Is it a coincidence that the ultimate exotic luxury coupe happens to be an Aston Martin flagship production model? Probably not. The 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Coupe is not only an ultimatum product for Aston Martin, but it is also an apt description of what Aston Martin wants its cars to be, in terms of speed, quality, and comfort.

Aston Martin DBS Superleggera review

With a starting price of $304,995, the 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera is indeed a rare affair. This car is a proper trophy car for those who want a trophy jewel for their garage. Sharing its design language with the DB11, the 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera comes with next to no changes this year. With the release date set for Early 2021. However, what comes as a bounty for the Bond, James Bond fans, is the 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera 007 Edition that comes at a price of $365,000.

The DBS Superleggera is a grand tourer that can help you munch miles with the utmost ease while keeping you engulfed in supreme opulence and magnificence. Moving on the outside, the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera looks nothing less than an enchantress that has the license to kill by its looks. Moving away from the form factor, the 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera is powered by a brawny 5.2L Twin-turbo V12 engine belting out a loco 715 hp. This powerhouse can make the 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera go from 0-60 mph in an astonishing 3.2 seconds

Well, the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera has a lot to offer. But is it the only one in its league? Hell no, the DBS Superleggera Coupe finds itself in the pit against some all-time champs of this segment like the Ferrari 812 Superfast and the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ. So how well does the DBS Superleggera look in front of such glorified rivals? Scroll down our 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera review to find out.

2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Maintenance, Reliability and Warranty

Aston Martin generally needs a bit more care than other cars, but they sure return a lot of reliability if you do that. This is the reason why perhaps the reliability factor of Aston Martins has seen mixed reviews.

That being said, the people at Aston Martin have been really working hard on reliability which is the reason why we are seeing models like the V8 Vantage having required only one recall in its entire lifetime. The reason why people find faults in Aston Martins repeatedly is that they are built by hand to this day. Also, their cars are not sold mass market so that is another factor.

Reliability and Ownership Costs

You will be quite pleased to know that the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Coupe neither has any recalls in 2021 nor 2020. This is the best example to showcase how far Aston Martin has come with its reliability. Therefore, anybody wanting to opt for the 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Coupe has one less thing to ponder about. To get a full picture you can usually look up the JD Power review, unfortunately, the JP Power does not review high-end luxury sports cars.

As for the ownership cost for the 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, the complete data is not available. The DBS has an annual maintenance cost of somewhere around $2.5k. It also has on an average depreciate 6 percent in the first three years when new. The ownership cost for DBS Superleggera is much better than most of its rivals.

After the taxes and other fees, you can get the 2020 model DBS Superleggera at just under $330k.

Warranty

Coming from a premium manufacturer for a bouquet flagship vehicle, Aston Martin provides a really unique warranty package for the DBS Superleggera Coupe. Take the straight three-year protection policy for example, it does not expire at any specific mileage.

However, that plus point gets negated as the buyers of the DBS Superleggera Coupe will have to pay every time, they visit the showroom for maintenance visits, there is no complimentary scheduled maintenance policy as standard.

2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Buying Advice

The DBS Superleggera Coupe is available in a single trim in itself, so use that time saved pondering to customize your DBS Superleggera Coupe to add many cosmetic and tech bits to personalize your Grand Tourer to your heart's content.

Is buying a used car Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Coupe a good idea?

Buying a used Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Coupe is probably a good idea and you will save some money. while you may miss out on customization opportunities, but you can make some aftermarket modifications.

2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Engine and Performance

9.0/10

The 5.2-liter twin-turbocharged V12 doing the duties in the DBS Superleggera Coupe is an in-house engine all-alloy design. The engine was not just designed with performance in mind, lightness was also a priority.

The peak outputs of the 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera stands at 715 hp and 664 lb.-ft of torque, a point worth mentioning is the torque output, not about the figure itself but the availability of it, which is from 1,800 rpm all the way to 5,000 rpm. Therefore, you can enjoy no matter where you are on the rev band, the intense pulling power can put a big smile on your face as you throttle your way out of a corner.

The 5.2L twin-turbo V12 engine of the 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera.

