The Front-Wheel Drive models have been dropped and now the A4 will have All-Wheel Drive as its standard powertrain, across the lineup. Along with these changes, there have been additions to the creature comforts list and driver assistance in all the trims.

2021 Audi A4
The Audi A4 becomes more powerful for the model year 2021.

The 2021 Audi A4 comes at a starting price of $31,900. For the record, the prices for the 2021 model have seen a slight bump as compared to the prices of the 2020 Audi A4. Yet, with all the updates and upgrades aboard, this bump seems more than justified. The 2021 Audi A4 will reach dealerships across the nation by Fall 2020. 2021 Audi A4 Maintenance, Reliability and Warranty

Audi makes the most technologically and mechanically competent cars with very high-reliability quotient and powerful engine options. Audi cars are one of those cars which age well. JD Power also indicates that A4 owners have a very fuss-free ownership experience because of the engineering that leads the Audi cars to be the best in class.

Reliability and Ownership Costs

The 2021 Audi A4 starts at just a notch above $40,000 and the range-topping Prestige trim costs nearly $50,000. There are many areas where owning an Audi A4 is not that much of an expensive option.

Audi’s claim of being a reliable car also is cemented by the fact that there were no recalls for the latest-generation A4. What is more surprising is that the NHTSA reports 0 consumer complaints regarding the A4! Talking of repairs, as the Audi falls under the umbrella of the Volkswagen Group, expect these prices to be a little bit more than the others out there.

When it comes to the ownership cost a 2021 Audi A4 will cost nearly $62,000 over a span of 5 years, if driven for 15,000 miles each year. The A4 has been riddled by depreciation and this is one thing that sticks to all the luxury cars of this time. All the other cars in the segment demand a similar cost to own in this time period.

Warranty

Audi provides an average warranty among the other brands in the luxury segment. The Limited Warranty lasts covers 4 years or 50,000 miles. There’s also a Powertrain Warranty of the same mileage and time duration.

Criteria

Period

Limited warranty

Powertrain warranty

4 years/ 50,000 miles; whichever is earlier

Complimentary maintenance service

1 year/ 10,000 miles; whichever is earlier

The complimentary maintenance is also average and is covered for 1 year or 10,000 miles. The A4 is also covered under Audi’s 24-Hour Roadside Assistance for 4 years, at no additional charge.

Miles Per Dollar

We had put an estimate of $55,000 for 5 years, 15,000 miles each year. This equates to $55,000 for 75000 miles, that is, a running cost of $0.73 per mile! These calculation factors in parameters such as depreciation, fuel costs, insurance, etcetera.

2021 Audi A4 Buying Advice

To us, the Premium Plus is the trim to go for as it provides the best cost-to-benefit ratio. It adds a host of features to the table such as Audi’s Virtual Cockpit Plus, a wireless smartphone charging pad, memory function for the driver’s seat, keyless entry system, and LED DRLs.

The Driver's Assistance package also offers a nice deal by adding adaptive cruise control and active lane assist to the mix. Finally, we’d suggest the more powerful engine option because of the extra ponies it makes, without compromising on the frugality.

Is buying a used Audi A4 a good idea?

According to Edmunds.com, the depreciation for a 2020 Audi A4 is nearly a massive 24.12% for year 1 and then it tends to slow down to 12%. So, getting a used one will save you some good money.

We’d recommend a second-hand A4 any day due to its high-reliability quotient and the impressive build quality. The engine options are robust and they tend to last nearly 80,000 to 100,000 miles without any mechanical hassles, given the maintenance scheduled is followed diligently.

2021 Audi A4 Engine and Performance

7.0/10

Under the hood of the 2021 Audi A4 is a 2.0L TSFI turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that is tuned to provide different outputs in different trims. The lower output variant, also known as 40 TFSI, which comes as standard in all A4s, pumps out 201 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque.

2021 Audi A4 packs a 2.0L Turbo Inline-4 assisted by a 12-volt hybrid system.

The more powerful state of the tune (45 TFSI) gives the 2.0L turbo-4 an increment of 60 horsepower and 37 lb-ft. What's new for the model year 2021 is that both of these powerplants will be assisted by a 12-volt hybrid system which will give a 13-hp surge in power as compared to the power figures of the 2020 Audi A4.

Regardless of the engine option you go for, both the powertrains of the 2021 Audi A4 are mated to a 7-speed S-Tronic Dual Clutch Automatic transmission which directs all the power to the road through Audi’s Quattro All-Wheel Drive system.

The 2021 Audi A4 gets air suspension and Quattro AWD as standard.

The Turbo 4-banger does not feel underpowered on the highways. City driving is a breeze with the perfectly tuned suspension doing its job well. You are getting air suspension which will make the drive even plusher. The 7-speed auto makes gear shifting smooth and slick which means overtaking isn’t an issue for the A4.

For 2021, the Audi A4 gains hybrid assistance which adds 13 horsepower to the equation, at 0 RPM. All the cars here are equipped with All-Wheel Drive and automatic gearboxes. The A4 has a dual-clutch setup making the shifts seamless.

