Overall Rating

The 2021 Audi Q3 is the German automaker's entry-level offering that takes on the likes of the Mercedes Benz GLA 250, the Lexus NX 300, and the Cadillac XT4. These vehicles have made a name for themselves in the market for being attractive options. For 2021, Audi has added more standard kit to the Q3 such as the updated S-Line exterior which is standard on 45 TFSI models, and new standard safety and convenience features along with added features to optional packages. The 2021 model lineup of the Audi Q3 carries a starting price of $36,000 for the entry-level Premium trim and goes up to $39,300 for the range-topping Premium Plus.

2021 Audi Q3 Features

Audi, for 2021, has taken the minimalist approach and limited the Q3 to only 2 trims. The S Line Premium, which starts from $36,000, and the S Line Premium Plus, which starts from $39.300. Features of the other trims are either put into packages or given as standard. The following is the trim table.

The Audi Q3 starts with the Premium S line now. It gets new standard features which make it quite an attractive option now. Power adjustable front seats, lane departure warning and shift paddles on the steering wheel make for interesting additions to the base Q3.

The S Line Premium Plus also gets a decent boost in standard features as well. One such feature is the inclusion of adaptive cruise control.

Both trims come standard with the S Line exterior package which used to be optional before, which includes 19in wheels and S line branded door sill inlays.

2021 Audi Q3 Maintenance, Reliability and Warranty

Being a luxury brand, Audi makes sure any of its offerings are capable of lasting for years and keep its customers satisfied. Whether it is safety or reliability, the Q3, like any other Audi, will make sure to give you your money’s worth.

Consistent reliability is necessary for customers. They depend on their cars daily. Big problems or small, any issues with a car can alter an individual’s perception of a vehicle. Now among the marketing efforts and conflicting reviews of vehicles, it becomes difficult to get an accurate picture of how a car is. This is where JD Power Report comes in. A consolidation of owner ratings that form a collective report.
JD Power doesn't have a rating for the 2021 Q3 yet, however they did give the 2020 model a score of 71 out of 100.

Recalls are another avenue that lets us determine the reliability of a car. In previous years, the Q3 has always been recalled for minor issues, but the nature of the issues themselves can lead to big problems on the road.

  • The recall in 2018 was for a faulty front indicator. This might not lead to major problems all the time but does increase the chance of confusion on the road for oncoming traffic, which can lead to fatality.
  • 2017 saw recalls for 2 issues. One was to fix the issue for the side marker lights, which seems small when compared to the second issue. The second issue was faulty braking lights. To us, this is a serious problem as it drastically increases the chance of a traffic altercation.

The sticker price isn’t the only cost one needs to consider when buying a vehicle, especially when investing in a luxury vehicle such as the Q3. Costs such as fuel, insurance, repairs, etc need to be considered. If not, it can cause a severe strain on one’s pocket in the future.

Final Cost of Ownership

The cost of owning an Audi Q3 for a period of 5 years amounts to around $48.5K. For a luxury SUV of this segment, this cost can be considered decent. The Audi Q3 manages 1.194 miles to the Dollar.

Audi’s warranty keeps everything crystal clear with no hidden “asterisks”. Warranty break up is as follows:

  • Bumper-to-bumper coverage: 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first
  • First scheduled maintenance service: 12 months or 10,000 miles whichever occurs first
  • 24-hour Roadside Assistance for 4 years
  • Audi Corrosion and Perforation Warranty: 12 years or unlimited miles.

2021 Audi Q3 Buying Advice

The buying decision for the Audi Q3 becomes easier in 2021 as the trims have decreased. Our recommendation is getting the Premium Plus trim with the Technology Package. This will not only give you features as adaptive cruise control and Park assist, but with the technology package you also get a Bang & Olufsen stereo system along with an improved gauge cluster and infotainment display.

Should you invest in a used Q3?

As not everyone can justify buying a new car, used cars have a great market. Maximizing the purchase power of your dollar is good, especially when spending that money on a vehicle as remarkable as the Q3. If in the market for a used Q3, consider the 2019 model. Not only will give you access to the latest features, but also provide you the most value for your money. However, there is a possibility of better yielding options out there.

2021 Audi Q3 Engine and Performance

Similar to last year, the Q3 in 2021 will be powered by a 2L inline 4 engine. This incredible engine makes 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. It has incredible low and mid-range torque, which helps this vehicle feel extremely quick.

