Alfa Romeo is not new to the world of automobiles. An Italian carmaker that has established itself as one of the all-time greats has now ventured into the mass-market SUV fiesta. Their answer to many questions rational and irrational is the Stelvio. Alfa being what they are, decided to shake hands with Ferrari and get a 505-horsepower V6 into the rather utilitarian Stelvio. The result is the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio. A robust build from an otherwise badly reputed company, the Stelvio QV gets a fancier interior along with a new infotainment unit for the 2021 model year. Everything remains the same and frankly if it ain’t broke why fix it?

The 2021 Stelvio Quadrifoglio is not what you call a slouch. An $80,600 proposition, the Stelvio QV is all about Italian excellence in the world of automobiles. With competition diving in from every corner, we have the Jaguar F-Pace SVR representing the British while BMW X6 M50i goes on to portray what the Germans can and the all-American Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT comes in waving at the Europeans. Does the 2021 Stelvio QV have what it takes to go ahead and take on the more established players? Read on to find out.

2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV Pricing and Features

7.0/10

Unlike most mundane cars, the Stelvio in its performance guise is offered in one trim- Quadrifoglio. With a monstrously powerful engine under the hood, the Stelvio is sure to keep your sense alive. Moreover, the QV badge brings in significant differences over the normal Stelvio with a lot of them being structural.

If you have spent the near $90k asking price, then the kit on offer can be disappointing to some extent, while Mercedes and BMW are well ahead in terms of gadgetry, Alfa is a step or two behind, to say the least. That said, Alfa Romeo offers a lot of packages as add-ons to the Stelvio. Some of these packages are Nero Edizione, Driver Assistance Package, Comfort, and Convenience Package.

2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV Maintenance, Reliability and Warranty

Alfas of the past have been accounted for questionable reliability. However, things have changed and Alfa Romeo as a brand is back at full pace. The Stelvio has seen a lot of technological advancements and has been quite solid in terms of reliability. With hundreds of Stelvio QVs on the road each year, it’s no surprise the midsize SUV is a hit amongst the performance SUV market.

Reliability and ownership costs

When it comes to vehicle ownership, reliability plays an important role. The Stelvio QV is one of the highest-rated SUVs in the Alfa Romeo when it comes to reliability. According to JD Power, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio earns 74, out of 100 points, which is respectable for a performance SUV. Another particularly interesting trivia is that the Stelvio has not been accounted for in any recalls by Alfa Romeo. This is a statistic from the NHTSA and we are pleased to hear modern-day Alfas refraining from recalls thanks to improved manufacturing techniques and quality control.

Ownership costs for the Stelvio total to around $30,000. While we do not have the true cost to own, the approximation includes everything from repairs, taxes, fees, and even fuel costs. The cost of ownership might seem a little bit over the top but isn't anything too steep given the Stelvio Quadrifoglio is a premium high-performance SUV.

Warranty

In the event of something unfortunate, before you start cursing your luck, bear in mind that Alfa Romeo offers a slew of warranty packages for the Stelvio QV.

Criteria

Period

Limited warranty

4 years/ 50,000 miles; whichever is earlier

Powertrain warranty

4 years/ 50,000 miles; whichever is earlier

24-hour roadside assistance

1 years/10,000 miles; whichever is earlier

It should also be noted that the Alfas are pretty reliable these days given they have improved a lot of their quality control and manufacturing standards.

Miles per dollar

Since we do not have a complete idea of what the entire cost of ownership would be, we are unable to calculate the MPD ratio. The said ratio is achieved by factoring the average number of miles driven in a year to ownership costs like financing, insurance, fuel costs and service/ maintenance costs.

2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV Buying Advice

Since there is not much to choose from in terms of options, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio can prove to be a good proposition. On a side note, we’ll advise you in getting the convenience package as an add-on.

How about a used Stelvio Quadrifoglio?

Part of the reason for owning a used sports car is because they depreciate heavily. Unless they are limited in numbers, they lose a ton of money each year. Of course, if you are the sort of person who can afford such a fall then you wouldn’t be looking for a used sports car and rather be buying a new one. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio is no exception to this notion, it depreciates heavily as well.

To put that into perspective, our inventory of used Stelvio Quadrifoglios shows us a 2018 model advertised for around $58,000 which is a bargain given that these cars are built with intent and wouldn’t breakdown as mundane cars would.

2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV Engine and Performance

9.0/10

One of the highlight features of the Stelvio QV is the engine it has. Powered by a Ferrari based 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6, the Stelvio shows no signs of stopping in terms of raw performance. Power figures stand at a robust 505 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque.

2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV has 2.9L Premium V6 engine

Given the QV badge instills everything that Alfa stands for, the Stelvio could just be the perfect SUV.

In terms of numbers, the Jaguar has everyone else on the shoulders. With 550 hp from the supercharged V8, the aural pleasure on offer is simply second to none. The Jeep SRT too boasts a supercharged V8 but makes do with 475 hp. Funnily enough, the 505 hp Stelvio is the least powerful SUV here.

2021 Stelvio Quadrifoglio Acceleration And Braking Performance

The Ferrari sourced 2.9-liter twin-turbo sends most of its power to the rear two wheels via a trick AWD system while the eight-speed automatic shifts quickly to ensure power is plenty and constant throughout.