The Lexus IS 350 tops the power output race with the most brute and as it is a naturally aspirated one, it gives some amazing melody out of its exhaust. The torque on it comes way later in the RPM band due to the naturally aspirated setup. Talking of torque, the BMW tops the torque game, which is produced way early in its RPM range all thanks to the turbo setup. The rest have similar torque outputs.

2021 Audi A4 Acceleration and Braking Performance

The 2.0L Turbo 4-banger on the 2020 A4 did the 0-60 sprint in just 5.2 seconds, with the quarter-mile standing at 13.8 seconds. The Quattro All-Wheel Drive system works wonders when it comes to putting all the power down on the ground efficiently and kudos also goes to the S-Tronic dual-clutch transmission to enable smooth and quick gear changes.

For the 2021 model year, the 2.0L turbo-4 engines will be assisted by a 12-volt hybrid which aids the A4 to reach better acceleration figures and better quarter-mile timings due to the extra 13 horsepower being available from the start.

The 2021 Audi A4 can accelerate from 0-60 MPH in 5.2 seconds.

As a result, the 2021 Audi A4 accelerates from 0-60 MPH in 5.2 seconds and clocking the quarter of a mile lap in 13.6 seconds. Though the 0-60 acceleration digit remains the same for the 2021 A4, there is a slight improvement in the quarter-mile figures.

The braking system remains the same for the 2021 model year. The Quattro All-Wheel Drive system provides very good traction at all times which automatically translates to a solid braking performance. That being said, this system along with the 13.3-inch rotors in the front and 13-inch rotors at the rear, makes the A4 one of those sedans that can come to a halt from 60 miles per hour in below 100 feet!

The Audi A4 is the only sedan in this segment that can come to a halt from 60 MPH under 100 feet.

The brake pedal feels firm and the travel on the pedal is perfect for day-to-day commutes. The bite from the brakes is good and there are no signs of fading anywhere during braking.

Currently, the Audi A4 is the fastest car off the line, to cross the quarter-mile and also, to come to a halt. That kind of number is unmatched even by more powerful sedans, like the Lexus IS350 with its V6! The Mercedes-Benz C300 4MATIC remains the slowest performer in terms of acceleration because of the time the turbos take to spool up.

The Merc is also very lazy on the brakes. The 2021 BMW 330i's acceleration figures are very close to that of the Audi but its capabilities are limited by its xDrive system which doesn’t provide as much traction as the Quattro does.

2021 Audi A4 Ride and Handling

The 2021 Audi A4 is offered with two engine configurations - 40 TFSI and 45 TFSI. While the 40 TFSI belts out 201 hp, the 45 TFSI amplifies this figure to 261 hp. However, regardless of the engine configuration you go for, one thing that you can be sure about is that the A4 is an ultimate delight to drive.

No, the Audi A4 won't earn you laurels on track, 'cause it's just not supposed to do that. But what it will offer you around the town and out on the highway will surely bring a smile to your face. The Audi A4 can cruise at triple-digit figures all day long without getting buzzy. Encountered a bad patch of road? No worries, the A4 will soak the harshest of bumps without transmitting them to the cabin, courtesy of the standard air suspension.

Now coming to the handling part, the Audi A4 has always been exceptionally good at handling curves. Now, with the welcome change of the standard Quattro AWD drivetrain, we expect this bay Audi to grow even stronger on this facet.

2021 Audi A4 Fuel Economy

8.0/10

There’s a turbo 4-banger powering the A4, which, considering is just a 2-liter powerplant, provides impressive fuel economy. The EPA rates the fuel economy for the 2020 Audi A4 at 24 in the city and 32 on the highway. The combined EPA rated economy turns out to be 27 miles per gallon. The 2021’s 12-volt hybrid system will provide a better fuel economy which isn’t rated by the EPA as of yet. However, we expect the 2021 Audi A4 to return a city/highway/combined MPG rating of 25,32,28 if driven sanely. Remember folks, the more the spirit in driving lesser the miles you get per gallon.

The disadvantage of a bigger naturally aspirated engine is very evident here in the case of the Lexus. It has a similar tank to the Merc but gives out way fewer miles per gallon due to the comparatively inefficient V6 under its hood. \

Talking of the Merc, it also has the bigger tanks of the comparison and provides the most range, everywhere! The Bimmer also outclasses the Audi here posting better mpg figures and range.

The Lexus provides a nice and big cabin in the front but the rear might prove to be a bit of a squeeze and not recommended for tall occupants. 8.0/10

The A4 is a very smart looking car. THe A4h got a new headlight and all LED taillights and a more pronounced grille for the model year 2020, which gave this sedan a fresh look and a competitive edge in the entry-level luxury sedan segment.