The 8-speed automatic transmission which comes standard is smooth in shifts and snappy in response, which uplifts the driving experience.

Among its competition, the Audi Q3 is the least expensive and makes considerable power for the price. The XT4 makes the most power while costing the most. However, the price increase is not proportional to the increase in power.

2021 Audi Q3 Acceleration and Braking

Having the horsepower doesn't always mean having a good performance. To see how a vehicle performs, metrics like acceleration and braking are taken into account. From a standstill, the Q3 takes 7 seconds flat to reach 60 mph, and stopping from speed takes around 122 feet. A quarter-mile from standing takes 15.7 feet.

2021 Audi Q3 SUV accelerates 0-60 mph in 7.0 sec

In normal driving mode, a slight can be experienced between the pedal input and output. However, changing the drive mode to S mode made that lag disappear.

The Q3 performs at par with the rest of the class, however, at the lowest price. The others do move slightly ahead in the quarter-mile, however, not worry worthy. The Q3 doesn't have the best braking performance in the class but is among the top.

2021 Audi Q3 Fuel Economy

When buying a luxury vehicle, people are not really concerned about how much fuel economy they are getting. However, over time, the cost of it adds up. The Q3 doesn’t get that good of a fuel economy. Managing only 19 mpg in the city while it gets 27 mpg on the highway.

2021 Audi Q3 Interior

The interiors of the Q3 manages to feel way more engaging than last year. Things like power-adjustable seats and steering-mounted paddle shifters all are standard now. These new additions do attract a lot of attention.

The one issue plaguing the Q3 was limited rear row seating space. This issue seems to have been resolved. The seating space in the reais ample with good thigh support. Front seats never had any complaints. The driving position is very engaging and no issues with visibility. Both the front and rear provide a clear view of the road.

There seems to be a slight issue of in-cabin storage spaces though. However, Cargo's capacity is on point. 23.7 cubic inches makes it the class leader.

Compared to the class, the Q3 does have slightly less seating room. However, it isn’t something that is a deal-breaker. The Q3’s cargo capacity is the best in the class, which we believe will be of more interest to potential customers.

How is the infotainment system of the 2021 Audi Q3?

The Audi Connect system provided in the Q3 is very capable. It is coupled with an 8.8-inch infotainment screen and linked to the 10.3 in gauge cluster screen. The Technology package lets you upgrade to a 10.1-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3 in gauge cluster screen.

With the S line exterior package as standard now, the exteriors of the Q3 feel a lot more engaging than before. 19-inch wheels and S line branded door sill inlays are features you get as standard which you didn’t before. For 2021, the Q3 gets the S-Line styling pack as standard with the 45 TFSI powertrain which gives it a sharper look.

If we just talk about the exterior of the Q3, we feel it is rather superior to the others in its class. The Q3 strikes a balance between sporty and wholesome. It urges you to do some spirited driving but also makes it seem normal to have countryside trim with your family.

2021 Audi Q3 Competition

2021 Audi Q3 vs Mercedes-Benz GLA 250

The GLA 250 is a worthy opponent. With great interior and exterior styling, a fantastic engine, and an impressive collection of features. However, the Q3 trumps it in almost every field. Whether it is engine power or performance, looks, or, in our opinion, character.

Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 SUV

2021 Audi Q3 vs Lexus NX 300

The NX 300 has sharp lines on the outside and a punchy engine on the inside. Even though it makes more power than the Q3, it doesn't perform any better than it. In our opinion, the Q3, with its subtle styling (at least when compared to the NX 300) and lower price makes for a better choice between the two.

Lexus NX 300 SUV

2021 Audi Q3 vs CadillacXT4

The XT4 costs more but performs worse than the Q3. It does have a decent collection of features, but it isn't something the Q3 doesn't offer. Overall, here, Q3 comes on top.

2021 Audi Q3 Final Verdict

The 2021 Q3 has some surprising but welcome additions which increase the value of the vehicle as a whole. The Q3 has always been a very enticing vehicle. It managed to make itself, even more, engaging this time around. It trumps its competitors and provides the best in almost every category and with a starting price of just $36,000, the Q3 is without a doubt one of the best premium compact crossovers in the market.
