Overall Rating
The newest edition of the M8 family, the BMW M8 Gran Coupe lineup rides on a chassis and body which is longer, wider, taller over the M8 coupe. This means that the uncompromised near-supercar levels of performance and luxury can be more easily shared with family and friends. This is the first edition M8 Gran Coupe which will be available with 50 units for the U.S. market and will go into production from November 2019.
The strength of BMW to blend the sporty dynamics with a first-class cabin taking on the likes of Audi R8, Aston Martin DB11, and Nissan GT-R, which apart from their high-dollar, high-powered performance falls on the cushy side of things.

Final Verdict
The idea of blending a luxury sports-oriented performance with a pinch of practicality has resulted in the 2020 BMW M8 Gran Coupes’. The M8 Gran Coupe and its competition version use the same powertrain which is uprated slightly for the competition model. The M8 Gran Coupe starts cheaply in comparison to the M8 Coupe and at the same time offers better utility. In terms of power and performance, the Gran Coupe matches the M8 performance but the extra bulk keeps it lower. Though it's not a con.

Nothing has changed upfront from freshly launched M8 coupe and cabriolet. The Competition variant not only adds a modest power but also a unique-design wheels, an amplified exhaust, full Merino leather interior, and darker exterior trim. Also, the foundation of the Competition model uses firmer mounts, revised suspension and tweaked software settings.
What do we recommend?
More practical than the M8 Coupe, the 2020 M8 Gran Coupe sedan shares the same power and performance but with space for four adults. The BMW M8 Gran Coupe will be an excellent vehicle to drive.
Riding over clouds with lightning and thunder announcing your arrival is surely the BMW M8 Gran Coupe experience for you. Luxury meets a sports car-like performance, BMW has added practicality to its M8 coupe with two-doors and elongated length. The limited M8 Gran Coupe uses high- revving 4.4 Liter S63 M TwinPower Turbo V8, tuned to produce 600 hp in basic and uprated 617 hp in M8 Competition version. The twin-turbo V8 produces 553 pound-feet of torque, with the M8 competition Gran Coupe getting increased torque band by 260 rpm. The M sports exhaust in M8 Gran Coupes’ enhances the exhaust notes astoundingly further beyond the sound of the M8.
Moving from the M8 coupe to Gran Coupe, there is a penalty of modest 185-pounds. The uncompromised near-supercar levels of performance and luxury can be easily shared with friends and family. An eight-speed M Steptronic transmission routes the BMW M8 Gran Coupes’ power and torque to the M all-wheel-drive system either through the center console-mounted gear selector lever or with M shift paddles on the steering wheel.

The transmission controller is intelligent to adapt the shift parameters to the current driving situation by means of networking with the navigation data. In comparison to the rivaling coupes, the M8 Gran Coupe finds no one near. The competitors use different sets of engine configurations to deliver a sports car performance with Nissan using V-6 in GT-R and Audi using V-10 in R8, delivering equally competitive power and performance.
The automaker claims an astonishing 0-60 mph time for M8 Gran Coupe and Competition taking just 3.1 seconds and 3.0 seconds respectively. The M xDrive intelligent rear-biased all-wheel-drive system makes the most use of BMW M8 Gran Coupes’ power to increase the performance to near-supercar levels.

The BMW M8 Gran Coupe models offer an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph, which can be further increased to 190 mph with the optional M Driver’s Package. The eight-speed shiftable transmission comes with the Driverlogic button to allow the driver to select the comfort and speed of gear shifts from comfort-oriented to track focussed shifting.
The M8 Gran Coupes’ models take advantage of increased 7.9-inch wheelbase over M8 coupe, adding extra stability, comfort, and rear interior space without affecting the car’s track-capable agility. The standard all-wheel drive is reverse biased which transmits power to the front-wheels if extra traction is needed.
Further, you can tailor the driving experience with available modes with one-touch control. Switching to Comfort mode for softer and touring ride and move to Sport or Sport+ modes to control high-revving engine, stiffened springs, quicker shifts, and snappier steering.
The BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe features stiffer suspension settings to further enhance the steering and lateral response, stiffened engine mounts for increased rigidity and cornering ability. The steering feel can be adjusted between the driving modes for varying steering feedback and effort.
The M compound vented discs brakes with front, six-piston calipers, and rear, single-piston calipers for excellent braking stability under the heaviest of loads. The lighter braking system is electronically controlled as was the case in the M8 coupe and cabriolet.

The BMW M8 Gran Coupe comes standard with 20-inch wheels equipped with non-run flats, high-performance tires to cope with the high levels of torque produced by the engine. The M8 competition gets exclusive M light-alloy wheels with a gloss-milled 3D structure.
The BMW M8 Gran Coupe is a bright heart in the dusk. This Bimmer is the nearest sports car with the utmost modern luxury on offer. With the automaker claiming 15/21/17 mpg for city, highway and combined respectively, it's an average performance in comparison to other performance cars.

