They say that there is a fine line that separates reality and ecstasy. Well, the Astons simply dance over that fine line. One such Aston Martin is the DB11. The Aston Martin DB11 was introduced to the world in 2016 as a substitute for the DB9. With a debut at the Geneva Motor Show in 2016, the DB11 was the first of its kind in more than one way.

With 4 years of being into existence, the Aston Martin DB11 marches into the year 2021, without any significant changes. However, to add zeal to the otherwise unchanged DB11, Aston Martin has launched a new Shadow Edition for the 2021 DB11. The 2021 Aston Martin DB11 Shadow Edition, just like all the other such "dark" named packages, adds a black-painted grille, 20-inch wheels, and package-specific badging to the DB11, making it look a lot more sinister. The Shadow Edition also lends a dark tone to the 2021 Aston Martin DB11's interior

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Overall Rating

The 2021 Aston Martin DB11 comes in a total of 3 configurations - the DB11 Coupe, the DB11 Convertible, also known as the 2021 Aston Martin DB11 Volante, and the absolutely loco 2021 Aston Martin DB11 AMR. The 2021 Aston Martin DB11 Coupe and the 2021 Aston Martin DB11 Volante get a 4.0L V8, whereas, the 2021 Aston Martin DB11 AMR gets a psychotic 5.2L Twin-Turbo V12, pushing out 640 horses. Such insane power propels the 2021 Aston Martin DB11 from 0-60 MPH in 3.8 seconds, whereas the 2021 Aston Martin DB11 AMR's 0-60 figure comes out to 3.6 seconds.

The prices for the 2021 Aston Martin DB11 Coupe starts from $205,600 and ranges up to $245,900 for the range-topping 2021 Aston Martin DB11 AMR.  The DB11 goes all guns blazing against rivals such as the Bentley Continental GT, Porsche 911 Turbo S, and Ferrari Portofino. With so many seductresses lined up against one another, it becomes a difficult task to choose one. However, lets us help you with that. Scroll down to find out how the Aston Martin DB11 fares against such “avant-garde” rivals.

2021 Aston Martin DB11 Pricing and Features

The 2021 Aston Martin DB11 is bound to be a carry-over model. This implies that the 2021 DB11’s lineup will be the same as the 2020 model, which means the 2021 Aston Martin DB11 will be available in a total of 2 trims- Coupe, and AMR Coupe, which we review separately.

The base DB11 V8 is powered by a V8 engine and comes in as the cheapest of the bunch with an MSRP of $205,600. In the coupe Bodystyle, the most powerful DB11 comes in the form of the 2021 Aston Martin DB11 AMR  that gets a 12-cylinder engine instead of the V8 and sets you back by $245,900.

The Aston Martin DB11 packs anything and everything that you’d expect from a grand-tourer of this segment. The Aston Martin DB11 is the embodiment of true British heritage, extreme opulence, and a versatile driving character.

Though the Aston Martin DB11 is offered as a standalone trim, yet the organization gives you the opportunity to get creative and customize your DB11 according to your taste. Aston Martin offers you the option of personalizing everything in your DB11 - from wheels to leather detailing, seat quilting, seat split, brake calipers, door release, and even the badging. Anything and everything on the DB11 can be customized from the factory.

Apart from these personal touches, the DB11 can also be deployed with 3 packages, namely - Technology Package, Technology Package +, and Comfort Package. The Technology Package adds gizmos such as a touchpad control, auto park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and premium audio. Opt for the Technology Package + and you get everything in the Technology Package, topped with B&O BeoSound Audio. Speaking of the Comfort Package, this bundle adds amenities such as power seat bolsters, heated steering wheel, and heated and ventilated front seats.

2021 Aston Martin DB11 Maintenance, Reliability and Warranty

Getting a car that has been on the favorites list of James Bond in your driveway is for sure an expensive task. However, in case you are the “I live in a penthouse in NY” types, and get an Aston Martin, the expenses do not cease at purchasing it. Just like all the other exotic cars in the world, Aston Martins too, demand a lot of money for the sake of maintenance. So how much will an Aston Martin DB11 cost to be owned and how reliable is it? Let's find out.