Let us talk about driving modes, especially the GT driving mode, which turns the engine into a docile mill, and you can calmly toot around town with smooth throttle responses and gearshifts. Therefore, for anybody wanting to use this V12 behemoth as a daily driver, their prayers have been answered.

And obviously, there are sportier driving modes which transform the coupe’s character completely. Each stab of the throttle results in a guttural bellow from the exhaust, people far off can hear it coming.

The 2021 Ferrari 812 Superfast has the largest engine here tied with the Aventador S but it has the best power and torque figures by quite a margin. The 2021 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ's 770 hp stands second, but it does not lag behind when comes to power delivery and engine performance.

2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Coupe Acceleration and Braking Performance

Another reason why the DBS Superleggera Coupe acts like a Saturn V rocket on wheels is the ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission that drives the torque through the rear wheels. Not only are the gearbox relay responsive, but the final drive is also shorter, and the shifts happen seamlessly.

Which is the reason for those super quick rocketing traits of the DBS. The 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera can shoot from 0-60 MPH in 3.2 seconds. Keep the throttle pinned and the 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera will reach its top speed of 211 miles in no time.

The 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera accelerates from 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds.

Speaking of the braking arrangement, the 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera possesses 16.1-inch brake rotors on its front wheels and 14.2-inchers towards the back, The rotors are big and subtle enough to stop the car even in harsh braking conditions and no amount of jitter comes through.

Considering the rivalry between the Italians, both of them play one up with each other. With a difference of just one-tenth of a second from the Ferrari 812 Superfast, the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ takes the pole position here with a 0-60 acceleration time of 2.6 seconds. 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Fuel Economy

7.0/10

As all other twin-turbo V12s go, the DBS Superleggera Coupe is a heavy consumer of gasoline. Since there are absolutely no changes taking place for the new model, the 2021 DBS Superleggera offers 14 MPG in the city, 22 MPG on the highway, and 18 mpg combined - the same figures as the 2020 model.

However, the car is also meant to be used as a Grand Tourer, so Aston Martin has a 20.9-gallon fuel tank so that you can cruise for a lot of miles on a stretch. So, highway runs should not be a problem when you fill the tank to the brim.

The Aventador S is perhaps the least efficient car on the planet, the DBS Superleggera Coupe has an impressive range, owing to its grand touring intent. However, the margin by which it is better is small.

2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Interior

8.0/10

The DBS Superleggera Coupe ships as a 2+2, however, the rear seats should only be used for emergencies. Why should you sit at the back when all the fun and frolic is at the front.

2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggra Coupe central console

The mix of Caithness leather and Alcantara makes the interior of the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera look smartly attired, and more importantly, expensive which should not be a surprise considering how much the car costs. The seats are comfy, with memory and heating functions, among other standard features mostly pertaining to driver-assist features.

It is a grand touring sports car, after all, so you better believe there is plenty of luxuries for comfortable and long stays inside the cabin. However, the cockpit was not designed with ergonomics as a priority apparently, foibles include the touch-sensitive climate controls, they are tricky to access while your eyes on the road, and they are situated quite low.

The room is plenty at the front, especially for the taller ones, and then there is decent power-adjustability for that comfortable fit. Though the car sits quite low, getting in and out of the car is quite easy.

For a second, let us concentrate on the rear seats. They are best suited for small children, or better as your handbags and other carriers. The legroom and headroom at the back are dismal, even more, is the access to those seats, especially for taller adults.

That has to do with the front seats, they do not slide forward enough. The standard leather upholstery is beautifully stitched around the cabin, you can also opt for finishes with open-pore ash wood, carbon fiber, or satin-finished chrome.

How is the 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Coupe’s infotainment system?

Some would be disappointed to see the older Mercedes COMAND system as the infotainment, but the infotainment is quite easy to understand which is nice. The LCD screen itself is a bit small and the click wheel-touchpad combo feels dated to use, though fairly intuitive. The 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera comes with an 8-inch screen as its primary infotainment offering while there are 2 more screens that serve as driver displays.

There is no generosity with the infotainment as there are with the comfort features. But there is an adequate amount of tech available. You will miss Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and while the standard nine-speaker audio system sounds just okay, it is worth upgrading to the Bang & Olufsen unit which comes complete with pop-up dash-mounted tweeters.