The Stelvio is the quickest to stop from 60 mph as well. Given that the Stelvio Quadrifoglio is the lightest of the bunch and comes with optional carbon-ceramic rotors, it’s no surprise the Italian managed to stop sooner. While the rest of the bunch do offer impressive performance, the Jaguar seems to edge overall but the Alfa.

2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV Fuel Economy

7.0/10

If you elected to buy a 505 hp performance SUV, chances are fuel efficiency is the least of your concerns. That said for the frugal consumers out there, Alfa managed to squeeze decent efficiency out of the Stelvio QV. The turbocharging has helped cut down gas guzzling to an extent where the QV manages to return 19 mpg combined. Respectable figures for an SUV of such caliber.

The 16.9-gallon fuel tank is not the largest but the overall range is quite compelling and competitive in this league of thoroughbreds. BMW offers respectable numbers while the Jeep gets the capacious fuel tank here. All is not lost for the Jag though as the SVR manages to return an equally compelling figure as the BMW X6.

2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV Interior

8.0/10

Inside the 2021 Guilia Quadrifoglio, a set of minimal yet noticeable changes have taken place. For starters, the interior is riddles with higher-quality materials, bigger cupholders and a new smartphone storage area with wireless charging as part of the redesigned center console, which also features an Italian flag at the base of the gear selector.

Alongside this, the steering wheel gets a gentle makeover along with new perforated upholstery offered with the option of green or red seatbelts over the standard black items.

The rest of the layout seems business as usual with high-quality materials flanking all that you touch and feel. In terms of interiors, we have to give it to BMW for the execution and placement of controls making it ergonomic and easily accessible, regardless of your stature. Additionally, the Jaguar has upped their interior game with a curved display and revised cabin controls. Out of the bunch, Jeep has the worst interiors, relatively though.

How’s the 2021 Stelvio Quadrifoglio’s infotainment system?

Inside, the headline act is the 8.8-inch central display that is now a touchscreen, joining the carryover rotary-dial controller as a secondary input method for the Giulia QV’s overhauled multimedia system. The set-up has a faster processor, features sharper graphics and has driver-configurable interactive widgets.

The Giulia Quadrifoglio’s version also gets performance data inbuilt with G-force meters, oil temperatures, various pressure settings among a lot of other snazzy stuff.

2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV Exterior

9.0/10

Nothing beats Italians when it comes to crafting a beautiful exterior. The sculpture in question is unmatched in the automotive fraternity. The Stelvio QV stays true to its Alfa roots and feels more like a jacked-up Guilia. Given Guilia too has a certain flair to what it portrays in terms of visual appeal.

2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV

The Stelvio QV has muscular haunches that fit the massive 20-inch rims flushed, while the slightly tapering roofline gives a sporty yet utilitarian look to what is otherwise a boring silhouette for an automobile.

Upfront, the traditional tri-lobed grille and curves look a lot more in place as the Stelvio Quadrifoglio is bigger than the Guilia. The signature squinting headlights surrounds the shield grille and run deep into the flared fenders. As a result, the side profile of this Alfa Romeo looks more muscular than sporty. The Quadrifoglio four-leaf clover motif above the front wheel arches sets this Stelvio apart from the rest of the lineup. Even Jaguar managed to pull off a fantastic job with designing the F-Pace SVR and boy does it look the part. The BMW X6 being the first to introduce the concept of an SUV coupe looks rather upmarket and ready for business.

2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV Safety

8.0/10

The 2021 Giulia Quadrifoglio’s active safety features now cover autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, active blind-spot monitoring, driver attention alert, highway and traffic-jam assist, and traffic sign recognition. As such, it is now recognized as a Level 2 autonomous vehicle. To make sure that all the occupants aboard the Stelvio Quadrifoglio are safe and secure in the event of something unfortunate, Alfa Romeo has equipped it with the following safety features:

  • Premium alarm system
  • Full-speed forward collision warning plus
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane departure warning
  • Airbags
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Cross-path detection

2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV Competition

2021 Stelvio Quadrifoglio Vs BMW X6 M50i

Alfa is all about passion and Italian flair while the BMW X6 M50i is about industrial tech and German ingenuity. While both of them appeal to a different set of buyers, from a rational standpoint, it’s better to go for the BMW.

BMW X6 M50i

Given the Germans have made sure the interiors (where you spend 90% of your time) are exquisite, while the Stelvio’s is by no means cheap, it’s certainly a notch below what the BMW X6 has to offer.

2021 Stelvio Quadrifoglio Vs Jaguar F-Pace SVR

British ingenuity is what led to the Jaguar F-Pace SVR. While most manufacturers are busy with emissions and downsizing, Jaguar brings a 5.0-liter supercharged engine. The aural pleasures alone would entice the 9-year old inside you.

Jaguar F-Pace SVR

The Stelvio is smaller in dimensions and is largely dwarfed by the enormity of that engine alone. That aside, if you’re in the market for an agile crossover, make no mistake the Alfa Stelvio QV is the better choice.

2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV Final Verdict

If you’re spending close to $90K on an excuse for absurdity, it’s better to get it done on something that oozes passion and flair. While most Italians are flamboyant in what they portray, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio exhibits a level of extravagance that appeals to a select few. If you’re among the lucky few, go ahead and reward yourself with a 505 horsepower, Italian thoroughbred.
