With the crowd moving more towards crossover styled vehicles, compact coupe-SUV crossovers like the BMW X2 have become more preferrable. Referred by BMW as their new Sport Activity Coupe, the BMW X2’s looks were inspired from rally cars. BMW claims that this car is inspired by the world of rally racing. However, the stiffer sport suspension might not help the cause much. The 2021 BMW X2 continues to cater to that urban section where people would not mind the compromised rear row.

Design-wise the X2 is definitely beter looking than the X1. With no third window, the X2 ends up having a large C-pillar which is punctuated by the BMW. It harks back to 3.0CSL days, so as far as a retro touch is concerned, the X2 is aptly designed. With two engine options, the X2 shoots out 301 hp in the most powerful offering the M35i. While M Sport trim adds both aggressive and sleek styling to the body. The BMW X2 still needs to watch out Audi Q3Volvo XC40, and Mercedes Benz GLA 250 to be the people's choice.

2021 BMW X2 Features

8.1/10

The core models of the 2021 BMW X2 include the sDrive28i and the xDrive28i. Both vehicles feature the same 2.0L TwinPower Turbocharged inline-4 engine. The sDrive28i has a starting price of $36,600 and the xDrive28i will set you back at $38,600. Both trims are fairly equipped with most of the luxury that is available in the markets.

However, it does miss out on a bigger infotainment screen, a digital cluster, and some touch-buttons that can be found in expensive BMW models. The interior of the BMW X2 is old-school yet contemporary and that makes Sports Activity Coupe stay relevant in the market.

2021 BMW X2 Maintenance, Reliability and Warranty

BMW is one of the most hyped automotive brands, that has been delivering quality products since inception. Like its German rivals Audi and Mercedes, BMW advances in fitting smaller yet power-thirst engine blocks. The equipment is highly advanced and has been proved to last for decades. Performance charts have always been high and as one sits behind the wheels, the legacy of the Bavarian brand is reflected with a slight push to the pedal. Fit and Finish is premium with high-quality material always being the catch of BMW, along with advanced intuitive tech support inside cabin. However, as far as official reliability figures goes, J.D. Power’s rating position it as an “Above Average” car.

Reliability and Ownership cost

For a vehicle that starts north of $35,000, the X2 comes off across as somewhat of a reasonable. But as the year passes by maintenance works increases as it happened in our test ride. Where in the fourth year every now and then there minute issues that were popping up that pushed maintenance costs by a good sizeable number. With a depreciation value of almost 10% to 15%, return value will somewhere down the line burn a big hole in your pocket.

2021 BMW X2 Buying Advice

The BMW X2, like its older sibling, the X1, offers best-in-class technology, spotlight-stealing aesthetic appeal, and effective fuel efficiency. Both the engines are enjoyable and stylish accessories makes the X2 an attractive package as a subcompact crossover. However, when it comes down to choosing the right X2, we would recommend to go for either the xDrive28 or the M35i. Both gets a similarly luxurious cabin and the xDrive28i with its mid-price ends up offering the most value for money.

Is buying a used BMW X2 a good idea?

The 2021 BMW X2 is expected to be in the markets near the fall of 2020, so a used 2019 or 2020 model would be a great deal for a decent pricing and healthy conditions. Especially, there’s not much difference between the recent model and the past. The X2 is a recent badge which was launched in 2016. So, as far as equipment list is concerned, most of them will still be in use. So, used BMW X2 can prove to be a beneficial choice.

9.0/10

BMW loves to decorate the cabin with premium material and soft surfaces. Despite being a subcompact crossover, the 2021 BMW X2 has ample space for five-people. Though it doesn't feel as airy as a full-size SUV or coupes. The 2021 X2 gets the same laud with its upscale upholstery. Inspired by the X1, front row gets fitted with two-way power-adjustable seat bolsters and eight-way power-adjustable front seats with memory, while the rear seats compromise a little on the legroom and headroom fronts, owing to X2's sloping roofline. Outward visibility feels a bit constrained. Ambient lighting does set the mood aptly and an Automatic climate control with micro-filter and air recirculation makes the cabin a refreshing space.

2021 BMW X2 vs. 2021 Audi Q3

The peppy engine block in both German rivals gives a sporty driving feel. The Audi Q3 light-to-touch steering feels a bit more agile than the 2021 BMW X2 crossover. Other the other hand, the hard push to the pedal shows a slight turbo lag in the Four Rings SUV, which makes it slower to the latter one. Both German crossover feature refined and premium cabin with soft and high-quality material and latest tech support. While the Audi Q3 is a lesser efficient choice side to BMW.

2020 Audi Q3

2021 BMW X2 vs. 2021 Volvo XC40

The Volvo XC40 is a very worthy opponent, which offers a less dynamic driving style compared to the 2021 BMW X2. The intuitive iDrive system makes the BMW more advanced as compared to the Volvo yet a bigger screen is fitted in the latter. Both vehicles turn out to be luxurious when chooses in their top trim attire. The Volvo isn't as quick and agile as the BMW X2 even with the bigger engine choice for the Volvo crossover.

2020 Volvo XC40

2021 BMW X2 vs. 2021 Mercedes Benz GLA-250

The Mercedes Benz GLA-250 is the German automaker's smallest SUV and feels underpowered when compared to the 2021 BMW X2, yet is the quickest choice in the list. While hard cornering body rolls scares the driver to go further on the taco while the BMW X2 is an absolute charm and sporty in driving. The Merc crossover doesn't inherit the brands classy and premium cabin comfort and use of cheaper material are easily noticeable.

The 2021 BMW X2 is an attractive compact crossover with a desirable sloping roofline. The power outputs come out high and the indulging driving dynamics make it a sporty vehicle.
