2021 Bentley Bentayga V8

Bentley was the first automaker that opened up a new level of uber-luxury SUVs with correspondingly compelling hunger for performance. The final addition to the range was Bentayga Speed, which Bentley claims to be the world's fastest SUV. With the updated model, Bentley continues to innovate and explore the possibilities which arise where ultimate luxury meets thrilling performance. The badge has been in production since 2015 and has Bentley’s trademark design all over. Today, the SUV faces stiff competition from Rolls Royce Cullinan, Lamborghini Urus, and Aston Martin DBX. Here is our take on the 2021 Bentley Bentayga that is soon going on sale in the US market.

The all-new 2021 Bentley Bentayga V8 is available in two trims the Bentayga V8 priced at an MSRP of $177,000, and the Bentayga V8 First Edition priced at an MSRP of $219,430. Both trims come with the same 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 and come with AWD only. The First Edition gets some unique features that Bentley refers to as the most desired options available and includes them as standard equipement.

The 2021 Bentley Bentayga comes with many exterior and interior options like paint color, upholstery color, wheel options, sunroof, veneers, along with option packages which Bentley referees to as Specifications which include Mulliner Driving Specification, Touring Specification (included in the first edition), Blackline Specification, and Off-road specification, the customization options are abundant.

Bentley is famous for its unique design and plush interiors and the 2021 Bentley Bentayga, is no different either. It is among the most expensive SUVs, which price ranges between $168,300-$300,000. The Bentayga’s glitz and glam exterior make the vehicle stand at par from its competition. 

Reliability and Ownership Costs

Bentayga was honored with the ‘Star Award’ at the 2017 Autocar Awards. The 2020 Bentayga shares the Volkswagen Group’s MLB Evo platform with the Audi Q7’s second generation. Built on this renowned and reliable platform, the Bentayga shares the engine mounting and drivetrain with various other cars like the Audi A4, A5, A6, and A7 that provides the advantage of being flexible to use in the vehicle of any body-size.

The 2021 Bentley Bentayga has not been rated yet by the J.D power, but consider the fact that it shares the same platform with Audi Q7, So, the J. D. Power Rating for Audi Q7 holds valid for 2020 Bentayga. As per J.D. Power report, the 2021 Bentayga SUV scores an above-average predicted reliability rating of 79 out of 100. On average, the 2020 Bentayga SUV can cost $170,000 if you throw in dealer discounts and some counties which are exempted from taxes enjoy even better pricing.

Bentley has been a success in delivering quality and efficiency in all its vehicles but in February 2020, there is recall reported and the issue was the side curtain airbags do not fill properly in case of a crash. This further increases the risk of injury in a crash. Bentley has been working on this issue and we are expecting it to be in good shape for the upcoming 2021 Bentayga model.

Warranty

Like all other Bentley models, the Bentayga SUV comes with a standard three-year warranty. However, the Rolls Royce Cullinan gives more value in terms of a four-year warranty package and four whole years of complimentary maintenance.

The Bentley offers the Bentayga with a basic warranty, but it cannot compete with the 2020 Range Rover Sport SVR which has a warranty of 6 years from the day of delivery.

Miles per Dollar

In this we will be factoring the annual maintenance cost and how many miles the car runs on average in a year. However, we do not have the data for the annual maintenance figures for the Bentley Bentayga, but we are expecting it to have a very high mile to dollars ration. 

At an MSRP of $177,000, the Bentley Bentayga V8 is the trim to get, you get all the luxury and comfort features you need along with adequate power. We would recommend getting the Blackline Specification all exterior accents and grille in black with 22-inch black wheels, the Touring Specification which adds driver-assist features, the 5 seating comfort specification. We would recommend a strong color as well - black, blue, or even the Viridian (green) to the exterior.

The 2021 Bentley Bentayga V8 is powered by a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 engine which makes 542 hp and 568 lb.-ft of torque. Power is managed by an 8-speed automatic transmission and AWD drivetrain. Other Bentley Bentayga models include the Bentayga Speed which has a W12 making 626 hp and Bentayga Hybrid coming with a 3.0L V6 hybrid making 443 hp.

The Bentley Bentayga V8 does the 0-60 in 4.4 seconds which is 0.4 seconds faster than the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, but slower than the Lamborghini Urus and the Aston Martin DBX. The 2021 Bentley Bentayga does the standing quarter-mile in 12.7 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 180 mph. Along with that, it has a towing capacity of 7,716 pounds, more than the competition.

The Lamborghini Urus makes 641 hp and is the most powerful of the above SUVs. With 19 hp more is the Rolls-Cullinan and matching the power of the Bentley Bentayga is the Aston Martin DBX. The suspension is adjustable air suspension keeps the ride comfortable whether cruising on the highway or flooring the pedal you will feel like you are hovering over the road.

The 2021 Bentley Bentayga V8 comes with an EPA estimated fuel economy figures of 15 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway, and a combined 18 mpg. The Aston Martin DBX gives a combined 15 mpg, 3 mpg less than the Bentley Bentayga. The Lamborghini Urus and Rolls-Royce Cullinan both give a combined 14 mpg.

