The 2021 BMW M4 Coupe is more menacing than the current models - get's more power, a new exterior, and an updated interior. It is as practical as any other 4-series model but has the power to thrill you beyond imagination. The 2021 M4 marks the beginning of the 2nd generation model while sporting the spectacular new S58 engine available in two states of tune and with a choice of manual or automatic transmissions. The M4 coupe sits between the BMW M2 and the BMW M8 in the M model range.

More enticing is a new M Drive Professional suite of onboard performance analyzers, including M Drift Analyzer and M Laptimer. Moreover, soon BMW will even offer M xDrive performance all-wheel drive

2021 BMW M4 Coupe Buying Guide
No fake intakes here! BMW's new M4 on sale now.

The 2021 BMW M4 is definitely tailored with a high head-turning quotient. However, the base car can be made flashier with a full list of BMW M Performance Parts. Many of that equipment is purely aesthetic-driven, but some offer functional performance or driving improvements. All in all, the new 2021 BMW M4 Coupe is up for online orders, with the price starting from $71,800 (MSRP) for the base model.

The 2021 BMW M4 Coupe continues the legacy of the ‘M’ division. The M4 gets a new 3.0L Inline 6 Cylinder twin-turbocharged engine, BMW TwinPower Turbo S58 motors producing up to 503 hp. That motor packs in enough grunt to make all its competitors stay behind on the track. The M4 coupe is a mean driving machine that feels nimble and agile on its feet and also offers the choice of a traditional 6-speed manual transmission, something that is rare in the cars’ segment. The new M4 is currently offered with a rear-wheel-drive configuration although an All-Wheel-Drive, M xDrive is coming in March.

New M Drive Professional option brings big fun—and analytics—to the M4.

For those who aren't aware, BMW had renamed what would previously have been known as an M3 coupe, to bring the latest sporting two-door in line with the “odd numbers for saloons, even for coupes” logic of the rest of the range. The 2021 BMW M4 Coupe rivals with the models such as Mercedes Benz AMG E53 and Lexus RCF Coupe. Read our in-depth review for the 2021 BMW M4 Coupe, to get a clear picture of how the M4 is strategically placed in the US market.

MSRP pricing is $71,800 for the M4 Coupe and $74,700 for the M4 Competition Coupe. Prices exclude $995 Destination. The first-gen model is available in coupe, convertible, and gran coupe body-style, but at the time of writing BMW has only revelaed the M4 Coupe for 2021 MY.

Two M4 models including the base and Competition will be offered at the global market launch next March (2021). The RWD, manual-transmission M4 Coupe, and the RWD, automatic transmission M4 Competition Coupe. For all-weather capability, BMW will add M xDrive for the Competition models by Summer 2021.

2021 BMW M4 Maintenance, Reliability and Warranty

BMW is one such brand that is known for its performance and luxury cars which are flushed with advanced electronics that somewhat asks the brand's reliability some serious questions. More rivals surpass the German cars for dependability and cheap maintenance. Still, BMW has kept the problems distant from most of its offerings and the new 2021 M4 Coupe should follow the same trend.

Reliability and Ownership Costs

BMW bagged 6 awards in the category of quality, performance, and power dependability in 2019-20. There are no J D power ratings yet made for new M4 and are neither present for any previous models, but hanging in there tight, they might come out soon. However, the maintenance cost of BMW is not that low but is decent.

M4 models benefit from the body and chassis enhancements over their non-M relatives.

Earlier versions of BMW M4 Coupe have always scored high in terms of after-sales experience and reliability and we expect the 2021 version to be the same. Prices of the 2021 BMW M4 Coupe in different states vary because each of the states has different sales tax structures. Also, there are destination charges and dealership discounts that alter the price. However, people from the states of Delaware, New Hampshire, Oregon, Montana, and Atlanta enjoy the best prices as the sales taxes are exempted from them.

Considering the fact that the M4 is a hunkered down, performance-oriented coupe, the cost comes out to be decent.

M xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive for Competition models

The BMW M4 had been issued only one safety recall for 2020 models where the knee airbags were not deployed. But this issue has been addressed by the automaker. The brand also provides complimentary scheduled maintenance and repairs are infrequent and not so costly or serious.

Warranty

BMW provides bumper to bumper limited and powertrain warranty that is similar to the other contenders like the Audi and the Mercedes AMG. The 2021 BMW M4 Coupe's warranty package covers a Limited Warranty of 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first.

2021 BMW M4 Buying Advice

The 2021 BMW M4 Coupe is a perfect package that does the street and track duties honestly. The M coupe combines ample of features, competitive price, and most importantly the insane-levels of performance. Though it new looks bag mixed reviews, the 2021 M4 makes for one the most powerful 4 series models ever. The car is priced slightly more than the outgoing model but is in line with other German rivals.

Aggressive and Focussed

The base M4 trim, which is not actually a base model, as BMW has everything covered in the coupe. Though our favorite is the BMW M4 Competition, as it gives more power to tap. You can opt for available packages and standalone options as per requirements but the Carbon Fibre seats are a must along with the M Carbon package.

Is buying a used BMW M4 coupe a good idea?

A used 2018 BMW M4, with low miles and a good maintenance record, can be obtained for a price of about $50,000. You can also check out the Car Indigo inventory for a used BMW M4. There are some great deals running at the moment over a used BMW M4.

