Audi TT fares off against the Porsche 718 Boxster, the Ford Mustang GT as well as the BMW M240i to some extent. The TT may look tame when you consider power figures, but the dynamic and responsive ride makes the TT an instant topper on your dream car list.

Acceleration

The lightweight Audi TT is quick to reach 60 mph from a standstill in 5.2 seconds. The signature performance is also reflected in the impressive wheel-turning power the TT convertible produces 258 lb-ft of torque, kicking in at only 1750 rpm. The advancements are felt with a top track speed of 130 mph.

The competitors in the segment are much faster than the Audi TT convertible. The M2 Competition is the fastest one to 60, full second faster than the TT. The Infiniti Q60 and the Ford Mustang GT takes about 4.5 seconds to reach 60, while the 718 Boxster takes 4.9 seconds.

Ride and Handling

The Audi TT is not the sharpest driving convertible on the market unlike the Boxster, but it still better than a few others. The steering feels responsive whenever you throw it in the corners and the amount of grip that it offers makes the drive truly entertaining.

The ride is on the comfort side and not too harsh but when you get the optional S line package, it does make a difference to the car. Body movement is well contained and the quattro all-wheel drive system offers stability, traction and precise driving.

Braking

The brakes are larger than ever before, with 11.8-inch discs on the front and 12.3 on the rear, they deliver powerful stopping force. Weighing about 3000 lbs, the Audi's work like a charm not only on tracks but also city streets. The brake pedal is extremely precise and direct, much like the steering.

In comparison, the BMW M2 Competition has the largest brakes with 15.7 inch discs up front and 15s in the back, the Audi TTs brakes feel tiny. The Infiniti and the Mustang GT also have large 14-inch brakes in the front.

2019 Audi TT Convertible Fuel Economy

7.9/10

The Audi TT may lag behind in terms of power, but it catches up to the competition when it comes to efficiency. The engine on the TT is surprisingly fuel efficient and only consumes about 23 miles to the gallon in the city and can manage up to 31 miles in a gallon on highways, which brings the combined fuel economy to about 26.

In contrast, the Ford Mustang GT lags behind with a massive gas guzzling V8 under the hood, with a combined fuel economy of 18 mpg. The Porsche 718 Boxster comes quite close to match the numbers of the Audi TT with a combined economy of 24 mpg.

2019 Audi TT Convertible Interior

9.0/10

The 4 seater convertible has comfortable and supportive seats but nowhere near the level that the convertibles like the 718 and BMw have reached. The cabin feels spacious until you try to carry some luggage, and then feel the need for a larger trunk. With premium materials on most of the console, you can ignore the plastic bits that litter the cabin.

The rear seats are even more unusable than the BMW and the Mustang, the leg room is lesser and so is the headroom.

Infotainment System

The giant high-definition screen inside the Audi is easy to use and intuitive while driving. Although Apple CarPlay is available as standard, but operating it through the rotary knob often gets tricky. It comes equipped with MMI navigation plus with MMI touch system which is one of a kind. The TT is equipped with Audi Connect which means it will give you an inbuilt 4G LTE connection. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay comes standard for this variant.

Cargo Capacity

The TT convertible is subpar for carrying cargo at the back, with a tiny trunk at the back and the accessible opening. The interior is also conducive to storage options but isn't exceptionally ergonomic.

2019 Audi TT Convertible Exterior

8.5/10

Long gone are the days when the Audi TT looked like a tortoise with wheels, the TT now has sharp stylized lines running along the length of the car and blend in smoothly into the LED Daytime running lights. The tiny convertible is only 164.7-inches long, much shorter than even the Porsche 718. However, it sits taller than the Porsche and loses out on the advantage of having a low centre of gravity.

2019 Audi TT Convertible Competition

Audi TT vs Porsche 718 Boxster

The Porsche is far superior to the Audi TT in terms of handling. The Porsche are well known for their laser precise steering and the Audi TT doesn't hold a candle. The infotainment on the TT is however a different story. With the Virtual cockpit, it is far superior to the Porsche's infotainment. Although the TT's rear seats are quite unusable for seating, they make it easy to carry some luggage, which isn't possible in the 2-seater 718.

Audi TT vs Ford Mustang GT

The Mustang is neither as advanced not as comfortable as the Audi TT, but it's 5.0L V8 engine covers for that in terms of pure power. If you want a convertible which can be quick through the turns, the Audi TT is the better option rather than the Mustang GT, which is better suited to drag races. As a daily driver, the TT is also the better convertible since it not only has better features, it also exhibits better economy.

2019 Audi TT Convertible Final Verdict

The fun and responsive ride makes the TT roadster one of the best droptops that Audi manufactures after the R9 spyder which comes with a V10 engine. The thrifty yet punchy engine churns out enough power to make it go quick around the track but also keep the economy good enough to drive it around the city everyday.

Weight distribution on turns

Pros - MMI touch system, navigation, Audi drive select

Cons - No manual transmission

Strictly taking about the driving, the best part of this Audi undoubtedly would be the handling. The weight distribution is so perfect and the way it carries itself on the turns/corners is just brilliant. Takes off with even more enthusiasm when hitting the gas after a corner. I wish it came with an option manual transmission too. Thankfully features like mmi touch and nav system are on board Seasts are deep and hug perfectly to keep anyone sitting secured. The dash could have been an inch lower to what it is or something. Chiseled design to actually make it go a little faster and I think Audi did succeed there MMI touch makes driving fairly safer and nav system also contributes to that. Plus, it lets me if anything is approaching from blind spots which is a plus Lately, I've been facing issues of a creaking sound coming from the dash/glove box maybe. Took it to the dealership whwere they fixed it but the sound started to appear again after a week. I'm not sure if this is a serious issue or just cheap plastic 907/m of finance for this beast I know a few people there and it never felt like a first visit when it actually was

Inline 4

Pros - Road presence/exhaust sound/Alcantara seats

Cons - Front grille look dull

Common inline 4 under the hood pops out a distinctive exhaust sound that can't be mistaken for something else. It resonates on top of a linear grunt and I love that. I'd say its the road presence of TT S competition A roadster with alcantara seats which are so easy to clean and match well with the dash. So visibility, looks, features, none of that is a problem here Again, a Roadster with the most curvy design Outward visibility is great and features like parking sensors and rear view monitor works even better Nothing came off loose even after driving it like a manaic on highways. LOL Lost my count after adding all the packages and stuff on it. :) It'd be nice if they offered some snacks and coffee maybe. The buying process was great and the staff was professional though
