2021 Audi S5 Maintenance, Reliability and Warranty

Audi vehicles are among the most reliable in the market, the midsize Luxury Sports Coupe is no exception. Like most of the sedans and coupes made by Audi, the S5 Coupe is built on the Volkswagen Group’s reliable MLB platform. Audi also offers its vehicles with one of the best warranty packages in the market. In addition, thanks to the lower cost of maintenance, the cost of ownership are also comparatively low.

Reliability and ownership costs

As we mentioned earlier Audi’s are among the most reliable cars in the market. However, J.D. Power is yet to review the 2021 model of the S5 Coupe and they have not done so for the previous models as well. So, we do not have actual figures to give you but trust us, you will not have any major issues with this car. In addition, Audi also offers a very comprehensive warranty package for the S5 Coupe.

Cost of Ownership for the Audi S5 coupe is low compared to its rivals. If you are in the market for an S5 Coupe the best trim to go for is the Premium Plus Trim, and we will be talking about the ownership cost for this trim. For the first year, you will have a cost of ownership around 27-grand, which includes the $5500 of tax and fees. In addition, it also includes first-year depreciation; which is the highest in its first year. The table below shows the five-year pricing of Premium Plus Trim.

The Audi introduced the A5 coupe in the late 2000s and since then they have produced the S5 coupe and RS5 Coupe. The car has gone through two generations and several iterations. The 2021 model is part of the second generation and will come with a facelift. The price for the model will start at $52,500 and the price for the premium plus trim will start at $56,100. In the previous years, the prices for the vehicle have stayed within this price bracket.

Warranty

Audi provides a comprehensive warranty for all its vehicles. The S5 Coupe is no exception, if things go wrong with your new S5 Coupe, Audi has your back with a comprehensive host of warranty packages. It should be said that the warranty packages are competitive and offer a great deal of reassurance.

Bumper to Bumper warranty

4 years/50000 miles; whichever is earlier

Powertrain warranty

4 years/50000 miles; whichever is earlier

24-hour roadside assistance

4 years/unlimited miles

Compared to its rivals Audi S5 Coupe comes with a great warranty package. Audi offers 4 years or 50k miles of bumper to bumper and powertrain warranty. It also comes with 4 years of unlimited roadside assistance. All the vehicles in the segment offer the same type of warranty package but Lexus offers a better powertrain warranty than the Audi.

Miles per dollar

In this we will be factoring the annual maintenance cost and how many miles the car runs on average in a year. You have no need to worry because Audi vehicles are among the most reliable cars in their segment. The Audi S5 Coupe has annual maintenance of around $450 for the first year and gives you a Miles per dollar ratio of 32.46 miles for a dollar. The Miles per dollar ratio of the S5 coupe is one of the best in the segment.

2021 Audi S5 Buying Advice

The 2021 S5 coupe is offered in three trims: premium, premium plus and prestige. The base model offers a lot of value for the money you are spending, but the Premium plus variant offers the best value for money. It costs 4,000 dollars more than the base trim but justifies it by offering more features such as the Audi virtual cockpit, adaptive suspension, and many others.

How about a used Audi S5 Coupe?

Luxury Sports Vehicles have high depreciation. So, if you are in the market for Luxury Sports Coupe you can pick one of the previous years Audi S5 Coupe Premium Plus trim at the price of the current base model. However, if you are planning to buy a second-hand previous year model you have to stick with the older outdated looks and feature list. Nevertheless, you will still get the same engine and other components.

2021 Audi S5 Engine and Performance

9.6/10

Not much has changed in the engine department, in the 2021 Audi S5 is the same as its predecessor. The engine is a 3.0 Liter turbocharged V6 which produces just shy of 350 horsepower. Only the Mercedes Benz E Class Coupe can top that figures, but it is much costlier than the Audi.

2021 Audi S5 Coupe Engine

The engine is mated to a slick eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, which offers both smooth and fast shifts.

The Audi all-wheel drivetrain along with the ton of power from the 3.0-liter V6 engine gets the car to triple-digit speeds in no given time. However, the Audi is still not powerful enough for the mighty Merc which even without an all-wheel drivetrain outran the Audi. Except for the Mercedes Benz E Class Coupe, the other rivals have a tough time keeping up with the Audi.

2021 Audi S5 Coupe Acceleration and Braking Performance.

The Audi is a very nimble car, all thanks to its brilliant Quattro all-wheel drivetrain and the well-engineered eight-speed gearbox. It only takes the Audi 4.3 seconds to get from a standstill to 60 miles per hour and it completes the quarter-mile in 12.8 seconds.

2021 Audi S5 Coupe Accelerate 0-60 MPH Just In 4.3 Sec

Only the mighty Merc is able to beat the Audi, but even with the horsepower advantage the Merc only outdoes the Audi by two-hundredths of a second. The other two competitors are slower than the Audi with the Lexus only managing to do 0-60 in 5.9 seconds.

The Audi’s brakes consist of 13.8 inches rotors in the front and 13-inch rotors in the rear. Which along with its pretty lightweight chassis helps the car stop from 60 mph to zero in a good 108 feet. The Audi is the quickest to stop from 60 to zero, but the other competitors are not far behind. All the cars in the comparison have stopping capabilities that are within the highway safety codes.