The Black Optic Package adds several black exterior accents and unique 19-inch wheels to the 2021 Audi A4

For the model year 2021,  the changes made in terms of styling is not a lot, rather a few minor additions such as the optional Black optic package. The Package adds in a lot more black exterior accents and unique 19-inch wheels that make the car seem like it has a planted stance.

The A4 takes a more conventional approach towards its styling. The profile is stylish and box-like, leaving the sloping roofline to the Sportbacks. There have been tweaks made to the bumper as well. You get silver trims to make the A4 feel more premium.

The rear fascia of the 2021 A4 is highly inspired by that of the 2021 Audi A6.

There are creases that have been added to the rear three-quarters, inspired by the A6. The front bumper has been tweaked too and now you also get a vent between the headlights. In a nutshell, the 2021 Audi A4 portrays a young, brawny, and aggressive look that lends it some serious road presence.

The Audi A4 stands the longest of the bunch and also the widest. The height is similar to the others. All this dimension is very smartly utilized to provide maximum space inside for the occupants.

The Audi A4 is one of the longest and the widest sedans of its segment.

Speaking of the rivals, the Mercedes has the weight advantage here and is also the lowest to the ground which means you are more likely to scrape the under-side of your Merc than the others in the group.

The BMW weighs in as the heaviest and with the longest wheelbase. But it carries all the weight well and rides smooth. Even the braking is impressive but not as impressive as the Audi.

2021 Audi A4 Safety

9.0/10

The 2021 Audi A4 has not yet been sent into a pole or a barrier either by NHTSA or IIHS. However, since it is a carry-over model with a handful of tweaks, we can consider the safety ratings of the previous-year models.

When crash-tested by the NHTSA and the IIHS, the 2020 A4 achieved the highest accolades – a ‘5-star- rating from the NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick accolade from the IIHS. We expect the same safety prowess from the 2021 Audi A4.

The 2020 Audi A4 bagged a 5-star Overall Safety Rating from NHTSA.

However, the 2021 Audi A4 is said to receive additional driver-assistance technology when compared to the 2020 model year, thus making it even safer than its predecessor. Audi has fit in a lot of safety tech inside the A4 which include adaptive cruise control, lane departure prevention, Matrix LEDs, active lane keep assist, etc.

Moreover, Audi's Safety Sense System has also been made standard from the 2021 model year. Also, there are crumple zones inside the chassis that can send the impact of the crash away from the occupants.

The 2021 A4 gets Audi's Safety Sense System as standard.

Some of the most eminent safety features of the 2021 Audi A4 are:

  • Electronic Stability Control(ESC)
  • ABS And Driveline Traction Control

2021 Audi A4 Competition

9.1/10

2021 Audi A4 vs. 2021 Mercedes Benz C300 4MATIC

The C-Class is Merc’s entry point in the market and it offers a lot of kit for an entry car. The brand focuses on providing the utmost luxury and comfort to the occupants for as little as it can, but only the rear ones.

2021 Mercedes Benz C300 4MATIC Sedan

The A4 provides all that the Mercedes offers, but with a sporty character to it. It caters to the front occupants too. The Mercedes outclasses the Audi in terms of in-cabin tech but the Audi proves that it is a better driving machine.

2021 Audi A4 vs. 2021 Lexus IS 350

The Lexus provides a very strong powerplant under its hood which sounds good but the A4 bags all the performance attributes. The A4 is more frugal, has better acceleration, and stops well than the Lexus. .

2021  Lexus IS 350 Sedan

The Lexus almost mimics a full-size sedan and thus has a weight disadvantage. Both the cars are similarly equipped on the inside and offer a lot of creature comforts. The Lexus, being Japanese, is more reliable than the Audi and the repair costs are very low

2021 Audi A4 vs. 2021 BMW 330i xDrive

The Bimmer is the one that provides tough competition to the Audi in terms of performance. It is more frugal and also has a very robust powertrain but is bogged down by an inferior All-Wheel Drive system.

2021  BMW 330i xDrive Sedan

It also has the superior iDrive infotainment system which is a very intuitive one to use. The Audi is very well-balanced and provides the best mix between comfort, practicality, and performance but looking at what BMW offers, it might not look as great a proposition.

2021 Audi A4 Final Verdict

8.1/10

The 2021 Audi A4 is the most fitting car for someone who wants the ultimate comfort while driving, around town, or on highways. It is fun to drive and has a lot of safety tech on board to make the drive a safe one.

The 2021 Audi A4 is a competitive sedan that offers you a grand entry into the entry-level luxury sedan segment.

The Quattro helps in putting the power down smoothly and you can also go long distances on this. With the hybrid powertrain coming in in 2021, you can rest assured that the A4 will act as your long-termer with the subsequent ownership costs getting down.

From a stand still to 60 on the speedo in approximately 7 seconds. More powerful engine and sporty aesthetics roar and always kept asking for more until I had the ignition issue fixed. Now the output doesn't seem to be as engaging as it used to

Good?!

Expected better from Audi when it comes to power and speed. It is not slow but it is not fast either which is a little disappointing, to say the least.