Reliability and Ownership Costs

Though there are a number of ways and techniques for deriving the actual reliability and ownership experience of a vehicle, one of the most trusted ways is to call attention to what the JD Power says about it. The JD Power Report gives ratings to vehicles on certain parameters like the Quality, Driving experience, resale value, etc. The ratings are mainly based on reviews by car-owners.

However, speaking of the Aston Martin DB11, unfortunately, JD Power has not yet rated this super set of wheels. Yet, that being said, most of the electronics, infotainment system and the engine itself is sourced from Mercedes so reliability should not be a big issue in the long run.

Although, what’s going to be a pain in the “head” (you know the right word), is the availability of spare parts. Since all of the Astons are super rare, with a number of handmade components in it, getting spares can be troublesome at times.

Speaking of the ownership costs, the Aston Martin DB11, just like all the other exotic vehicles does not come with an easy maintenance schedule. For the regular maintenance service, the DB11 sets you back anywhere by $1,200 to $1,500. However, the amount is much lower than rivals such as the McLaren 720S which costs about $10,000 for just a single maintenance run.

Considering the amount of fondness the British brand has, and the number of bucks you need to get one, the warranty package that comes along with a DB11, cannot be really called as impressive.

The warranty coverage of the 2021 Aston Martin DB11 is extremely average and even misses out on the complimentary maintenance or roadside assistance package. Below is a breakdown of the Aston Martin DB11’s warranty package:

Basic Warranty

3 years/ unlimited miles

Powertrain Warranty

3 years/ unlimited miles

Complimentary maintenance package

The DB11’s maintenance package seems extremely standard, and not at all at par with the heritage of the brand. Rivals brands such as Ferrari and Porsche offer much more elongated and admirable warranty packages.

2021 Aston Martin DB11 Buying Advice

The Aston Martin DB11 packs in more features and amenities than you’ll ever seek or need in a car. However, since it's an Aston we are talking about, the wide umbrella of opulence and convenience does not come as a surprise.

The DB11 is already a very expensive vehicle and comes with more than everything. However, if you’ve got some bucks to spare even after procuring a new DB11, we’d suggest you check out the Comfort Package.

Is buying a used Aston Martin DB11 a good idea?

Getting a growling V8 engine and that too at a fraction of the original price may seem an alluring deal, and it definitely is. Well, who doesn’t want to flex an Aston Martin parked in their driveway? However, though you may get a used Aston Martin DB11 at a fraction of the price, maintaining it is nothing less than getting a white elephant for a pet. Moreover, using an Aston as a daily driver is not the most sensible of the choices.

However, in case your love for British livery cannot be knocked out by these reality checks, we’d suggest you go for a 2017-18 model of the DB11. The reason being, Aston Martins suffer from some of the worst cases of initial depreciation. This means that when you find a deal on a used DB11 that was registered around the year 2017-18, the car would’ve lost more than 40% of its value. Moreover, since it's an Aston in the question, chances are that it’d have not been used as a daily driver, thus would be in pretty good condition.

2021 Aston Martin DB11 Engine and Performance

As we discussed above, the Aston Martin DB11 marches into the year 2021, without any changes. This implies that the 2021 Aston Martin DB11 will get a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 engine underneath its hood that’s good for 503 hp and a peak torque of 513 lb.-ft. that kicks in at 2000 rpm.

The Aston Martin DB11 Coupe is also available in an AMR (Aston Martin Racing) variant. The DB11 AMR swaps the V8 with a 5.2L V12 engine that belts out a bonkers 630 horsepower and a peak torque of 516 lb. ft.

2021 Aston Martin DB11 coupe has 4L engine

Whether you go for the standard DB11 Coupe with the V8 engine, or the steroid injected DB11 AMR, what you’ll find consummating the transmission tasks in an 8-speed automatic transmission. The transmission setup of the DB11 routes all the force to the rear wheels of the coupe. Just to be clear, there is no AWD option on the DB11.