Here is a list of the standard features

  • 8-inch touchscreen infotainment screen
  • dual-LCD driver displays
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • AM/FM Stereo
  • 2 12V DC power outlets
  • 2 USB Ports
  • Bluetooth
  • WiFi with phone hub
  • Voice Control
  • Satellite Radio
  • Navigation System
  • 9-speakers with 400W
  • Real-Time Traffic Display
  • Bang & Olufsen sound system (optional)

2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Exterior

Starting from the front, the large black grille and front splitter launch the visual attack with full aggression. The profile does seem to be inspired by the DB11, but several details do give it a really distinct look none other.

The lovers on the side, the flared power bulges on the hood, and the quad exhaust outlets finished in matte black look really alluring and thus announcing Aston martin’s flagship efforts.

Other equally irresistible styling bits are the dark anodized brake calipers, 21-inch forged alloy wheels and LED headlamps with daytime running lights. The Aston also comes with a carbon-fiber roof and titanium sports exhaust which gives the car a way cooler look than its DB11 sibling.

Some of the most noteworthy exterior features of the 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera are:

  • 21" 10 Twin Spoke Gloss Silver Forged wheels with all-season tires
  • Heated and Power adjustable side mirrors with turn signals
  • Auto-Dimming Side mirrors with memory
  • Fully Projector Beam LED Headlamps with DRLs and auto-leveling
  • LED Taillamps
  • Blacked out grille
  • Paint Protection Film
  • Special Color schemes

With the immense amount of customization that can be done over it, the sky is literally the limit. And it is pretty safe to say that no two DBS Superleggera will look alike since every owner will adopt a different outfit for their ride.

When you look at the car it looks bigger than the other with is because of its bolder and wider presence. However, the Aventador S is really big in terms of dimensions, which leads to the question, how manageable is the size of this car in the city traffic. However, Aston has a longer wheelbase than the Lamborghini

2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Safety

There is an absence of driver-assist features in the 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, partly due to the fact that the infotainment system is so outdated. There are no crash safety tests for the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, as this is not a mass-market car.

Though there are some handy features driver-assist features available, it is surprising to see features like blind-spot monitoring and a head-up display given a pass. Other standard safety and driver-assist features of the 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera are as below:

  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • ABS And Driveline Traction Control
  • Electronic Brakeforce Distribution
  • Side Impact Beams
  • Dual Stage Driver And Passenger Seat-Mounted Side Airbags

2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Competition

2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Coupe Vs Ferrari 812 Superfast

While the DBS Superleggera Coupe is all about weaving performance with its luxurious demeanor, the 812 Superfast is all about out-and-out performance, all the time. Be the shrieking naturally aspirated V12 under the hood, or the drop-dead gorgeous looks, it knows how to make a statement. Though it is still a grand tourer, in essence, just a very different and exceptionally athletic approach to it.

While in the comparison of premium materials and extravagant looks, it is anyone’s game, when it comes to performance, the two cars are pretty comparable. Right of the bat, the Ferrari has better performance, but at a considerable price increase. The DBS performs superbly for its price and has enough character to give the 812 Superfast a run for its money.

2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Coupe Vs Lamborghini Aventador SVJ

The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ is a different approach altogether. The choice between the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera and the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ is the choice between luxury at breathtaking speeds or pure unadulterated power.

The performance may not be at par with the others, but the DBS does not fade away either. The son of the mammoth Aston Martin Vulcan, the DBS Superleggera has everything that you will need to stay engrossed for the years to come.

2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Final Verdict

The imperfections in the 2021 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Coupe actually make it all the more desirable, try saying that for your average German sportscar. Yes, the tires are not as grippy, the weight and size of the car can be overwhelming compared to the average grand tourer, a shame considering Superleggera means "super light" in Italian.

However, what strengthens the case for the DBS Superleggera is the fact that it has a screaming V12 putting out 715 hp which rewards you with blinding acceleration. The acoustics of the car is thrilling and the same can be said for its stunning design. This is the GT that is the flagship model coming out of Aston Martin we are talking about after all.
