The all-new 2019 BMW 8 series Cabriolet is something special in the BMW lineup. Experts have already claimed that once you test drive the BMW 8 series you will forget about the BMW 6 series that it replaces. Well, the BMW 8 series replaces the 6 series two door convertibles with an all new M850i and is more expensive by $20,000 now, while the 6 series is still available in 2019 in a gran coupe and gran turismo hatchback 4 door version

The 2019 BMW 8 series, all new for the year, is priced at $121,400 and inspite of occupying a bigger alphanumeric series places itself below the BMW 7 series. The new BMW 8 series has overcome the conservative design of the 6 series it replaces and has more sharp sculpting in the body and a redesigned front fascia for better air intake. Well definitely it's not longer than its predecessor still there are things that make it more adorable in the BMW Convertible lineup.

The Mercedes-AMG C63 tops the chart with 603 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque, and is followed by the Audi R8 with 562hp.The BMW 8 Series might not have the most powerful engine to offer, but we can say that it is rightly powered in its segment and with its powerful acceleration figures it's fun to drive.

Acceleration

The M850i is amazingly fast on the tracks, It takes the BMW M850i Convertible from standstill to 60Mph in as little as 3.8 seconds. This quick acceleration is a result of the higher torque at low rpm. The acceleration is aided by the all-wheel-drive system that sends a majority of the engine’s power to the rear wheels to achieve this quick acceleration figure.

The BMW 8 series is not the swiftest of all it is in fact the slowest in the comparison but it remains justified for the price it asks. The Acura NSX in spite of its lower power figures has better acceleration time while the Audi R8 leads the race with 0 to 60Mph in just 2.9 sec.

Braking

The brakes on the BMW M850i return ample amounts of feedback and are firm in braking at higher speeds that allows much confidence under emergency braking circumstances. The 2019 M850i manages to stop at 107 feet at a speed of 60 mph. It is quite impressive for a car that is as large and weighs as much as the BMW M850i.

Ride and Handling

The smooth shifts from the 8-speed automatic offers the right amount of agility and flexibility to the M850i and makes driving the M850i in and around the city quite a rewarding experience. The M850i comes equipped with a four-wheel-steering system.

The all-wheel steering setup in the BMW 8 series reduces the overall effort on steering and makes low-speed manoeuvrability incredibly light. The feedback from the electric power steering wheel feels quite accurate and responsive even at sharper and slower turnings. The all-wheel-drive offers plenty of road traction due to the continuous engagement of the limited-slip differential at the rear axles, and results in better handling even in wet road conditions.

The BMW M850i offers an adaptive suspension system that extends a comfortable ride with any road condition. The driving dynamics of the vehicle is aided by a series of drive assistance features and offers a pleasant driving condition.

2019 BMW 8 Series Convertible Fuel Economy

8.0/10

The MPG figures of the BMW 8 series does not sound to be compromising. It returns 17 miles per gallon in the city and returns a combined EPA rated economy of 20 mpg . It is neither very impressive nor a big let down considering other cars in this segment. Although the highway range of 26 Miles per gallon is impressive compared to others.

2019 BMW 8 Series Convertible Interior

9.0/10

The 8 series combines exotic comfort with performance. The Spacious in the front row is ample for long-distance touring, sadly the second row does not offer adequate room for seating adults.

The biggest asset for the vehicle however remains the logically laid out seats. The front seats are the primary attraction of this vehicle and are heavily bolstered to sustain the effects of frequent cornerings while the rear seats are less comfortable for many reasons.

The suspension setup can be adjusted depending on the kind of feedback required. In Comfort mode, the adaptive dampers soften up to absorb the nastiest of bumps on the road. While the Sport mode toughens things up for a more controlled ride. The difference is clearly noticeable.

Though, the ride quality is pretty rewarding in the later still. The level of insulation in the 8 series is just bang on. You will not hear anything you don’t want to. There’s hardly any wind or road noise making its way inside. The only sound you can probably detect is the burly exhaust of this BMW’s V8.

2019 BMW 8 Series Convertible Exterior

9.0/10

The BMW 8 series replaces the longer 6 series convertible but is compact that its predecessor. The new BMW 8 series is a new entrant which is smartly designed to sustain all the cues of a sports car. The vehicle gets aggressive lines on the sides and gets sharp sculpting on the sides. The design is more aerodynamic and the long hood with sculpted lines steals the attention.

The 2019 BMW 8 series is not the longest convertible and is compact than the BMW 7 series which surprises many for the numeric nomenclature. It looks like an American muscle car-like with its low, wide and long design. The rear is inspired by the BMW i8 with the tail lights similarly set up on that.

The doors are neatly sculpted and open wide to give access to the second row as well. The very interesting X-shaped rear end which houses the exhaust pipes and brake ducts merges seemingly with the front grille design. The convertible looks gorgeously designed and with its top-down is just spectacular and attractive.

2019 BMW 8 Series Convertible Competition

2019 BMW 8 Series Convertible vs. Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet

The BMW M850i simply dominates the 911 Carrera in all considerable aspects. It can accommodate more people and has a bigger trunk. If it’s power you’re looking for, this BMW even makes a whopping 153 more horsepower than the engine on the 911. The BMW 8 series convertible is without a doubt a much wiser choice than the Porsche.

2019 BMW 8 Series Convertible vs. Bentley Continental GT

Some might say that the Bentley continental GT is the best drop-top tourer on the market, but we beg to differ. The BMW 8 series convertible is brutally powerful, top-shelf luxurious and down right more practical. Yes, the Bentley is all that too. But this BMW comes at a price tag that’s almost half of what the Continental GT costs. How’s that for an overall well packaged performance tourer?

2019 BMW 8 Series Convertible Final Verdict

9.1/10

The 2019 BMW 8 series convertible is a premium performance tourer which provides great value for its cost. There are several reasons why the M850i satisfies as a practical performance vehicle. Be it it’s powerful engine or it’s class-leading usability, the 8 series convertible feels incredibly special to drive. This BMW has been superbly engineered and instils a great sense of wellbeing. It hardly has a direct rival that packs even slightly similar levels of power and luxury.