The transmission setup on the Aston Martin DB11 feels precise and smooth. However, it does feel a bit keener on executing downshifts. Yet, once you pick up the pace and settle on a particular rev-range, it’s all jubilation.

The 2021 Aston Martin DB11's power figures are insane, but when put against its rivals, the DB11 is the last one in terms of raw performance prowess. The 2021 Ferrari Portofino is the most powerful sports car in this segment with more than 590 hp. The 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S with its smaller engine carries a pretty big stick. Surprisingly, the 2021 Bentley Continental GT is also quite powerful, considering its lineage coming from evolved saloon carriages.

2021 Aston Martin DB11 Acceleration And Braking Performance

The Aston Martin is one hell of a sprinter, and that feat is quite evident from the fact that it locks its horns with contenders such as the Ferrari Portofino and the Porsche 911 Turbo S.

The 2021 Aston Martin DB11 can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds and can clock the quarter of a mile lap in 11.7 seconds, at a speed of 125 mph. Just for the record, the Aston Martin DB11 AMR can sprint from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds

2021 Aston Martin DB11 Coupe accelerate 0-60 mph in 3.8 sec

The Aston Martin DB11 is an absolute ripper, that is always on its toes to propel and catapult itself. Courtesy of spot-on power delivery that makes the DB11 feel eager to launch while rewarding your eardrums with an ultra-seductive symphony from the V8 mill.

2021 Aston Martin DB11 Coupe brake rotor

Speaking of the braking arrangement, the Aston Martin DB11 Coupe gets 15.8-inch discs at the front and 14.2 inch ventilated discs at the rear. This setup can make the DB11 decelerate from 60-0 mph in a distance of just 105 feet. The braking setup always inspires confidence, and the presence of ABS and emergency brake assist further elevates your sense of conviction.

Though the DB11’s accelerating prowess can make your adrenaline levels shoot through the roof, it still is the slowest vehicle in the segment. The Porsche 911 Turbo S takes the throne here with a 0-60 mph time of 2.8 seconds, followed by the acceleration figures of the 2021 Ferrari Portofino. The reason behind the subtle nature of the DB11 is its grand-touring DNA, that’s oriented to munch miles on the freeways rather than create havoc on the racetrack.

The 2021 Aston Martin DB11 gets everything the same as the 2020 model, and this applies to the coupe’s fuel efficiency as well. The 2021 Aston Martin DB11 returns city/highway/combined mpg figures of 18/24/20. Considering its big and brawny V8 mill and handsome power, the DB11 may get considered as a gas-guzzler but breaking all misconceptions, this Aston emerges as one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles in the segment. The only vehicle to surpass the DB11 in terms of fuel efficiency is the 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S which returns a combined mpg of 21. The Turbo S leads the pack in this comparison, owing to its lighter and smaller body.

2021 Aston Martin DB11 Interior

Open the wide and heavy door of the DB11 and you’ll be greeted by a cabin that infuses some of the best materials and ergonomics ever found in the grand-tourer history. The dash of the DB11 looks much more modern and appealing than other Astons.

Speaking of the quality, well the 2021 Aston Martin DB11’s cabin pays homage to authentic British heritage with tons of soft-touch leather, appointed on most of the surfaces, and with contrast stitching further multiplying the charm. Apart from leather, there is a lot of wood and carbon fiber inserts that break the monotony.

Speaking of space on offer, the front seats of the Aston Martin DB11 are the paradigm of luxury, with more than ample space available in all directions. The seats are extremely comfortable and aptly cushioned to make you go miles without the slightest of fatigue.

The front seats are very well bolstered to hold you in place as you go attacking some corners. The front seats also get multiple electronic adjustments, in order to help you find your ideal driving position. However, the 2 rear seats that the DB11 has are tighter than the isolation wards at Pelican Bay State Prison, and we suggest you better leave them for children or additional luggage only.

How’s the 2021 Aston Martin DB11’s infotainment system?

In case you’ve been in an old Mercedes-Benz S-Class and had some encounters with its infotainment system, then the infotainment panel on the Aston Martin DB11 will seem pretty familiar to you.