2021 Audi S5 Fuel Economy

6.7/10

The Audi has a pretty decent fuel economy, in fact, all the cars in the segment offer pretty decent and similar gas mileage. The EPA rates the car for 20 miles on a gallon of fuel in the city and 27 miles on a highway. As mentioned earlier all the cars in the segment have similar gas mileage. The BMW has a slightly lower city MPG of 19, but the highway figure is the same as the S5. Both the Mercedes and Lexus have a slightly better highway MPG of 28 but offer the same MPG in the city as S5.

The Audi does take a hit in the range because of its smaller fuel tank. However, it still does offer a decent range of 306 miles in the city and 413 miles on a highway. The E-Class coupe and the RC 350 F Sport have the best range in the comparison. Both offer the same gas mileage and have the same size fuel tank and hence they both offer 348 miles in the city and 487 miles on a highway.

2021 Audi S5 Interior

8.9/10

Most modern cars have pretty well designed and well-crafted interiors and the Audi S5 is no exception. It has a perfect blend of luxury, comfort and tech. All the cars in the comparison seat four people but the second row in all the cars are more there for the sake of a seat. The sloping roof design of all these cars makes it difficult for a tall person to sit in the back and the legroom is not enough for an adult. However, the rear seats of these cars can be used to stowaway your groceries or to take your children to the playground.

2021 Audi S5 Coupe Front Seats

The front seats are 10-way power-adjustable and are extremely comfortable. They also come with a ventilated and heating option. The leather upholstery along with the diamond stitching greatly matches the interior theme. The Interior of the Audi S5 is very ergonomic and everything you need is in your hands. There are buttons on the steering wheel which help you control the infotainment system without taking your hands off the wheels.

All the cars in this segment have very limited rear space considering they are coupes after all. However, considering everything the BMW M440i is a bit roomier in the rear compared to the others. Cargo space in these cars are also nothing to boast about, they all have very minimal cargo space. However, the BMW M440i has the best cargo space and it is also miles ahead of the competition.

How is the 2021 Audi S5 Coupe Infotainment System?

There is no shortage of tech in the Audi S5. The S5 comes with a bigger 10.1” MMI infotainment system and is a great experience to use. The 7” driver information system comes as standard and provides all the information required.

2021 Audi S5 Coupe Dashboard

The Premium Plus variant comes with Audi’s virtual cockpit which is very intuitive. The interior features of the S5 are:

  • 7” driver infotainment system
  • 10.1” MMI infotainment system - optional
  • Audi sound system with 10 speakers
  • Bang and Olufsen sound system with 19 speakers - optional
  • Three-zone climate control
  • Leather Alcantara upholstery

2021 Audi S5 Exterior

9.6/10

The Audi S5 Coupe is a great looking car and the 2021 Audi S5 facelift has made it even better looking. The facelift could not have come at a better time, the new honeycomb grille design is pretty similar to its siblings.

with the blacked-out treatment looks very menacing along with the redesigned bumpers. The new LED matrix headlight matches with the sharp body lines very well.

The Audi S5 has a shorter wheelbase compared to the others which help with its driving Dynamics. The Mercedes Benz E Class Coupe is the longest, widest, tallest and the heaviest of the lot.

2021 Audi S5 Safety

Audi vehicles are among the safest vehicles you can get in the market. They offer a long list of safety features and are built on sturdy platforms. The 2021 Audi S5 coupe is no different. The 2021 model is yet to be tested by the NHTSA or the IIHS. The previous model did well in the IIHS crashworthiness test scoring the best rating of ‘good’ in all the tests. As mentioned earlier, Audi vehicle comes loaded with safety features and here are some of them available on S5 Coupe:

  • Active lane Assist.
  • Pre-sense technology.
  • Adaptive cruise control.
  • Park steering assist.
  • Sport adaptive suspension.

2021 Audi S5 Competition

9.1/10

Audi S5 Coupe vs. BMW M440i

It is a very tight competition between these two cars. Both have similar amounts of ponies under their hood with Audi taking a bit of a lead. In terms of performance and handling, they are neck and neck.

2021 BMW M440i

Even in Luxury and comfort, there is little to pick between them. However, when it comes to cabin space and cargo space the BMW has an upper hand. So, your choice will come down to whether you want more ponies or more storage space.

Audi S5 Coupe vs. Lexus RC 350 F Sport

Audi S5 coupe has the upper hand in almost all the categories, whether its performance, handling, Luxury and comfort. Furthermore, in other categories, they are pretty much neck and neck except when it comes to looks.

2021 Lexus RC 350 F Sport

In our opinion, the Lexus with its aggressive styling has an edge in looks and makes its standout in the crowd. So, if you want showiness, go for the RC 350 F-Sport otherwise the sensible option is the Audi.

Audi S5 Coupe vs. Mercedes Benz E350

The Mercedes Benz E Class coupe has a major advantage over the Audi when it comes to engine performance. However, that is the only advantage Merc has going for it.

2021 Mercedes Benz E350

The Audi S5 coupe is on par with the Merc in terms of handling, gas mileage, luxury, and comfort. Another advantage the Audi has is its intelligent Quattro all-wheel-drive system. Oh also, the Merc is costlier than the Audi.

2021 Audi S5 Final Verdict

The Audi S5 is a great Luxury Sports Coupe. It offers a great engine, good handling, and loads of modern features. It is on par with the most Luxury Sports Coupes out there and better than the others. So, if you are in the market looking for a Luxury Sports Coupe, you cannot go wrong buying the new 2021 model with its upgraded looks.