The 2021 Bentley Bentayga comes with a fuel capacity of 22.5 gallons, the same as the Aston Martin DBX and 2.7 gallons more than the Lamborghini Urus. The large fuel tank allows it to have a the longest range of 405 miles in combined which is more than the Lamborghini Urus's highway range and the same highway range of the Aston Martin DBX.

 The 2021 Bentley Bentayga V8's interior comes with a seating capacity of 5 occupants, which can be optioned to 4 occupants with the four-seat comfort specification or 7 with the 7 seat specification. The front row seats are 22-way power-adjustable heated bucket seats with the option of Front seat comfort specification which adds ventilation, massage, and cushion adjusters, this is standard on the First Edition (MSRP - $219,430)

There is dual-zone automatic front and rear air-conditioning with separate rear controls. The interior leather upholstery includes some of the finest sustainably sourced hides and available in multiple colors including two-tone, stitch and emblem options (First Edition), along with wood veneers. The 2021 Bentley Bentayga V8 comes with a cargo capacity of 17.1 cu.ft. which is lesser than the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Lamborghini Urus, Aston Martin DBX.

The 2021 Bentley Bentayga comes with a new infotainment system with a 10.9-inch touchscreen that includes navigation, AM/FM radio, CD and DVD player, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation and in-car Wi-Fi come as standard, wireless smartphone charger, USB type-C charging points, and two 10.2-inch screens behind the front row headrests as rear-seat entertainment screens and even access the internet from there.

The new Bentley Bentayga comes with the My Bentley Connected services to make using in-car features much simpler, My Bentley app provides remote access including a remote car finder. A 10-speaker sound system is standard, there is a 20-speaker Niam for Bentley Soundsystem is available for $8,800, which comes standard on the Bentley Bentayga V8 First Edition.

As is usually the case with Bentleys, the Bentayga is aging much better and this update cleans up the design tremendously - CarBuzz

The 2021 Bentley Bentayga V8 comes with new styling including a wider grille, new LED jewel headlights, a new front, and rear number and taillight design, a new set of wheel designs, and the addition of two new colors - Viridian (dark green metallic) and Patina (off-white metallic). The new styling brings the Bentley Bentayga in line with the styling of the Bentley Flying Spur and Bentley Continental GT.

The exterior comes with many options like Blackline specification which adds accents in black along with black 22-inch wheels, Mulliner specification adds 22-inch Mulliner wheels, All-terrain specification adds underbody protection among others features. Other stand-alone options include smokers specification, carbon-ceramic brakes, rear-privacy glass, retractable towbar, many paint and wheel option including Mulliner's two-tone paint.

In terms of dimensions, there is less of an inch difference compared to the 2020 model, but, the wheelbase is the same. In comparison, the Roll-Royce Cullinan is 9-inches longer and 6.3 inches wider and 4-inches taller than the Bentley Bentayga. The Lamborghini Urus has similar dimensions, but the Aston Martin DBX is shorter in length and height, but wider and longer in the wheelbase.

The 2021 Bentley Bentayga V8 has not yet been crash-tested by the NHTSA, nor the IIHS. That said the Bentley Bentayga shares its platform with the Audi Q7, which already has a good IIHS score when it comes to safety ratings. 

The Bentley Bentayga comes with many safety and driver-assist features like a tire pressure warning system, park assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. back up camera and more. There is also the Touring Specification which adds adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, night vision, and traffic assist, which you would expect to come standard in an SUV priced at an MSRP of $177,000.

2021 Bentley Bentayga vs 2021 Lamborghini Urus

Bentley Bentayga offers more luxury inside the cabin; it is superbly designed and has the best-built quality with good performance. Bentayga is heavier than Urus, and still, it gives you better fuel efficiency than Urus. Both SUVs have the same engine though the Lamborghini Urus offers the best performance in all the luxury SUV segment and also has a sportier feel to it. Unless you desire more performance, the Bentley is the better option.

 

2021 Bentley Bentayga vs 2021 Rolls Royce Cullinan

Both the Bentley Bentayga and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan offer the best-in-class interior and all sorts of luxury features and both are big and heavy. The Bentley Bentayga is relatively cheaper than Rolls Royce Cullinan and can do 0-60 mph in less time than Cullinan and provides better MPG figures. Cullinan is heavier than Bentayga, yet it gives better power delivery, but it lacks in fuel efficiency. The Cullinan costs twice as much as the Bentley Bentayga, hence we pick the Bentley.

2021 Bentley Bentayga vs 2021 Aston Martin DBX

The 2021 Aston Martin DBX is the closest when it comes to being the competition of the Bentley Bentayga, they both make the same power, cost nearly the same however, the DBX does offer lesser mpg, but offers more cargo space, and comes with better performance. But with the added practicality and perfroamcne, we do say the DBX is the better option out of the two.