The BMW M4 Coupe retains its value very well. For the first year of the M4 Coupe, it tends to lose between 6%to 10% of its value. Moreover, the maintenance cost of the M4 after being a premium car is decent, neither low nor high. Opting for the earlier model will be a good choice, as it offers a good resale value with nearly 11 years of useful life left.

2021 BMW M4 Engine and Performance

9.1/10

In the 2021 M4, a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 engine makes 473 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, while in the M4 Competition, it makes 503 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. That's 48 hp more over the previous models and 59 hp and 73 lb-ft of torque in the new Competition models over previous Competition package-equipped cars.

The M4 comes with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, but you can opt for the available eight-speed automatic instead. This is a torque-converter system that also gets a similar launch control system as the BMW M8. However, you can't get Competition models with a manual as they come with this automatic gearbox as standard.

The 2021 M4 gets more power from BMW's S58 motor.

Rear-wheel-drive is standard but for the first time, BMW will offer 2021 M4 Competition with an all-wheel-drive system. That follows a full catalog of BMW's M Performance parts including adaptive dampers, electrically-controlled lightweight titanium exhaust systems. You can control the loudness of the exhaust using the M Sound button.

Among the rivals, the 2021 M4 is the flag bearer with the most horses under the hood. The upgraded S58 engine in M4 and competition models pack a punch. The Lexus RC F is slightly behind in terms of numbers while the Mercedes-AMG E53 which has a 9-speed automatic transmission has the least power output.

2021 BMW M4 Acceleration and Braking Performance

The new S58 powerplant allows the M4 Coupe to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds on the way to a top speed of 155 mph or 180 mph when the M Driver’s Package is selected. the more powerful Competition model reduces 0 to 60 mph acceleration time to 3.8 seconds and sees similar top speeds. When driving the car it produces a very aggressive sound from its chrome exhausts.

As fast as you like, the new BMW M4.

The 2021 M4 coupe gets beefier brakes than the standard 3 and 4 Series and they can be upgraded with a set of carbon-ceramic brakes. The 3,830 lbs M4 coupe takes about 104 ft to come to a complete halt from 60 mph.

The BMW M4 comes with a carbon-fiber roof to make their chassis stiffer and lower the cars’ center of gravity to reduce body lean in fast corners. Despite this, the M4 both weigh around 3830 pounds- that’s more than the outgoing models. BMW and Mercedes stand together when it comes to the acceleration times but Mercedes takes the piece of cake when it comes to the braking performance.

2021 BMW M4 Interior

7.7/10

The new interiors of the 2021 BMW M4 Coupe share the layout with the latest BMW 3 Series and 4 series but with racing-inspired equipment and materials. BMW has given the M4 the M treatment inside too. The M Sport steering wheel with M-coloured stitching and programmable M driving mode buttons alongside a red starter button looks sporty. The M-badged gear lever and carbon-fiber trim come standard as well.

The interior has the premium build quality and M4's cabin has more room than before. The second-gen M4 rides over a longer wheelbase and is wider too, thus offers more legroom and shoulder room than the 2020 model.

The optional Carbon Fibre seats will have a better grip on your backside and your pocket as well

To further elevate the sporting feel inside, you can go for the M Sport seats come with built-in M logos along with two-tone trim, though at an extra cost. Even better are the optional carbon-fiber bucket seats. Standard seats are comfortable and are wrapped in premium Merino leather.

2021 BMW M4 Exterior

9.1/10

A number of changes have been made to the exterior design of the 2021 BMW M4 Coupe, which enjoys greater differentiation from its 4 Series siblings than ever before. The new flared fenders cover the wider tires and track while the grille is the most talked-about aspect. M4's front end is comprehensively redesigned, and the black used for the grille inserts is a huge visual improvement while M4 gets a heavily sculpted hood.

The refreshed 2021 M4 is longer and wider than the 2020 model.

In the rear, you will find the typical diffuser, 4.0-inch exhaust tips, and a lip spoiler. Still, most of the added flair we mentioned before comes from a carbon fiber accents and equipment. An optional M Carbon exterior package adds carbon-fiber on the front air intakes, rear diffuser, exterior mirror caps, and rear spoiler. Full LED headlights with fiber-optic daytime running lights are standard, with adaptive Laserlight lamps available as an option.

In terms of performance, the Mercedes is ahead of the BMW, but BMW is better than the former in terms of space and looks.

The Lexus RC F Coupe is cheaper than the BMW M4 Coupe, having an engine more powerful than the M4. The Lexus stays behind when it comes to torque figures but comes ahead when we talk about power. No issues with the driving and I love to drive it. I don't understand why bmw is providing only one driving lesson on track. It should definately have been a couple at least

Ride in luxury.

BMW M4 is well known for performance. It's a car made to enjoy driving. Never feels shy in breaking the speed limit the moment you press the accelerator pedal. Bmw did a fabulous job on this one.

One marvelous mean machine.

Although it is a super sports car, it is also the perfect car for everyday commuting. Better fuel saving and for just coasting along the interstate, it only reaches 20mpg.

All about sportiness

Glad I chose m4 and not just any other car. The driving experience so far has been wonderful in every sense. Low ride and initial acceleration is what I love about it. Our M4 came with standard suspension for better comfort in city.
