brakes are smoother and work perfectly. In the brake test, the BMW X3 Plug-in Hybrid took 114 feet to completely halt the vehicle.

No wonder, the Q5 Hybrid stood first in all the segments and completed the braking test with 112 feet of braking distance. The X3 Plug-in Hybrid and the GLC 350e share almost the same braking distance but as usual, the NX 300h is the lowest performer among its rivals.

How does the 2021 BMW X3 Plug-in Hybrid handle?

Although the batteries contribute to the large weight of the vehicle, the BMW X3 Plug-in Hybrid is spectacular on a twisty road. Its flat, meaty tires stick to the road and give huge confidence to the drivers. With its accurate steering and nimble handling, the BMW X3 offers the best driving experience.

With different drive modes, the vehicle can easily be modulated on highways or in the city. A smooth ride is a common attribute in all BMW models.

Is the 20210 BMW X3 Plug-in Hybrid good in terms of performance?

BMW wanted to electrify all its models and started off with the BMW X3 Plug-in Hybrid. The engine is well-designed with good fuel economy figures. The Auto eDrive is the main highlight of the vehicle that is perfectly engineered. Its smooth handling and decent brakes make it one of the best hybrid crossover performers on the planet.

Bmw is not economical

Pros - Good engine output and fuel economy

Cons - Oil leaks, and digital instrument cluster malfunction

High price and maintainance, repair costs BMW cars needs high maintainance costs and it was all about high price in the beginning and then the small small issues cause alot of pocket cuttings. The maintainance and the issues like oil leaks, and digital instrument cluster malfunction were very costly. It needs expensive maintainance.

My new X3

Pros - Roomy, DRLs are the coolest

Cons - Visibility, comfort, navigation

One of the most reliable vehicle My X3 is a great performer! Far better than expected! The engine is very smooth and the automatic is quick and precise in gear shifts. A rear camera so you can see when backing up. Pretty perfect on the inside or at least close. All the features and functionality has been laid out aligned to the driver. One thing BMW didn mess up is styling! It is stunning!!. Safety package is done right. Relatively new car,so no issues till date. Got a great deal. Good buying experience

Plug in hybrid with BMW's tag!

Pros - Brake regeneration, overall mpg, can be charged as well

Cons - Lost the Bmw's exhaust grunt, and the screen glare is noticeable

2021 X3 hybrid is the best suv by far. Well a bmw that can be charged as well and also knows how to drift past the gas stations without looking. One thing, it has turned a lot sissier than how bmws are percieved Electric motor and battery fitted in. Hate the screen glare especially when it's sunny out there. No issues with the seats or space A lot sissier/feeble than how BMW's are actually perceived. As techy and advanced it is, there isn't much to worry about The best bmw because of it's economical nature and ability to be charged as well Above 50k if pricing is in question. Value is even better than all the other bmw suvs because of its economical nature I called them up to see if they had the 2021 line up and I got a positive answer. Went there to see the options in person and got this amazing economical car at a very good price and excellent customer service.