2021 Aston Martin DB11 Coupe infotainment screen

The Aston Martin DB11 gets a revamped version of the infotainment system found on the older models of Mercedes. There is a reason why Astons find their name on the favorite’s list of Bond, James Bond. One look at the DB11 and you’ll understand what we are talking about. The Aston Martin DB11 draws major inspiration from the ongoing DB9 with similar design cues. However, the design language of the DB11 is much more chiseled and sharp than the DB9.

 2021 Aston Martin DB11 Coupe

The Aston Martin DB11 is a total stunner with a wide and low stance. The front fascia of the DB11 is dominated by a wide grille that’s placed lower on the hood. What completes the front look of the DB11 is a set of LED headlights, and wide air intakes. The hood of the DB11 is pulled forward with defined creases increasing the masculine appeal of the coupe.

2021 Aston Martin DB11 Safety

When you are in charge of providing an adrenaline surge to your occupants, you also become responsible for ensuring that this thirst for performance does not prove fatal for anyone. Speaking of crash tests, pieces of luxury and art like the Aston Martin DB11 seldom see the face of IIHS and NHTSA, and so, we don’t see those tests happening for the 2021 model year as well.

Folks at Aston Martin have kept this fact in check and have loaded the DB11 with a decent suite of safety features. However, driver-assist highlights such as blind-spot monitoring and auto parking are offered as optional.

Some of the most eminent standard safety features of the Aston Martin DB11 includes:

  • 4-wheel ABS
  • Cornering lights
  • Stability control
  • Front and rear ventilated disc brakes
  • Traction control
  • Front head airbags
  • Dual front side-mounted airbags
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Auto parking

  • Universal remote transmitter
  • Seatbelt pretensioners
  • Emergency braking assist

Aston Martin DB11 Vs. Bentley Continental GT

The Bentley Continental GT shares its grand touring DNA with the Aston Martin DB11. Both of these exotics have been built with the purpose of munching miles with pace while providing the ultimate comfort to its occupants.

Bentley Continental GT

The Bentley Continental GT is priced similarly to the DB11 but happens to be more powerful than the Aston. Apart from this, the Continental is just as good as the Aston in terms of fuel economy and has the best-in-class cargo area as well.

Aston Martin DB11 Vs. Porsche 911 Turbo S

The Porsche 911 Turbo S is one of the most economical (comparatively) vehicles in the segment, and yet one of the most powerful contenders with 580 ponies tucked underneath its hood.

Porsche (11 Turbo S

However, what differentiates the Aston Martin DB11 and the Porsche 911 Turbo S is the character of these two cars. While the DB11 belongs out on the freeways, the 911 Turbo S is built to wreak havoc on tracks. Thus it does not come as a surprise that the Porsche is the fastest car in the segment.

Aston Martin DB11 Vs. Ferrari Portofino

Though all the cars mentioned here will get you a ton of attention every time you pull up in one of these, yet the one that’s going to attract the most attention is the Ferrari Portofino.

Ferrari Portofino

The Ferrari Portofino is the most expensive offering in the segment. While the Bentley and the Aston are typical grand tourers, and the Porsche is a potent track weapon, the Portofino combines the best of both worlds and presents it in an extremely seductive bundle. The Ferrari Portofino is the most powerful car here, and also the best handler in this lot.

2021 Aston Martin DB11 Final Verdict

When it comes down to getting a car of this segment, it's not the value for money or practicality aspect that matters. Instead, it becomes a matter of the heart. It becomes a matter of the call you get from within you. It becomes the matter of your soul that simply gets hooked on to one of these exotic beauties.

The Aston Martin DB11 is a capable grand-tourer that envelops you in ultimate luxury and packs in enough grunt to make the toughest of sports cars hide their face in shame. From the rational point of view, we’d say that there are a lot of cars that offer a lot more in the same prices, yet from the point of view we share with the aficionados reading this, we’d say that if it's this Aston that you are bowled over, you should definitely go and grab one. Well, if you can.