The likes of Nissan GT-R whose V-6 offers 565 hp is EPA rated at 18 combined mpg. While the DB11 with its V8 offers 20 mpg combined, which is good but the trade-off with lesser power. Audi R8’s V-10 engine is thirsty for them all and consumes 16 mpg combined.
There will be a moment of ecstasy as you make your way inside the lap of luxury that BMW M8 Gran Coupe is designed to accomplish. The sumptuous interiors deliver everything you imagined a Bimmer of this class should. The use of extended Merino Leather upholstery with instrument panel decorated by Nappa Leather and Alcantara headliners is a pure joie de vivre.
Don’t get caught in the BMW nomenclature, this M8 Gran Coupe is a luxury sports car with four-doors and a seating capacity of five. This stretched bimmer overly benefits the interior space, especially the rear head and legroom but still, the rear headroom stays limited. However, this bimmer against the claims can accommodate four with equal comfort as the substantial center console in the rear wants the fifth passenger to sit with legs on either side of it.
From the M leather steering wheel to the newly designed lever sitting next to the red start/stop button on center console occupy the very top of BMW’s model lineup. The standard ambient lighting and indirect illumination of contour lines running along with the center console and door shoulders are striking and create an exclusive mood. The M specifics set the right tone for this track-performer to be shared with family and friends.

The 2020 BMW M8 Gran Coupes’ features BMW Live Cockpit Professional that combines the 7th generation of the iDrive with a high-resolution 12.3” instrument cluster display behind the steering wheel and a 10.25” center display diagonally across. The intuitive touchscreen display offers stunning visualizations and a tablet-like interface. The iDrive touch controller allows users to interact in the way of their choosing with the option of new haptic controls, cloud-based voice control, and gesture control other than the touchscreen itself.
The Live Cockpit Professional offers a standard navigation system, two USB ports plus Bluetooth interface. Further, the BMW Connected is a companion app that connects the driver and their smartphones with their vehicle for minimal stress in reaching their destination.
All kinds of hardware devices including the iPhone and Apple Watch, smartphones and smartwatches running on Android OS, Alexa-compatible smart devices and Google Home can interact with your BMW.
This 8 series bimmer is spacious enough to carry a couple of large suitcases, a limited utility for a pedigree racing car at an attractive price suffice the situation. Further, in comparison to the M8 coupe and convertibles offering just 14.8 cubic feet and 12.4 cubic feet trunk, the Gran Coupe brings practicality with better storage feasibility.

The standard hands-free, power trunk-lid makes for easier loading. Also, the foldable rear-seats allow for occasional expanded storage needs.
In or out of the spotlight, it is perfect from every angle. The new BMW M8 Gran Coupe offers a four-door body which is more of a practical performance machine with a lot relatable to its two-door counterpart. The wide flanks and sharp creased modern lines, M8 gran Coupes’ rides on a chassis and body which is 9.1-inches longer, 1.4-inches wider, 2.3-inches taller than M8 coupe. The stunning and powerful sweeping M8 Gran Coupe uses the M Carbon roof to lower the weight and center of gravity for improved agility.
The subtle flying buttress design is complemented by the use of lightweight material for weight reduction and better performance. The aluminum construction is used for the doors, hood, roof, front bulkhead, engine subframe, and rear bumper support. The trunk-lid is made from dent-resistant plastic while the cabin dashboard is made from magnesium and parts of the center driveline tunnel are made from carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic.

The production of the first edition of M8 Gran Coupes’ has begun since November 2019 and like other performance, cars to forgo the crash testing, the bimmer is yet to be rated by the federal agencies for its crashworthiness. The standard safety and driver-assistance features in the M8 Gran Coupe are more than overwhelming. The advanced technology kicks in without straining the driver in monotonous situations to enhance comfort and safety both in urban traffic and on longer trips.
The optional Driving Assistance Package contains Active Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Surround View Camera, Drive Recorder, Parking Assistant, Active Park Distance Control, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Speed Limit Information. On top of that, the Driving Assistance Professional Package includes Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Lane Keeping Assistant with Active Side Collision Avoidance, evasion aid, and Extended Traffic Jam Assistant.
Notably, the British DB11 is a pricier package with limited practicality in comparison to M* Gran Coupes’. Both appeal to the luxury performance market with equally sporty-interiors, yet clean. The inclusion of all and every modern-day technology and the use of high-quality materials are unquestionable in both. However, bimmer offers a bigger infotainment display. For off-the-line sprints and torque, bimmer will be the first choice. Overall, the bimmer seems rather affordable with everything one could desire.
The 2020 Audi R8 is a meticulous performer, a thrilling supercar without pretense while the bimmer is bulkier with typical Bavarian instincts. The BMW outclasses its Audi counterpart with explosive power and a better appetite. Further, the bimmer is meant to be a family sports car with a performance no other sleek sedan could match. The choice between the two is a matter of preferences as for 2020 R8 loses its rear-wheel-drive.
The Nissan GTR still uses 3.8L twin-turbo V-6 producing ever-evolving power and torque. The GT-R is more efficient, handles and accelerates better because it weighs less than the BMW M8 Gran Coupe. However, the GT-R features a modest interior that may vanish in oblivion as the Germans offer enticing technology and plush experience. The GT-R comes cheaply to pockets and acknowledges the easy usability than the pricier and bulkier M8 Gran Coupe.
The “four-door coupe” phenomenon has been picking up for quite some time now, but these ultimate performance sedans haven't hit the right note for the audience. 2020 BMW M8 Gran Coupe is excitingly different. The picture-perfect styling and scintillating performance of 8 series coupe and convertibles appeal to the right side of your brain, but the practicality of Gran Coupe satisfies the left side of it.
