When Audi originally introduced the Audi E-Tron for the 2019 model year, many experts praised the E-Tron for its uniform acceleration and generosity, many questioned its high price tag. However, come the year 2021, the e-tron has undergone some notable revamps that further strengthen the SUV’s case. Moreover, Audi has also made the e-tron much more affordable for the model year 2021, by launching a new trim. Audi has added a new Premium trim to the lineup that makes the 2021 e-tron even more accessible, as it is about $9,000 lesser than the Premium Plus trim.

Speaking of changes, since the car is still relatively fresh, the e-tron gets only a handful yet significant set of revamps for the model year 2021. The 2021 Audi e-tron gets improved battery capacity. Apart from that, the 2021 Audi e-tron Premium Plus trim adds dual charging ports, one on each side of the vehicle. In a nutshell, the 2021 Audi e-tron comes out as a better package than before with improved hardware and software adjustments for improved efficiency.

Expert Review

The Audi e-tron is definitely a looker, but it has a hotter sibling, known as the 2021 Audi e-tron Sportback, which we review separately.  Both these SUVs are essentially the same with the same chassis and powertrain layout, but the Sportback is much more of a looker. The prices for the 2021 Audi e-tron will start from $65,900 for the base Premium trim and ranges up to $79,100 for the range-topping Prestige trim. 

Audi has made an effort to broaden the spectrum of the potential customer of the e-tron SUV by reducing its starting price via the means of a new entry-level model. With such a price tag, the 2021 Audi e-tron goes all guns blazing against some heavyweights of the segment such as the Tesla Model XMercedes-Benz EQC 400, and the Jaguar I-Pace.

The 2021 Audi e-Tron comes in two body styles – SUV and Sportback, the 2021 Audi e-tron Sportback, as the name suggests, gets a Sportback body style with swoopier, more low-set looks. We review the 2021 Audi e-tron Sportback separately. 

For the model year 2021, Audi has introduced a new base trim level (Premium) for the e-Tron SUV making it much more affordable. The 2021 Audi e-tron gets three trim levels - Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige.

The three trims of the 2021 Audi e-tron differ only on the basis of the available features. Apart from that, all e-Tron models are equipped with the same powertrain, consisting of a lithium-ion battery pack, two electric motors, and Quattro all-wheel drive.

The Premium is the most affordable trim of the 2021 Audi e-tron and comes at a starting price of $65,900. Despite being the base trim, the e-tron Premium is impressively loaded and offers highlights such as Audi Virtual Cockpit Driver's digital display, Audi MMI touch interface system with NavigationAudi MMI touch interface system with Navigation, and much more. 

The next trim level on the line is the Premium Plus which starts at $74,800. For these mid-level trim, the premium trim features include Bang & Olufsen premium sound system, air quality ionizer and fragrance, Audi Matrix-design LED headlights, Audi adaptive cruise assist, and heated and ventilated front seats.

The range-topping Prestige trim level starts at $79,100 and gets all the features that Audi has to offer. These features include a heads-up display, driver assistance package, Valcona leather upholstery, and individually contoured seats.

Standard safety features include front and rear collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, a surround-view parking camera system, a rearview camera, and parking sensors. 

2021 Audi e-tron electric Maintenance, Reliability and Warranty

It isn't easy to know how reliable the e-Tron will be, given that it has bespoke mechanicals and too new for the market. There are lots of positives about the 2020 Audi e-Tron. MotorTrend even named it a finalist for its SUV of the Year Award. Audi has long enjoyed a sought-a image, but its owner satisfaction results haven't always matched this.

Reliability and Ownership Costs

The E-Tron earned a 2019 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation and a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA for the 2019 and 2020 models. The reliability is uncompromised, and the car is sturdy enough to last for many years to come. 

None of the other models featured in the Carbuyer Driver Power survey bear direct comparison to the e-Tron, but the brand's Audi Q2 SUV, launched in 2017, was its highest-rated model. It finished 26th out of 75 cars in the survey, and, as one of Audi's most recent models, this could point towards Audi learning from past mistakes.

Ownership cost for a vehicle includes insurance, tax, fees, maintenance cost, and depreciation. However, we don’t have the full data for ownership cost for the Audi e-Tron, since it's relatively a new car to the market. The e-Tron was only introduced to the market in 2020 and this is only the second year of the vehicle.

The 2021 Audi E-Tron electric SUV gets an $8,800 lower base price and an 18-mile range increase for the new model year. The $66,995 base price isn't a price cut. It reveals the lower-tier Premium trim level Audi earlier said was on the route. The E-Tron will cost you peanuts to run compared with conventional alternatives. As well as the cheap electricity costs, you'll also benefit from relatively inexpensive road tax.


The E-Tron comes with the same unremarkable limited and powertrain warranty as other models in the lineup. Jaguar provides a similar policy for the I-Pace and also Tesla for its vehicles. It includes:

  • Limited warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
  •  Powertrain warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
  •  Electric components are covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles
  • Complimentary maintenance is covered for 1 year or 10,000 miles

Meanwhile, Audi offers a similar duration of battery warranty, but with no mileage limit. The E-Tron’s battery itself is bought with the car, and Audi currently offers no battery lease option.

As we discussed above, the 2021 Audi e-tron has become more affordable for the model year as a new Premium trim has been introduced with prices starting from $65,900. 

Though the 2021 Audi e-tron Premium is decently loaded, yet we suggest you go for the mid-tier Premium Plus trim as it gets a number of worthy feature upgrades from the base trim, at a justifiable price tag. 

Is buying a used car Audi e Tron a good idea?

Audi launched the e-Tron for 2019 as an all-new SUV. They recently started this SUV variant with a lower coupe-like roofline and a slightly longer driving range. Otherwise, the e-Tron carries over unchanged.

If you’re only interested in the standard e-Tron SUV, you may be able to save money by shopping for a pre-owned 2019 e-Tron. But if you have some extra dough, then we suggest spending on the 2021 Audi e-Tron electric SUV which has an extended range and lower base price too.

The 2021 Audi e-tron's powertrain setup is one of the most versatile ones and offers great sync for different driving conditions. The 2021 Audi e-tron can completely disengage the front electric motor, thus saving energy and increasing the range. However, switch to the Sport mode and the front motor comes into action, amplifying the power figures to 402 hp and 490 lb.-ft. of torque. 

The 2021 Audi e-tron is a little behind in terms of brute power when compared to the competition. While the range increase on the e-Tron is an improvement, it still isn’t as impressive as its primary competitor, the 2021 Tesla Model X that belts out 518 hp. Minimalism can be seen in the cabin as there aren't unnecessary elements in the cabin to distract the driver. The 2021 Audi e-tron may not be the fastest electric car in here but is definitely the most practical and family-oriented. The cargo space on offer in the 2021 e-tron is segment-leading. The trunk space of the 2021 Tesla Model X is also impressive, while the EQC 400 needs to work on this aspect.

The e-tron, with its design and styling, blends right into the brand’s orthodox design philosophy and somewhat slots itself between the Q5 and the Q7, however, with a much lower stance. Even though the car has a masculine feel, it isn't too wide from the front to distort the aerodynamics.
